I knew nothing about GIMP and thanks to your help i have been able to complete this process. It took me three or four attempts as i knew nothing about layers and the other technical points u mentioned, (now i know =D) thanks much for your informative help.

Clever - but the color selection tool of my gimp gets stuck every time I try to use it. And gets gimp frozen too. I have to ''end task'' through windows task manager. I am surprised to see that your color selection tool works well.
