  • I just go outside and squeeze a hen if I need eggs...lol. The 30+ dozen in the fridges probably negates the need for me to bother the chickens, though. Survivalist chickens!

  • OH NO IM OUT OF EGGS!

  • @Slash28ACR

    Ya, hokey I know.

These days I mix in some onions, canned cheese and tomato powder, it makes a tasty omlette.

  • Unique video.

  • themagicofcoupons

Thanks. I never buy pancake mix anymore. I just keep this whole wheat pancake mix in a big mason jar. I turn on the stove, dump a little into a bowl and add water and a bit of olive oil, wait a moment for the pan to get hot and then start the pan cakes. There's no down side to it. It's cheaper than Bisquick, better for you, better tasting, doesn't give me heartburn like white flour pancakes do, and just as fast to prepare.

  • Since I started back couponing I haven't had to spend one dime on non-food items. I get shampoo, deodrant, toiletries, paper towels, lotion, etc all free. Do you do couponing? It will save a lot on your grocery bill.

  • The preparedness lifestyle has a huge number of benefits and almost no disadvantages. The lifestyle is all about living a more practical life with less debt, less stress, and more of what makes life worth living. And as a bonus you're ready when the power goes out, ready for a loss of income due to a job loss or injury, so you're not as stressed out. My last debt is my home and I'll have that paid off by November. After that my expense will be about 900 a month with a take home pay of 4000/month

  • A good overview of the modern survivalist philosophy is available in episode 319 of the survival podcast. You can find it by googling this. . .

survival podcast 319 modern survival philosophy

It's the second item in the results list. Fast forward to about 5:50 to get past the intro stuff and you'll be into the meat of the podcast.

As a coupon clipper, you're probably halfway to being a survivalist without even knowing it.

    Later!

  • 5/5 and fav'd. :)

I agree and "Cudos" for walking the talk. "That's right: "Eat what you store & store what you eat."

  • The wood stove has a cooking top for two pans on it. I live in Ohio, I don't want to be caught without heat if the electricity should go off!

  • I bought from honeyville too. I recently purchased the powdered eggs, powdered milk, dry onions, cheese, etc. My main stock in white rice and beans in mylar bags with 02 absorbers in 5 gallon buckets! I was afraid to buy the brown rice because I heard of the short shelf life. But the brown rice is supposed to be more nutritious. Do you know how long the little propane cylinders will last regarding shelf life? I have 10 cylinders now, but want to stock more. I'm buying a wood stove

  • We should all be investing in Tangible assets, and eggs are defiantly tangible assets, especially when you're hungry.

    Interesting video.

  • That nonstick pan puts out gases that make you sick. It will kill a bird and small metal particles come off on the food that your organs cannot process. The Food network did some tets to confirm. Stick with stainless steel it lasts longer and is better for you.

  • I have noticed more people are stocking up on flour and baking comodoties. There reasnobaly priced at the minute (have gone up in price a little) People seem to be learning to bake more as it's hell of a lot cheaper than buying premade foods.

I havnt seen powdered eggs yet, sure I will if I look around. Good video.

  • And it's better to cook in the cold months... "That good warm kitchen feeling". :P

  • I wish you the best in the days ahead.

  • Howdy,

Don't forget that eggs are mostly used to make ingediants "stick" together when cooking. Applesauce also works quiet well in place of eggs, so keep that in mind as well if you run out of eggs.

    ~Garnet

  • funny. Note to self get powdered eggs

  • Keep stocking those supplies

  • You know it! I just ordered a case of 6 number 10 cans of powdered eggs for 104.48 including shipping.

    Honeyville's Dried Whole Eggs

Each can works out to about 80 or 90 eggs so I'll be adding about 500 eggs to my stores. They're supposed to last 5 to 10 years and I have a nice cool dry place to store them. The price about 2.50 a dozen so that's not any more expensive than normal eggs. It's a good way to lock in a good price for when food gets expensive. They're grown and canned in the US too.

  • Agreed! Honeyville is reputable . Check out KATADYN to re hydrate.

  • Thanks for the tip, I'm looking at their videos right now. I bought a different brand of back packing filter but their pocket filter kit is much better. It's about 4 times the price but it lasts a good deal longer too. I'll put it on my shopping list and pick one up around January.

  • Great vid!...One question...where can I find powdered eggs?

  • Hello mech64 I knew you could not stay away.

  • Woa! You remembered! Thanks. That's a nice compliment.

    I'm glad to be back.

  • Another solution (my way)

Oh no I'm out of eggs.... Guess I'll have to go out to the coop and collect a few lOL

  • Ha, I like your way better, but then again I'm bike riding distance away from my nearly depression proof 32 dollar an hour job. I fix transit buses for a living. A few years back I saw peak oil coming and guessed that we'd have a depression along with it. So I quit my job as a diesel truck mechanic and went to work for public transit. When people can no longer afford to drive their hummers to work, they'll be riding the bus. In that situation they won't be laying off bus mechanics.

  • As people loose their jobs and no longer need the bus, more people from higher levels of society will most likely fill those seats.

I have a nice deck garden here and as soon as things get bad enough for the sheep to realize we're in trouble, I'll be here to help turn all these empty grassy areas in my condo complex into gardens.

We even have a natural spring here that can be improved to provide a lot of water. Right now though it just drains into the storm sewer system.

  • Hey buddy. Nice Stove.

  • Thanks! I think I'm going to do all my cooking on it until the propane bottle runs out. Then I'll get an idea of how long they will last me. I don't want to keep too many of those things in my condo though. If there's a fire, each one of those things could become a bomb.

I'm strongly considering getting a small storage locker and moving about half of my survival supplies into it, then throwing an old mattress some assorted junk over the top. Right now I have all my eggs on one basket - my condo.

  • Awesome Man. I like your idea of the no power practice scenerio. You are well prepared and organized. *****

  • Thanks! Coming from a guy like you, that's a huge compliment! Per your suggestions I bought a leatherman wave and carry it all the time. I also got the gas mask and some other items.

I found a neat space blanket from MPI outdoors that might interest you. It has the Mylar Reflective coating laminated over cloth, with a layer of plastic on the other side. It's much more rugged than a space blanket and it even has eyelets for rope.

MPI outdoors, All weather emergency blanket.

  • Those are great, I have one, but I appreciate the suggestion. Very durable, I usually have one with me in the winter since I'm in CT. They can be used for so many things. I hpoe the Wave is treating you well(I know it is). Hope your arm is better too. Thanks Man

  • Thanks, I'm healing up nicely. We were doing grappling last week and I was up against a big pacific islander guy. 15 years a heavy diesel truck mechanic has made me strong but that guy is a good deal stronger than I am. Since we are both new we went into it too heavily. I should have tapped out but I didn't. The result is that I sprained my neck and my elbow. I'll be able to jump back into it next monday though. I've been out for 2 weeks and I can already feel the fat starting to come back.
