I love this. There's something funny about it, and to me Jason looks like he's enjoying himself. Nice jacket and shirt and he looks quite handsome here. Fucking excellent tune, even though it's the original by the sound of it. Never knew they did a TOTP performance, but I'm amused they did. First class.
This IS awful. Sad IMO. And believe you me, Jason WANTS to be there. He is a man capable of choices manager hangin over him or not... hey, it is a business. and I think Jason would like to live comfortably. I do... Its funny to watch the bands that dont even try to look like they're lip syncing. The Specials is one that pops in my head as fun, "Rudy" I think. If I wasn't a fan and saw this Im not sure Id buy the record.
My god, this is truely awful! Anyone who doubts, on the basis of this track, how good Spiritualized can be, I'd really recommend you listen to their first album, "Laser Guided Melodies", which is a sublime classic.
Is it just me or is the audio in this video, with the exception of the commentary at the beginning, from the studio version? I understand that sometimes singers mime to a pre-recorded track, but the music sounds identical too.
yeah thats standard for top of the pops. some bands play jokes with that, like members switch up who dont even sing the song. i think oasis did that or something
a bit unfair on steve wright, he's good on totp2 and nothing he said here was critical. and totp2 have loads of stuff to choose from and they picked this for a reason.
and I say that critically because Spiritualized are generally so amazing live...they are the antithesis of this kind of topofthepops canned stuff...strange
This is where I first heard about Spiritualized. I spent the next two weeks wondering who they were, humming the chorus to myself. I saw the repeat on Dave and finally found out who they were.
hello. this must i've been so bizarre for a spaceman to get used to, i.e the confines of a totp studio, not playing live. i haven't got the technolgy but if youor anyone who has got the primal sream added hope dvd, please put 'SMILES' on or any version of smiles or any glastonbury performances - I will love u forever

Steve Wright is a douche and the smart arse comments are even worse.
Hooray for Spiritualized.

this is synced...that sucks major...especially to go through having the ensemble of musicians to sit and pretend that they're playing it.
FAIL

The bloke introducing this is Steve wright - a washed-up DJ who everyone in Britain hates.
He also writes the unfunny captions.
Tcoldsteel 2 years ago 5
@Tcoldsteel ...he has the same type of humour/style as Chris Tarrant; assumes some kinda bland authority and refers to himself as 'We'

Is it live ?

No. Isn't top of the pops notorious for its synced 'performances'? Plus it is sonically identical to the single version.
