Actually pentatonic scales is not "101." Beginning guitar is the Chromatic scale from C to C over the C chord (12 notes) and C-F-G7 chords (being able to place each note on the staff). Then understanding "middle C" .. notation symbols (treble cleff, CODA, D.S. al CODA, Signo, repeat, endings, rests. Then 4/4 and 3/4 and counting (16th, 1/6th, 1/4, half, whole, triplets, slurs ... the "lead sheet" .. and then chord progressions and the Nashville numbering system. That's a good start
Pretty Cool lesson here, Covers the topic quite well. Ive just made a bunch of detailed courses for beginners and advanced guitarists that you might be interested in. Check it out! would love to know what you and anyone watching this video thinks. Its totally free, and i mean TOTALLY
Thanks for explaining how the shape of thef the E min pentatonic with the open string is extended to the rest of the scales only that the strings are no longer open.
That makes a big difference to the way i look at the min pentatonic scales.thanks for pointing that connection.
hmm. too bad there is more then just 1 Penatonic scale. Not just "THE" Penatonic scale, should be "A" Penatonic scale. Thanks for misleading most of the people who watch this.
If you play a penatonic it is a Minor. Based on the assumption we are talking about natural scales. IMO natural scales are not taught correctly. I think if you teach someone the "phrasing" or pos of a natural Minor and then drill into their heads that there is a relative major 1.5 tones higher on the neck (same notes, diff root), and its natural Major phrasing, you just taught someone all natural scales in all positions on the neck. I may do a youtube lesson thing on this when I have time.

A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didnt want that happening to me
could someone please explain, what is the G scale where you play, from the high e string:
G F# E D C B A G F# E D C B A G
??? Thanks.
I have another question. That second scale he played, the G pentatonic, isn't that G minor? If so, then why wasn't the E scale minor? If not, how do you play a minor pentatonic scale?
@msopher a minor pentatonic scale means that the second note of the scale is a minor third. It could be a major third then the name would be major pentatonic scale. There is five notes in a pentatonic scale : root, minor third, fourth, fifth, and then the root one octave higher. The name of the scale comes from the root note. Start on the flat A for instance and you have a flat A minor pentatonic scale. You don't need to ruin your brain. Making music out of this F**** scale is a bit harder !
Thanks 4 the lesson. Like it alot !

most great guitarists started with drums and then went to guitar for instance Jack White, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and more.

@linkindbzw . Hahahahaha, Funny I wanted to play drums, but couldn't afford them, ended up buying a guitar instead. Best decision I ever made.

thats an eminor pentatonic

If a song is played in the C key, then you should play the Pentatonic scale from the parallel key, which is a minor.
If the song is played in c minor key, then you should play the pentatonic scale from the same key, c minor.
Go try it, it's really nice to just improvise on chord songs!
