I'm sorry Adam, you sounded awesome, but you didn't sound Seymour. And this is like the fourth video I've seen with you wearing an ugly shirt. XD I loved Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, but her voice is too weak here.
this is Little Shop of Horrors not Phantom of the Opera, they're trying too hard. mostly he's trying too hard, Mandy Moore's good for Audrey's part. it's a comedy song, it doesn't need to sound serious, it should be lighter and warmer. but that's just my opinion.
Her voice may not have worked for this song at all but you can't deny she sang perfectly in Tangled. It's like with all singers, they can't be perfect for every style, range or 'sound' (which in this one is really belty) but when they're in their 'zone' they can be magic.
Maybe her voice isnt suited to this kind of setting. Or she was just having a ' bad day at work '. At least when I have a 'bad day at work', only a few know. If Mandy has a 'bad day at work', thousands know it. =( Mandy is a class act though. =)
Aw, Mandy... her voice cracked a little bit... and her voice isn't quite... 'raw' enough for this song. It's too soft, and she sang through her head/nose and not with her diaphragm. I would've like to see her break free singing with Adam. (Who was fantastic. <3)
But, the performance/tuning and things like that were fine. ^^
In the nicest way. This sucked. Sorry but their voices just don't fit the part. I agree that Ellen and Rick should have been the ones singing right then. I just don't think that either of the two are good
I think she is the most ill-talented "famous" singer ( I can never call her a vocalist, she doesn't deserve that title) I have ever heard. She needs to hide in a cave.
and maybe it's because the only thing I've heard Mandy Moore in was Tangled, but I just think her voice is more suited to movies. Shes still really good though!
My understanding was that she was sick on the night of this performance. She has a long history of strong performances both live and recorded, and I think that accusing this performance of being 'weak' is unfair as she is clearly not in top form due to circumstances out of her control.
@teewoods He's playing SEYMOUR. And he's singing to his LOVE, trying to COMFORT her. Of course he's going to sing softly. Even then, his voice isn't that weak at all. Adam Pascal forever. <3
Adam should have been paired up with a much more powerful singer. Mandy ruined this song and she makes the character of Audrey seem weaker than she really is with her thin, bland voice. Adam can belt and probably wanted to in this song, but unfortunately he would've blown Mandy off the stage.
Mandy...there is a reason that you should not do Broadway. Being on the pop charts is much more different than doing a song that is catered more for the Great White MIle. Ellen Greene does a much more powerful rendition in the original and sounds more like she is putting effort into the song rather than a half baked cover of such a great musical moment.
I think Mandy does have Broadway potential (just watch Tangled... and the oscar performance of "I see the light") however, either she didn't get into character or this song is definitely not for her.
This song is for a lovely awkward couple who've just found each other in a sea of people who don't understand them. Not a pretty boy and the prom queen. It's so distasteful. This is so off key in so many ways. ELLEN GREENE AND RICK MORANIS FOR EVER!!!!!
I love Mandy in this song...she doesn't have the Audrey personality, but she sounds really pretty in this song....or at least she does in my opinion (:
This song is about the transformation of Audrey from a meek little follower blossoming into a strong woman through Seymour's love. Though Mandy has a pleasant voice, the transformation isn't here in this song. She finishes the song the same way she starts it and that's not the "story" of this song.
I'm sorry but Mandy Moore's voice isn't strong enough to sing this song... I like Mandy, but she is struggling through the whole song. She's no Ellen Greene
Mandy Moore is amazing. However, this song does not fit her vocal style. This is meant to be belted. She's doing this all in head voice. I'm not hating, like I stated above she is amazing, it's just this isn't her song.
The reason why the song doesn't work is because Mandy Moore failed to put herself into the character. When Ellen Greene sung this song she became Audrey and you could feel her whole entire soul in the song. Mandy is very capable of doing this song she just didn't connect the way Ellen did.
It's out of her range, if you listen to the "Adelaide's Lament" from the same show, she does great--they picked this duet for her, it's not her fault that it's too high. If you listen to Adam's part you can tell they couldn't have keyed it lower or he would be singing like Barry White.
I don't understand haters. She put herself out there and took on something challenging. I don't see "BritKnee" or "Jessica" or whoever else doing that.
@agramsci actually, I don't think it's out of her range at all, judging by her other performances; I think she might have just strained her voice a bit prior to this performance and the song thus proved to be a bit challenging that night. I do agree that this was an off night for her, but her voice still sounds so beautiful, that pure quality in it never goes away. I agree, her performance of "Adelaide's Lament" is stunning.
Mandy has a really gentle voice in this, she's not really belting it out with the soul it really needs. Its pretty good, but kinda missing something. This song is really difficult to sing. You need range, power, and a lot of soul.
Carrie Underwood sings this amazingly in her version with Patrick Wilson. If her and Adam could do a version of this it would incredible, he's fantastic here, Mandy is just so underwhelming...
Carrie Underwood is fantastic in her version with Patrick Wilson, if you could mix her and Adam it would be awesome. Mandy is just so underwhelming...
Love Adam and Mandy but this was not a good combo... Adam definitely needs to stick to RENT and Mandy needs more umph, if you know what I mean. her voice is too delicate for Audrey. Great video just not a good combo between Adam and Mandy...
Eww. They butchered this song. I mean, it sounds catchy (especially if you've never heard the original one), but they just take away all the meaning from it. This version has nothing of the original atmosphere.
I don't understand this at all. I LOVE Adam Pascal, I LOVE Mandy Moore, and I LOVE Little Shop - but this is just - wrong! Not one part of this makes sense to me.
shes singing in falsetto thats why shes not projecting .. i dont know why she would do that she can belt ive heard her she def didnt do this song justice
@hillaryrdais47 are you deaf? watch it again. she belts way more than mandy moore. she starts out quiet but "suddenly" she starts belting. I could have done better in my falsetto and Im a bass.
i dont think the problem is that she cant belt. this song can sound great in head voice. she just isnt projecting and she isnt getting the notes cleanly and well. her voice is fine but she should have chosen a song better for her type of singing
Adam pascal is great but her voice here is an insult to this song. you don't hold back when your in love and she definitely held back....so disappointed with her vocals
She really cannot sing; not this song anyway. Makes me appreciate Ellen Greene; and why is the damned song sped up, it's supposed to be a moving love song.
Yeah, I think the reason her voice is breaking in the upper-mid range is that she doesn't have the belt to sustain it. Plus, the work needed for this song is far beyond what most expect. Pascal was capable of giving it some flair, but Moore was so terribly wrong for this. It's just not her vocal style.
The colour and texture of Greene's voice is rare, which lends to the power of the original performance. They needed to alter it here entirely to fit Moore's voice -- or just forgo the song.
we have to understand that mandy moore wasn't on broadway. she doesn't know how to fluctuate her voice to add the musical theater appeal. but in general it was pretty good. she could've been more passionate, but it was overall good
This is kinda self-indulgent. They're performing like they just want to hear themselves sing. And soo white-washed compared to the original. No impact at all.
Bagurk! Adam Pascal's outfit is the silliest arrangement of fabric I have EVER seen. And that precious pop princess just ain't got the pipes. Who's grand idea was this?
I've commented on this before, but got to again.. ADAM is sooo adorable here.. Mandy just doesn't have a strong enough voice for Broadway (IMO). But I would KILL several times over to have this man sing to me and kiss my hand!!
Mandy isn't TERRIBLE, she is alright. She has a different type of voice. This is broadway, not the pop that she is used to. She isn't confident enough for this song. She is holding back.
@GonnaBeOnBroadway Yeah. She needs to go nuts and let out that inner lost but found woman. Lol. I suppose thats a bad way to put it but i know what you mean
This is mildly disappointing to me. I think Mandy Moore is talented, and I thought she was more talented than this. I think maybe she was sick or something, because she sounded really weird...and I know you guys say she's not auto tuned, etc, etc. But it still sounded like she was holding back. I would never hold back if I got to sing with Adam Pascal. I would sing my little heart out.
Adam Pascal singing this song with Mandy Moore is like Meryl Streep starring in a movie with Hillary Duff. He was amazing and she is mediocre at best.
I love this duo and their performance BUT the only thing I can say is off is that Mandy's voice doesn't sound powerful. She's supposed to really BELT OUT some of those lines and she doesn't here.
I'm sorry Adam, you sounded awesome, but you didn't sound Seymour. And this is like the fourth video I've seen with you wearing an ugly shirt. XD I loved Mandy Moore as Rapunzel, but her voice is too weak here.

Mandy Moore.... Interesting...... I wanted adam to curb stomp her.. I think he wanted to.

Adam = brilliant.
minubroadwaystarz 1 year ago
Mandy sounds quite weak. How could they let her perform this song?!
Adam will always be brilliant. <3
But, the two of them seeing this song seems like a strange decision.

Oh. My.GOD!!! I feel like I'm going to melt because of Adams voice!!!

Sweet girl, but this song is too big for her. Sorry. Jessica Simpson would have been a better choice (when she could actually sing).

Mandy, sweetie, face it...
you suck.

...Strange choices for this song...I mean they did it well, just...wtf haha

Adam Pascal has a great voice and one that lends well to the song...but its kinda hard to invision him as a nerd....and Mandy is well...decent.
KWDOLFAN2010 1 year ago
Mandy isn't TERRIBLE, she is alright. She has a different type of voice. This is broadway, not the pop that she is used to. She isn't confident enough for this song. She is holding back.
GonnaBeOnBroadway 1 year ago
@GonnaBeOnBroadway Yeah. She needs to go nuts and let out that inner lost but found woman. Lol. I suppose thats a bad way to put it but i know what you mean
Moontheblueneko 1 year ago
she sounds terrible... sweet girl but can not sing a song like this. Adam is brilliant.
idance2b 1 year ago
As a singer, Adam rocked it. As Seymour, he's just too cool...

Adam, in my opinion, was the only good one in this clip. Mandy just didn't pull it off.

Mandy Moore sounded awful!

...It sounds like the Mic is quiet to me....for Mandy anyway,

This is a song that needs a distinct, strong, loud female voice. Nothing against Mandy at all but her voice was not meant for this song
roxy1porche2bandit3 1 year ago
I agree. I actually really like Mandy, but this song is not right for her. Slightly out of her range.

I was disapointed by Mandy's singing. And usually im a fan.

@dolphingal1979 she couldn't keep up with Adam!

Mandy seems like a nice girl but she is no Ellen Greene!
draymond1024 1 year ago
She's so meek, just plain can't compete in power at all. Too bad.
ChaosInSilence 1 year ago
This is mildly disappointing to me. I think Mandy Moore is talented, and I thought she was more talented than this. I think maybe she was sick or something, because she sounded really weird...and I know you guys say she's not auto tuned, etc, etc. But it still sounded like she was holding back. I would never hold back if I got to sing with Adam Pascal. I would sing my little heart out.
LaBelleMensonge 1 year ago
Its disappointing...because she's better than this.
Its almost like she was holding back!

Adam Pascal singing this song with Mandy Moore is like Meryl Streep starring in a movie with Hillary Duff. He was amazing and she is mediocre at best.
mikes1sn 1 year ago
@mikes1sn That was a PERFECT analogy.
broadwayxlover4 1 year ago
Sadly, her voice just isn't powerful enough.
RFouts0 1 year ago
I love this duo and their performance BUT the only thing I can say is off is that Mandy's voice doesn't sound powerful. She's supposed to really BELT OUT some of those lines and she doesn't here.
JadedGemy 1 year ago
Thats her real voice. Not auto tuned.
