Incredible work! I was just wondering did you reference a model pose at all or was her figure and composition entirely imagined? I'm SLOWLY getting better at digital painting, but having a hard time with early posing and composition, wondering if it's more helpful to just start from my imagination or work from a reference. Thanks!
@barretokun I used reference. Always back up your imagination with reference, otherwise you'll make mistakes that will turn into habits. Starting off a new painting can be tricky, but looking at inspiring artwork, reference photos etc will spark ideas and provide a foundation on which to build your own image.
If you are worried about correct proportion, you should block in the basic forms: rib cage, arms, pelvis, legs, head, and neck first. This would give you a better idea when you aren't drawing from a ref, and also helps hold the scale right when you are drawing from a ref. This would have especially helped keep the nose at the right angle (as it's a bit to the right of true, like about 80 degrees instead of 90).
@Ogzltheeve A bit of both. I like to try and work on a single layer, to make it feel as traditional as possible. But if I'm trying out a new idea that I might want to remove, I'll draw this on a second layer. Once I'm happy with the changes, I'll merge the layers back into a single layer. As the image becomes more complicated, you'll notice I start using more layers, more often, but usually I'll only use a maximum of 3.
So beautiful and very inspiring and i also love the music. it was very calming and enjoyable. sitting here for 15 mins while my butt got numb was worth it! XD
@Fallenwo Thank you :) I get asked this a lot. Most of the brushes are custom made and free downloads. I'll have to put together a collection on my website soon.
@ShadowsWithinVanity Thank you. I was really careful to choose the right kind of music, to compliment the art and the theme I'm aiming for. I'm pleased you think it's the right choice :)
I think it's amazing, your art. You can paint a beautiful face out of a blob, which is what I see in the beginning. (Well, the blob being the basic form.) You've done an amazing job so far, can't wait to see more!
@DonovanGFX I hope so. But bare in mind I create these videos in my spare time. I work as an illustrator and that keeps me busy. It's frustrating as I'd like to make more videos, in more depth. I'm considering creating a tutorial book, possibly with a video CD. I'm in the process of contacting publishers to see if anyone is interested and whether it would be financially viable for me to spend time on it. It's something I'd really like to do and I think it'll help a lot of people.
@XChurisoX Lots of people ask this. Some of them are brushes I've made, others I downloaded from free sources. I'll see if I can upload the collection to my website soon. I'll add the link to the video description once they're available.
thank you so much for sharing this artwork :D really enjoyed it!!

@Drakaran okay, when you skipped ahead to where she's laying horizontal again, you evidently saw and fixed the nose.

how you split screen in two parts ???
NobleDrone 3 months ago
@NobleDrone You can make a new window if you go to window>arrange>new window for ***.psd
I think it's for CS3 onwards, not sure.

@Faallx 12000 × 5000 pixels, 300 DPI (at the moment, it could change as it develops).

do you think you would ever be able to make a video giving tips on how to use photoshop in the way you do to paint people, animals .etc?
