When i first heard the song I remember thinking that woman can sing. Later I discovered it was actually Roger singing high notes. That was a true wow moment.
You have love the vocals by Roger (those screams are unparallled) and Freddie. I have always loved the superlative rhythm of Freddie's piano playing. His piano playing is very underrated. RIP Freddie....a true genious.
the arguments here are kinda cute :) sorry for eavesdropping guys :D can't resist :)) Long Live Queen and Queen- Fans around the world !!! tres charmant :))

Queen is like Elvis, C Berry ,Bach ,Mozart ,B Marley ... whatever u think about them , u can't deny they changed the history of music :)
@UbarTulkas I can honestly say I have not one song from Queen that I like better than any other, Iv'e followed them since they released their first single 'Keep yourself alive' in 1973 when I was 9yrs old and have every single album they ever made, Ive been very lucky and seen them play so many times I still play their music all the time, the older albums bring back a lot of memories for me and I love the way they put them together, their music will live forever along with memories of Freddie.

@spacecowboy7580 Hey calm down guy, we listen the same music, what's the problem? I'm not english, so give me the name of your book, instead of shouting on me...
@spacecowboy7580 So this is what it says on french wikipedia ( so I translate ) on his own, he took the surname of Freddie Mercury after the song "My Fairy King" which talks about a "mother mercury". Now the english wikipedia "[...] Mercury chose the name "Queen" for the new band. He later said about the band's name, "I was certainly aware of the gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it".[1] At about the same time, he changed his surname Bulsara into Mercury"^^
@CRBjeep Hey guy what's your problem, did I say that Queen had something to do with Ibex? You're pretty pathetic, you know I'm french ok, so there are not lots of books about Queen, and Freddie Mercury in France because this is a fucking country, so I want to come in England later, but if there are only people like you, I prefer stayed in France... Anyway I meant, you can have all what you want about Queen in England, so teach me, instead of shouting on me... And yeah sorry for my english...
@MsMercury67 Ok first of all, I'm not a guy and I'm American. I wasn't trying to "shout at you". I was just clearing up what I perceived to be incorrect information. No harm,no foul. Don't be so sensitive.
@CRBjeep Ok so then sorry... but anyway I said "shout" because my vocabulary in english is pretty limited, and because sapcecowboy was really bad speaking to me, so I thought you were too, so sorry... Anyway I knew that Freddie was only in Ibex, because he made this group in India, so of course Brian and Cie weren't there... And I hope this is right! ;-)
@MsMercury67 It's all good. Ibex was a British band. His band that he belonged to during his years at boarding school in India was called The Hectics. : )
@spacecowboy7580 Hey, I don't wanna create a new argument, but just try to find on youtube "Freddie Mercury The Untold Story" from kevcip, and listen the 6th part^^

I wonder if Freddie was giving us a glimpse of his earlier life with "Oh Mother Mercury, look what they've done to me. I cannot run, I cannot hide..."
Whether reality or fantasy, it's a work of genius.
Freddie Mercury.Brian May..Roget Taylor.John Deacon..you lived up to your name...Queen. Freddie chose this name in part cause it was regal..powerful..something absolute..this is Queen.4 men each a musical genius..masters of their craft. I consider myself fortunate.to have seen them live 3 times..they were amazing.from the first cord...to the first note of Freddie's...clear. perfect voice..you were taken on a musical journey.Their music will live on..Freddie.was a gem may he RIP
@ex59neo53 Do you mean Today's music being of poor quality? I don't listen to Queen cuz I'm down on current music. Before I 'discovered' Queen 3yrs ago, that's all I listened to, not liking old music at all. But, after hearing Freddie & experiencing his extraordinary genius, I was so blown away & now am totally Addicted to Queen! Not out of nostalgia cuz I have none! But, cuz they're so far superior to anything I've ever heard or any band I've seen....and I've seen them all.
@FREDDIEistheBEST1 I just say : u hear a song done 30+ years ago and think 'wow ,that's still worth a bunch of listening' ... 2 reasons for that : the band was ahead of it's time ,actual music originality is poor ,or the both of them
@ex59neo53 Pretty much. But, I'd argue that it's Queen's uniqueness & originality that caught my attention. Plus, of course, Freddie's incredible voice & electrifying passion! Freddie didn't just sing a song, he Became the song! I've never seen anything so compelling, so dynamic.....ever!
Queen was ahead of its time...so timeless, totally ageless, exploring so many diff genres, boldly going where no other band dared.
@FREDDIEistheBEST1 Nowadays u can be a genius ,if ur 1st album is a wreck or an half-success u don't have a chance to make a 2nd one... at that time (70s) a producer could give u a 2nd chance (what if Queen was not able to create the wonderful "A Night at the Opera" album?)
queen is the most amazing band and the least appreciated it. Queen is not just about 80s pop, this is a real masterpiece... too bad its not wide spread enough. thanx everyone who's watching... ur witnessing pure perfection.
First heard this band in the early 70's....it was love at first listen..Pure Genius! I was lucky enough to see Queen live a few times..took my breath away . ..I will alway be a fan of this Brilliant music. ..Freddie Mercury you were a gem..you left an amazing legacy...Farrokh Bulsara I miss your presence in this world...RIP beautiful..sweet..man
Apparently, this song was written before the band was formed. The lyrics, "Mother Mercury, What Have you Done to Me" written by Freddie were the inspiration to change his last name from "Bulsara to "Mercury".This song opened the door for Freddie to literally transform his identity on stage & showcase the brilliant musician & vocalist! He empodied in spirit, body & mind the theatrical performance & wide ranging vocals that would set the stage for Freddie & Queen to become the Greatest Band Ever!
Thank you Farrokh Balsara, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon from someone who was a fan from the first time I sat on my friends lawn with our sony boom box "thats an 8 track player" and listened to Queen...from Liar, to My fairy king to Keep yourself alive we knew this was an Amazing, Brilliant group of guys...and when I saw them first time MSG 1977, Took your breath away...their music took slightly different paths through the years but....they blew me away with each new album. RIP Freddie
@ettertje01 I remember when bohemian rhapsody came out it was pure genius!! like I said I was lucky I saw them in '77 and '78 best live shows I ever saw!! Freddie Mercury was the best front man ever!
@RocketQueenx18 ....thanks they were Amazing Freddie Mercury was the best front man ever, Brian May's solo's were killer combined wuth John Deacon on bass and Roger Taylor on drums you had this perfect storm of pure genius..
Exquisite Queen......total perfection!!!! Such a shame this never got the proper exposure, as well as so many of their other hidden treasures. So many masterpieces, such little airplay!
In terms of style (both musical and lyrical), this song seems to have a lot more in common with "Queen II" than with the rest of the songs on their debut album.
It definitely points very strongly as to where they were going rather than where they'd been.
Personally, I much prefer "Queen II", so it's probably no surprise that this is my favourite song from their first album. I always thought it was very underrated.
This is for me Queen's most beautiful song. The lyrics are beautiful. The intricacies and complexities of this composition are such not often found in popular music. Another example of Mercury's musical genius. I love how the song builds and builds to its climactic ending. Truly delightful.
Age 13 in '73, peaking on blotter acid, 3:00 on a weekday after school, needle gently lowers on virgin vinyl first Queen LP...rocking out impossibly, first three songs...until...hearing Roger Taylor 'sky' as they blast off on the opening bars...and then...Freddie, piano and lead vocals. FULL SCALE TRIPPING BALLS!!!
@ZzzombieDuhh Their first album was by far, the best album Queen ever recorded. Although they had more hits along their 20+ year career as a band, the comparison to the first album is none. I think their first album is a classic in itself. I would go as far as saying that it is better than A Day at the Races.
@OtorresFitness It is by far one of their best! There was something about Queen and Queen II which really showed their true talent as song writers and musicians. Don't get me wrong, I love every single Queen album but as the years went on they seemed to concentrate on the same kind of rock sound. Queen (& Queen II) showed their true talent. Who would've thought the same band created My Fairy King and Liar?! I'll always love early Queen that tiny but more than later Queen.

I said read a book...not Wikipedia...You shouldn't believe all you read on there.
The book is called .. Queen ..The Early Years by Mark Hodkinson.
It tells how Freddie was still with his previous group..Ibex, when he decided to call himself Freddie Mercury.
My Fairy King had not even been written.
He also says Freddie chose the name Queen, because it sounded regal.

@FREDDIEistheBEST1 I just say : u hear a song done 30+ years ago and think 'wow ,that's still worth a bunch of listening' ... 2 reasons for that : the band was ahead of it's time ,actual music originality is poor ,or the both of them
ex59neo53 3 months ago
@ex59neo53 Pretty much. But, I'd argue that it's Queen's uniqueness & originality that caught my attention. Plus, of course, Freddie's incredible voice & electrifying passion! Freddie didn't just sing a song, he Became the song! I've never seen anything so compelling, so dynamic.....ever!
Queen was ahead of its time...so timeless, totally ageless, exploring so many diff genres, boldly going where no other band dared.
Queen - bold, brazen, brilliant - the BEST!!!
FREDDIEistheBEST1 3 months ago 10
@FREDDIEistheBEST1 Nowadays u can be a genius ,if ur 1st album is a wreck or an half-success u don't have a chance to make a 2nd one... at that time (70s) a producer could give u a 2nd chance (what if Queen was not able to create the wonderful "A Night at the Opera" album?)

that intro is amazing

queen is the most amazing band and the least appreciated it. Queen is not just about 80s pop, this is a real masterpiece... too bad its not wide spread enough. thanx everyone who's watching... ur witnessing pure perfection.

Has this (especially 1:20 - 1:25) been included in an OST of a movie or something? Cause I'm pretty darn sure I've heard this elsewhere.

Just if you like this type of music of Queen you can say that you're really fan of Queen!
(Queen I), (Queen II), (Sheer Heart Attack).

I think this song is amazing.

RIP Freddie

NotATube 8 months ago 3
This is for me Queen's most beautiful song. The lyrics are beautiful. The intricacies and complexities of this composition are such not often found in popular music. Another example of Mercury's musical genius. I love how the song builds and builds to its climactic ending. Truly delightful.

The best band of all time: Queen.
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
Age 13 in '73, peaking on blotter acid, 3:00 on a weekday after school, needle gently lowers on virgin vinyl first Queen LP...rocking out impossibly, first three songs...until...hearing Roger Taylor 'sky' as they blast off on the opening bars...and then...Freddie, piano and lead vocals. FULL SCALE TRIPPING BALLS!!!

ROULERS1 9 months ago 4
@ROULERS1 Agreed. This album was amazing and this song is simply beautiful, definitely one of their best.
ZzzombieDuhh 9 months ago
@ZzzombieDuhh Their first album was by far, the best album Queen ever recorded. Although they had more hits along their 20+ year career as a band, the comparison to the first album is none. I think their first album is a classic in itself. I would go as far as saying that it is better than A Day at the Races.
OtorresFitness 8 months ago 2
@OtorresFitness It is by far one of their best! There was something about Queen and Queen II which really showed their true talent as song writers and musicians. Don't get me wrong, I love every single Queen album but as the years went on they seemed to concentrate on the same kind of rock sound. Queen (& Queen II) showed their true talent. Who would've thought the same band created My Fairy King and Liar?! I'll always love early Queen that tiny but more than later Queen.
