  • Voting: How to do nothing while feeling like you're doing something

  • what an absolute argument! in a perfect world this would be the case, but i have literally spent months with a whiteboard making calculations about this sort of global opinion polling and it is not possible unless you have a single point of entry to gather statistics - it must be open source, the database must be freely checkable by any and the data must be changeable at any time. for instance, see my website at tibble dot net to see what I mean. Join now and cast YOUR vote !!

  • One HUGE problem with our current computerized voting system is our inability to go in and see how our vote was counted.

In a rigged voting system this must never be allowed and until this capability exists all computerized voting systems should be rejected on legislative issues.

Until the so-called 'proprietary' vote counting computer source codes become public and we have leaders that don't spout, "I don't trust exit polls!", as an excuse to not having them, voting is a bad joke.

  • It's funny, a friend of mine came up with this idea independently at a party a few months ago; the fact that the GVS is similar demonstrates a trend towards some sort of technologized voting system for the world's citizens. I think this technology will become inevitable as we see an increase in telecommunications and information technology. This increase in global communications in conjunction with outdated voting methods will necessitate such a shift. I love and support you. Peace to all.

  • It looks nice, but only that. :)

It is to idealistic, and doesn't take into account the reality of human psychology, social behavior and differences in cultures and even subcultures. It looks like it's based on the (incorrect) premises that all humans wish only good thing for each other, and wouldn't try to abuse such a system for their own benefit. :)

Still, it's an interesting idea and good food for thought. :)

  • it's a flawed system. i vote no on the issue...

  • I thought of this idea about 20 years ago.But my idea was to have it where you call an 800 number and you pressed 1 for yes and 2 for No on a list of issues up for a vote. then this data would be anlyzed to aid politicians in and law makers.

  • Wish I seen this vid sooner.... 5 Star btw!

    Good work

  • 0.38 illuminati sign..

  • It's a Pentagram and is in no way the symbol for the Illuminati......

    You're witty comment kinda failed..

  • How would this protect the individual, from the tyranny of the majority?

  • Well, there is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which we could abide by.

Global democracy would be far better for 99 percent of the world. Tight now we have a tyranny of a tiny minority, and it ain't working too well.

  • @Sleeko11 This is a very good point and I wonder how many know where the constitutional concept of, "The People" originated?

Hint: "Never judge a person until you've walked two moons in their moccasins."

It is written original native Americans called themselves "The People" and insisted on this in the Constitution in their attempts to protect their culture from being overrun by Europeans. (Indigenous Muurs/Moors.)

  • What an absolutely brilliant idea...5***** ...if only :-))

    Great video too!

    Best wishes from

    ENGLAND & KENYA

  • Thank you. When enough people demand something, with loud enough voices, they get it.

If we want global democracy, we can make it happen.

  • I find the computerised voice almost impossible to listen to! What's wrong with human beings?

  • there is nothing wrong with human beings... humans are awesome.

  • very interesting!

  • Thank you!

  • A very positive initiative. Well done:-)

  • Thanks for the positive comment!

  • I'm curious about that example.

Say Moe does forward this issue, and manages to get a bunch of people to decide against F+ being added to the water supply. What happens if the guy who owns the water supply refuses to comply? Will this voting system include an explicit contractual obligation for all participants to abstain from business with the owner, should the dictate pass and the owner refuse to comply? Or is this voting-thing more of a polite suggestion?

    Either way, I'm intrigued.

  • the results would (at least at first) be non-binding, meaning they wouldn't be any sort of contract. its more like a consensus of opinion - say 80 percent of the population wanted something to change... that would be hard to ignore, especially when the 80 percent learn that they have overwhelming support

  • Well...

There have been Internet polls for years. Those are pretty much exactly what you're describing, right? No contractual obligations, open to anyone you choose, anyone with a web browser can view the results...

You don't need a lot of capital or political pressure to start one of those. In fact, I think you could probably do it yourself, if you wanted to.

  • There are already several global voting web-based efforts - worldvotenow, majorityvoice, simpol, theglobalvote - to name a few.

The GVS proposed here is different in that it is decentralized, with the software running on individual devices (pcs, phones) combining to create the network.

  • So then, is it your opinion that the main reasons why Internet polls have not had a larger, more radical impact upon society, is because they tend to be run from a centralized server? Or is it because they aren't easy enough to access from a smartphone?

  • I think your heart is in the right place, but your premises here are flawed in numerous ways: such as democracies have never gone to war, ergo, a democratic world would be peaceful. This is non sequitur logic.

Frankly, the implications of any Buck being able to bring up any issue he or she pleases and putting it to a vote (even if non-binding) scares the hell out of me. It's already bad enough with politicians.

  • Cont'd: I see this as devolving into just another war of all against all as all states, but most especially democratic ones devolve into.

I believe if we are to have true demos kratos, we are going to need complete mastery of our own purses and lives. Voting is little more than a sacrament if the relationship is involuntary.

Nontheless, it is nice to seek solutions, this is just an honest criticism, don't take it too harshly.

  • Thank you for your reply and for bringing up valid points.

A democratic world would likely be peaceful since it is unlikely we would find a majority of people anywhere who would vote to go to war.

What I find really scary is the trend showing the concentration of power into fewer and fewer hands, with the system continually catering to the whims of the rich.

Your point about complete mastery is true. Empowerment of the individual is what we need in our world to make it a better place.

  • Likely be peaceful- but not necessarily so. I contend that economics more than anything has to do with the decline of high-intensity wars since WW2- it's just too expensive, rather than it being innate to democracy as we know it

That's what the state does, I'm afraid. By institutionalizing aggression and allowing for mass theft (taxes), it is ripe to be abused by the connected. The ability to secede (like removing your funding) is ultimate power

I was a minarchist, but I ran out of excuses. :)

  • Hello well to be fair democratic regimes tend to go to war with each other faaar lesser then dictatorships do at one another.

    All love from me Jasmine

  • Part 2: While dictatorships go to war against both democracies and other dictatorships. How ever it is true that democratic regimes(depending on how you define) have at least attacked other democratic regimes or helped there ending like CIA helped Pinochet to get power over elected Allende, Mossadeq was overtrown largely because of USA and the UK. I have to say that USA since the 50's have been good at supporting tyranical regimes and overtrowing democratic ones sadly :(

    All love

  • you make an interesting point about the US overthrowing elected officials, but that doesn't really speak against the notion of democratic peace because there are strong questions about the authenticity of the American democracy.

also, I meant to reply to your other comment but hit remove by accident... it was about the results being non-binding. The GVS results are more like a consensus, letting the people know what others want. There is power in solidarity, when people unite behind a cause.

  • For everybody to have a voice on the issues that affect their everyday lives would be great!

ooh but would the powers that be like real democracy? I shouldn't think so. This is a great idea, Peace.

  • Thanks for the reply!

The powers that be definitely would not like this, since it would represent a threat to the status quo and to their cushy, high-status lifestyles. But oh well for them.

  • Too easy to corrupt?

  • cia nsa russian mobs

    never going to hapen

  • Nothing is impossible. CIA, NSA, mobs... these groups already exist and impact democratic processes around the world.

We need to empower people on an individual level, and the GVS is one potential way to do this.

  • Fabulous Idea - How to Make It Happen?

  • Thanks!

The key steps required to bring this idea about are: Research and Development, Release, Maintenance, and Marketing (aka spreading the word to the world)

So, the initial steps would be: A Secure funding/Partner with a capable organization B Bring together a team capable of bringing an idea of this magnitude into fruition. C Produce and Release the GVS D - Bug Fixes, Improvements, etc.

  • Exelente !

  • Gracias !

  • Sorry to those whose comments are gone... by replying to them they seem to have disappeared. It was not intentional :(

  • Yes... the world is coming together like never before. As for the massive army required to enforce this democracy... it would made up of the billions of people... a unified human race.

When we come together, when we embrace the power of solidarity, humankind is unstoppable.

  • A good idea. What about countries without access to computers/internet and cellphones? How would their voice be heard? The potential to block out an entire segment of the population b/c of their economic status is severe when you rely on technology as the tool.

  • Thanks. Your comment brings up a valid point... disenfranchisement (where people are excluded from the democratic system) would be a problem with this system.

But, for one, technology is continually getting cheaper and more available... within, say, 10 years, a significantly larger percentage of people would be connected to the net.

As well, the voice of large numbers of people already go unheard... the GVS would only open up new channels to spread their voice.

  • yes. i have heard that the amount of money spent in Iraq is even higher...

  • I for one believe that a world united in democracy can happen, it's already happening, YouTube and other digital sharing sites have been a huge beginning or foundation for this new world. I truly believe that those in favor of peaceful resolution and finding a better way to make changes than by wars and mistrust will one day be gone and we will start acting like the loving and trusting humans that we were meant to be. Thanks for the invite, you've got a new friend. Peace,...Mark

  • Yes, excellent comment. I agree completely. We are coming together on a level like never before, and this trend will only continue.

What a great day it will be, when, as you say, we will be loving and trusting, relying on peaceful methods to solve disputes.

  • Good idea, kinda creepy though

  • Thanks! It's not any more creepy than our current democratic system, where big money buys politicians, is it?

  • Great Idea!

  • Thanks! Lets spread the word about this great idea to as many people as we can... until the world hears about the options we have.

  • Absolutely brilliant, the Electoral College system ( and Supreme Court stacked by GOP) gave 500,000 vote winner, Al Gore....defeat! and handed US Pres office to bush the second. Avant Garde article app1966 proposed this, now technology is up to the challenge ..Bravo!

  • Thanks! You are right, technology is ready to usher in a new age, where we aren't so dependent on corrupt systems that don't work the way we want them to.
