the vast majority of videos about kai tak landings are taken the last days it was open, as they say on the description
does this mean that once the world knew that kai tak was about to close every planespotter came to hong kong with a camera and lots of tape while before 1998 the airport was barely known?
....How bout you go into an Airbus cockpit and listen to it, or ask ANY pilot who flies one? Why would it be screaming "restart restart restart"; does that make any sense?
you can not jumpseat unless you are an airline employee, it's against FAA regulations which requires all cockpits to be sterile....especially in this world we live in
Kai Tak had an awesome reputation for being a small airport capable of taking on a huge workload. But Kai Tak was ugly and awkward with its haphazard expansion. The cured approach was hair raising and frankly, quite unprofessional for an airport to require its flights to do. Chek Lap Kok is much more beautiful.
I know that it's never to old to get flying lessons but I'm not sure about becoming an airline pilot. You can you have 20/20 vision with or without glasses to pass the medical exam! ;)
don't worry about vision..most, if not all airlines, have pilots who cant see a thing without glasses..don't let anything stop you, even age...b'live me,u'll feel better if you make an effort to it...get flying..!!!! i jus started off my private lisence last month but i don't have all the money in the world...but i know i'll still achieve my dream...get flying..!!!
All airbuses have Voice callout Altimeter which reads out fifty, fourty, thirty. At 20 feet the throttles should be closed to idle thrust in preperation for reverse thrust, the computer will say "Retard" over and over as a reminder to reduce throttle to idle. It will stop repeating once the throttle is at idle. This is why you often here "Retard Retard Ret.." with one of the repeats suddenly cut off.
this is true. However boeing aircraft have a different voice readout which does not have "Retard" but instead just sais altitude. 50 40 30 20 10 (usually followed by sound of touchdown and things rattling around). Most glass cockpit aircraft have GPWS, including things like Embrariers, and Dehaviland DHC8 Turboprops. Some of these only say 400 300 200 100 50 and with different voices.
Hello, excuse-me, it s not the EGPWS which gives the height above the ground but it's the Radar altimiter, the EGPWS announces : PULL-UP woop woop PULL-UP!!! take care
tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock, bloody retard retard wipers!!! lol

it says retard... not restart. It means the throttles need to be brought back to idle.
tbmavengerstuka 3 years ago
yea i heard 'retard' too, what does that mean? is it like 'touchdown' 'touchdown'?
msethisuwan 3 years ago
"retard" in this content means that the autopilot advises the pilots to put the throttle in idle...
jastar08 3 years ago
actually it's not the autopilot thts saying retard but the GPWS

I believe the radar altitude callout is the function of GPWS, not just Airbus. Have a look at my video named: "GPWS Test Mode". It's a B737NG!

what airline is this?

The first plane buddy is Cathy Pacific airways. Hong Kong's the Hub for the airline. Plus had a new paint and logo design since this video was shot.

Cool I like the jumpseat video, you shot it perfectly, look like very challenging landing under bad weather.
