He's the one that has the back story that explains why he fights crime: His parents were murdered right before his eyes when he was a young child, and if you go by the trilogy starring Christian Bale, a lot of other stuff happened too, including something involving the girl he loved. >_>;

In comparison, Marvel comics has Ironman, though he lets the public know who he is, unlike Bats where only viewers know.

@htgnef The thing about their situation is even if they had dodged one or even all of the balls, the Joker and the Meta Breed still had a dozen ways they could have killed them. Batman and Robin probably could have escaped though, but they wouldn't have wanted to cut it too close.

@DeeTheBomb Most of that stuff he is moving is made of probably made of concrete, and concrete is poured around metal bars to make it stronger. The animators probably got lazy and didn't draw the metal bars.

@DeeTheBomb He wasn't trying to actually shock the ground. The force of a lightning bolt is strong enough to pierce the earth itself depending upon its overall strength. All he had to do is give a strong enough shock to move the rubble from his way, without causing more of the bridge to fall on top of him. When you take an Earth Science class and a Bio class this stuff is easy to figure out but in most cases, electricity can't shock the ground but the force can "damage" it and "move" it
