It's a set of smartphone-like APIs over the top of Samsung's proprietary OS. And it includes the TouchWiz UI front end that gets ported to most Samsung phones.
windows Mobile 7 Series looks sick, what an awesome looking interface. They made the right decision by ditching legacy, the world is shifting to user friendliness. The new Symbian is not as impressive
That guy with the E71 should have been given the E63 instead. It doesnt have built in GPS, but it does have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a better keypad.
@Lvaneeda > Totally agree. Just bought an E63 for a friend. A little chunkier but the keyboard is very nice, and as you say, has the standard 3.5 mm jack. Screen is brighter too.
Still a bad a camera. As does the 5800. But I agree with you all things considered its better than the E71. Then again the E72 is kinda of the best of both. I've not seen what that camera is like though.
Mikes tragic story of his 5800 brought a tear to my eye, and the fact he was on a beach and I aint. His user opinion of the E71 was well put across too.
Your OS round up sort of confirms for me why a lot of ppl still shun the Smartphone world, just too dam complex still with too many competing platforms and variants of those platforms available. All to0 much for many non geeks!
Sorry if I'm a little bit "off-topic" here but I was considering which Xenon phone to buy, and since we both share the love for proper flash I thought I'd ask you ;) The n82 is hard to come by these days (unless you buy it used) but the SE C901 comes in at a nice price. Any thoughts on this device Steve? Thanks for a great show by the way.
what about the n86? its got a powerful flash, and having it as my personal phone, photo quality in the dark easily comes close to my stand alone camera. The flash can also be used for video recording which the n82 doesnt have.
*cough* decent .. well I remain happy with my Satio .. if you want Xenon and a decent camera its hard to touch. They released it with immature firmware but that has been largely addressed.
My dad just asked me What he should get. The phones he can choose from is: HTC Hero, HTC HD2 and Iphone 3G, wich do you think is best? I would take the Hero to get Android, but maybe HD2 is better dispite wondows mobile, since it's newer and has a bigger screen
im assuming that the new symbian OS will be available on existing handsets such as an update, and not just new handsets? it just makes the n97 mini an even greater temptation to me. :D
Great show again Steve! Only one little mistake, whan your talking about Windows Mobile: you show a video of an Android phone (HTC Hero) 06:09 > 06:15. No mention of the Samsung i8520 Beam? Super AMOLED looks very impressive!
Oops yes. I wanted to show the Sense UI - but you're right, it's called TouchFLO 3D on the Windows Mobile devices. Umm... I'd better replace those MP4s then. I'll annotate the YouTube version
HTC made the right choice, Sense is a much better name, and works well with both Android and WM 6.X... I am looking forward to tying out Super AMOLED myself. Better in direct sunlight than LCD and brighter than traditional AMOLED pones we have seen. Seems like a win win situation!
liked it a lot... :-)

I think the user videos make your show very well rounded. Keep contributing everyone!

Sadly, there's simply nothing decent with Xenon flash in the smartphone world. Personally, I'd still go for a second hand N82....

Yes, the N86 is good - but it still can't compete with Xenon down the pub!

Well, even with latest firmware, the Xenon flash on my Satio is very poor. Miles behind the flash on the Nokia N82.

Get Google Nexus One or wait for HTC Desire.
stevelitchfield 1 year ago
Yes, that would've been great, but he gets one of the three from work, so he can't choose anyone else unfortunatley.

Tough choice. iPhone 3G then.

No, Symbian^3 will need new hardware. Though maybe some bits will get back-ported etc.
