My aunt and uncle used to live in Baton Rouge. This brings back a lot of memories because I've gone over that bridge many times! I knew we were almost there we got to the big orange bridge. Even then I could tell it was narrow! It was cool to see a train beside you ever so often also,
Great Video, Great Music especially! Born and raised in Baton Rouge. I now live in CA. Thank you for posting this and allowing me to see my hometown as often as I please. Keep 'em coming!!!
@Freewayjim Yeah, good ol' I-10 ain't too big of a deal, but US 190 on that bridge, I felt cramped just watching the video. Reminds me of Pennsylvania a bit.
@Freewayjim -Wait till you see the Huey P. Long Bridge in New Orleans, 9 Foot lanes and construction everywhere, makes the bridge in this video look wide open.
yes sr here another railfan who tank you for the double pass on the train brige and then we got lucky and get to see the train passing by on it ,so man i got to say also goes to my favorites
Wow I didn't know they had two of those. Great video Jim. Looking forward to seeing you film down in N.O. I haven't seen you down there since the 360p days.
First off, great ride and enjoyed the music track by Brand New Heavies. Just a lil trivia, there is another Huey P Long Bridge in Jefferson Parish outside of New Orleans. Also the lead singer (N Dea Davenport) in the music track is from New Orleans.

Wow, that stack interchange in the beginning totally got my attention. I can only assume that stack was built, in anticipation of a more developed freeway plan for the city (i.e. I-410).
The Huey P. Long Bridge, what a neat bridge...looks fragile, too!
@FreewayBrent That stack was built in the 70's so it very well could have been built with I-410 in mind. The bridge actually feels pretty solid, although I did not cross it while the train was, that could be a different story.
Great timing with the bridge to the music. Why Brand New Heavies were not popular as some of the pop tarts and musketeers lately, I've no clue. Great work!
Thanks for the childhood memory! I used to call the Huey P Long bridge "The Orange Bridge" LOL and loved it when we'd cross it instead of the I-10 bridge on our way to visit the family in the Lafayette area.

Im just amazed at how long the rail line part of the bridge is!

@skullcrusher301 Check out the rail line part Huey P. Long Bridge in NO in the Miss River Bridges video, it dwarfs this one (22K Feet long).

Mental note to self: Avoid Louisiana's roads at all costs.
But seriously, the lack of shoulders all over the place, plus Interstates and ramps + skinny lanes + low barriers = high blood pressure
onorebakasama 1 year ago
@onorebakasama I-10 is not that bad, but some of the older roads and bridges, yeah, it's white knuckle :)

Wow great stuff out there. Such structures are not very common in Europe to my knowledge.
aswchris 1 year ago
Just like Alabama's George Wallace, Louisana's Huey P. Long (a.k.a. "The Kingfish") has probably half of Louisiana named for him.
Great video, Jim!

1:04 - Retarded move by that van. >:-(
Toward the end, I saw that LADOTD has folks doing some weaving, with lanes ending here, curves, etc. :-D
Nice vid, Jim.
