A magnet will damage a HDD it will not damage an SDD because SDD's don't use magnetic technology to store data. Also it will damage CRT monitors. Anything else is pretty much gonna be unaffected. But magnet + Computer almost always = Stupid Idea. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. DON'T BE STUPID LIKE THESE PEOPLE.

omg kid, stop yelling! And the computer won't crash just by dragging a magnet over the hard drive, since magnets cannot erase RAM! Ram keeps the computer running, and changes will be obvious until you restart the machine.

True, some paging files will be destroyed, but the computer self-compensates for it, and I doubt that there was anything in page with only Pinball open, depending on spec, but pinball doesn't require much resources...

technically to destory a hard drive u need a "rare earth" or neodymium magnet and usually its quicker to put it right near the heads when they are reading with the cover off. but the combination of all those had enough force to erase the servo track on the hdd's discs. good video

@benthamchang Well, the hard drive should remain operable, it just gets all its data erased. Just like putting a magnet up to a CRT monitor...there's a "degauss" button. The hard drive's equivalent is putting everything on all over again, like the technician said.
