@gespilk People fall in and out of "love". It's really lust, or passionate love. Not many actually make it to a stage of compassion and yes, I agree with you.

I know people that fall in and out of love very fast. When they are IN they really believe it. They tell you thing and make promises. After consuming the relationship for a while they turn the other way.
I believe people treat relationships the same way they treat their personal belongings. If you observe people loosing interest quickly with the things they have and seek new things or abandoning/neglecting their belongings then they most likely will treat the same way the relationships.

@gespilk Not necessarily true. I switch hobbies and personal things a lot. Like, I will like something one day and something else another. I have never wanted a different girl (I am in a 4 1/2 year relationship) and have never wanted to cheat. So just saying, there are some good guys these days, just gotta dig deep to find them.

I knew someone that dated a girl for 3 1/2 years. He swore to love her forever and she believed. So they consumed the relationship within the first 2 weeks and both lost their virginity. True love one may say. At least that what they believed. He got into college and 6 months later started cheating. Soon after the relationship ended. She got married eventually for a local fellow. He continued to jump from relationship to relationship. I lost track what happens to them now.

@gespilk Well I have been in college for 2 years now. Never cheated, never think about it. We have never done that, we are waiting for marriage which will come once we are financially stable, and can take care of a baby in case one comes along.

Treasuring virginity could also be about wanting to be special in other people's eyes, like an ego thing. It isn't necessarily true that there is any greater love in a relationship between people who have never had sex with anyone else.

But true colors show, and lack of genuinity will become apparent.
And no, it's no proven fact, nor do I claim it's the best love.
But it's something that I personally feel would give a deeper connection between lifelong partners, whether they consciously recognize it or not.
Just an opinion, which we are all entitled to, right? :)

@MandyRaeRawr Sure. I'm just pointing out other aspects to consider. I personally think that limiting your experience of physical intimacy to one individual could mean that you get a more shallow experience, no possibility to see how different individuals express themselves. As I see it you could have several partners and when you did find someone you would want to spend your life with you would have more to give. How would you distinguish a person's idiosyncrasies if you know no one else?

@winstono75 I'm not saying that you can't have physical intimacy,
there's plenty to do to know how one another express themselves without actually having sex.
I mean for me, I want to wait before that last step is taken; that last boundary crossed. And when you've someone you're going to spend your life with, you'll be able to give them that, you'll cross that last boundary together,
which in turn, at least for females, creates a more indepth emotional bond.

@MandyRaeRawr But how can you know you're gonna spend the rest of your life with somebody? After all you are two different persons and you may grow in different directions. You make a fixed decision early in life and you're gonna stick to that because of a sense of moral rectitude? To me that's not a great basis for letting your love grow. Your love is independent of the other person. The love in your relationship is not a joint possession, but two individual creations. Just stating my view. :)

I do not think by any stretch of the imagination that i'll be finding the person I want to spend the rest of my life with anytime soon. For precisely the reason you stated.
And if I grow out of this moral, (which really isn't so strict, simply no vaginal penetration-excuse the bluntness- so i'm not nearly as limited as you say)
My love will grow, far before the bedroom, and very much with that other person,

@MandyRaeRawr OK, but I don't see what the big deal is about the vaginal penetration compared to other sexual acts. Sure, virginity is technically related to vaginal penetration, but what's the use of being a virgin in name only? I think the bible says something about sexual sin being committed in the mind. But back to what I first said about the ego thing. That your virginity is something special and that only one person will be allowed to experience you sexually. False satisfaction, to me.

@winstono75 Like I said, it's a moral thing. To me, that's the point of no return. That would seal a certain emotional bond with someone. I know, for absolute certain, that the person who took my virginity would be regarded as special. There would always be a certain part of me that just wouldn't let that fade into blurred memories of a young Mandy. I wouldn't be a virgin in name only, physically and emotionally too I would be. And I'm not making a religious argument though;)

for I'd have no crossed that boundary, not let the moment pleasures and desires overtake me,
so that I may have that experience, and hold special that memory knowing that the person that did is whom I will be with for my life.

@MandyRaeRawr So we differ in how much we value virginity then. To me it's nothing. There has to be a first time, that's all. That doesn't mean that you should do something stupid or sell yourself in any way. I understand you're not making a religious argument, but this idea of virginity as something holy and dedicating your sexuality to one person for life definitely has its origin in Christian beliefs. The virtues connected to virginity and sex make no sense to non-Christians.

I believe when in relationship (love) with a person we are not only with them Now but we also have to accept their past as part of what they are and consider its implications for the future.
The past behaviour of a person matters for me. If they have made choices or have taken actions that contradict my moral values I have to consider how those differences would affect the relationship and our future together.
We are defined first by our actions, choices and then by our beliefs.
