Yeah, NASA blew it -- they should have had a live feed to a large telescope pointed at the impact zone. I suspect once those photos/videos are out, we'll see some cool stuff.
But seriously, do we all agree -- there IS NO actual footage of the impact, right? I mean, I was watching on CNN and it seemed to me like the screen just went to all-static, and then they just started showing sim footage, and yet there was no acknowledgment of the fact that we weren't actually shown the impact footage.
Am I missing something? Why did NASA invite us all to watch it on tv if there wasn't going to be anything to see? WTF?!
Of course there's footage of it, they even pointed hubble at the impact. The video taken by various observatories and the hubble has not yet been released. It could be due to the time it takes to transfer and then process that amount of video data to lower quality video that will be released, or they might even be censoring it?
Who knows, All I know is that it's almost 6 hours afterward and we're still waiting. Don't worry though, you'll see it in all it's "glory".
@sarah0leah It is decidedly so.

Try enabling the Closed Captions & Transcribe Audio. It is quite hilarious what happens.

As NASA would say: S.O.P. C.Y.A. (what if they didn't tell us and we all missed something spectacular?)
