I love Ilyushin :) boeings and airbusses are so typical these days, whats fun about them? theyre everywhere!! ilyushins and tupolevs are rare birds and makes it even more exciting and special to spot them :) and the engine sound - priceless!!
@justincrzo No one gives a fucking shit about your shitty opinion. No one really even wants people like you to leave USA and come fuck up other countries, so please do not fly with any type of plane other than US domestic flights. Also be creative, If it aint boeing, I aint going sounds so childish.
I dont see to many Russian aircraft falling out of the sky due to poor engineering. If they do crash its usually due to pilot error and lax rules, not any fault of the quality of the airframes. The only place where the IL-96 may lack slightly behind the A-340 is in range due to SLIGHTLY more economical engines and slightly lower airframe weights. However, i'd like to see an A-340 take off from some of the airfields (if you want to call them that) the IL-96 can operate from.
Because one time they said that russian aircrafts are not good, its dangerous to fly on it... what an american and western propaganda to fool ordianary travelers.these planes are marvelous
I guess, because this type is so "superior", Aeroflot are in the process of ditching theirs. In fact, Aeroflot are drastically reducing all Russian built types in their fleet.... I guess that says something about the "superiority" or Russian aircraft when Russia's largest airline is getting rid of theirs.
The IL-96 first flew on September, 1988 and the A340 first flew on October, 1991. The Il-96 is also an upgraded and shorter version of the IL-86 (first flew on December, 1976)... who copied who?? drive your own conclusions
I have nothing but respect for Russian pilots and their support staffing. Any Americans talking crap need to sitfu unless you try to put yourself in a Russian pilots shoes and see how you survive.
It's a tragedy that there even had to be a cold war and Americans didn't have an opportunity to work with Russians to develop technology further or have more integration.
many people are not smart and they keep saying that this plane is a copy of A 340 that's stupid!! this plane have been made long way before the AIRBUS A340, so next time be sure of what you say, and beats the air bus in terms of profitability with its 4 verry economic engines, and more bigger cabin. but slighty heavy,

Totally agree with swampwatch's opinion, and even if my own experience of flight on ex-Cubana's and Aerocaribbean IL-18D or Yak-42D makes me love those ex-Soviet built airliners, the technology use on the Il-96 is representative of an especially defect to Russians: they are still unable to miniaturize components and create a system of effective coordination. THIS is still visible on their Warships where we see the masts covered with radars and electronic equipments.
When you have a SIGNIFICANTLY larger number of Boeing and Airbus planes ... flying millions more passengers around the world in any given year ... Of course these two superior companies will have a higher accident/perish rate ... I don't see the major airlines of the world running out to purchase Ilyushins or Tupolevs ... The Boeings and Airbuses are better built ... more fuel efficient ... Since profitability is the name of the game in the West ... Airlines know this.
@swampwatch There are actually larger airlines looking to buy Tupolev aircraft along with looking at the possibility of the Sukhoi Su-100, Irkut MS-21 and the Chinese Comac C919 when they come into production. I know these airlines aren't full fare airlines nor are they flag-carriers but there are airlines looking to make large orders of "non-western aircraft". And because these are low cost airlines, profitability is a very high priority for them they must see something they like with Tupolev.
Fuel efficiency my ass. Look what the Detroit auto industry has been getting away with for 3 decades. They still think it's the 1950's. It's all politics and deals under the table. The civilians aviation is no exception. Both Boeing and Airbus have got massive support from their respective governments
When using crashes per flighthours for ANY type of aircraft (which is a fair comparison rather than the total number) many Russian planes still come out better, despite sloppy service
@McLarenMercedes .............. You lost ALL credibility when you chose to compare aircraft fuel efficiency with that of an automobile ..... LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, these planes in the passenger version it is let out only 30 pieces. All of them safely fly worldwide. The president of Russia has such two planes. The most positive responses from pilots. And the main criterion for any plane, is accident-free operation, and lives of people.
U.S. airliners surpass the accident rate of Soviet/Russian flown Tu´s and IL´s. Until the 90s, it was only 1 carrier in USSR: Aeroflot. During the Cold War Aeroflot was the world´s LARGEST FLEET, and had a smaller accident rate than the U.S. Boeing fleets. U are great at "safety regulations" in the U.S. but that doesn´t mean your products are better, at all. And the U.S. Mantra: "our avionics are superior" is another bogus claim; in many aspects Russian electronics match and even surpass yours.
@vonkaunaz Enough with the dick-measuring. The Cold War is over. Both sides copy each other, and both sides have their upsides and downsides. Accident rates will be Russia's upside. Profitability will be ours.
In our "Western World" we´ve been trained to believe Soviet/Russian tech is "inferior" to what the USA and other NATO members produce; of course, we know that´s U.S./NATO crap & propaganda. In the American continent we are used to see airliners from the major airlines that of course are all American, thus only see Boeings in our airports and not Tupolevs or ILs. Friends of mine have flown in IL-96s and told me the experience is the same if not better than on any Boeing. I´d love to fly in one.
@vonkaunaz Nice point and thought, however there is a very real reason for this belief. Both the IL 86 and 96 did not meet US FAA safety regulations in terms of avionics. The same could be said for noise levels. US airlines choose aircraft types based on fuel economy and other factors tied to business needs. US and European airlines don't fly Russian built aircrafts mostly due to regulations. Not to say that Russian aircraft are unsafe. But Boeing and Airbus have more advanced avionics.
@cat dude 16 flying 12 being produce 6 being stored! No incidents! No stupid joystick like the scare buss!!!! I guess Russians finally did some thing right
Look another Russian designed stollen! But thank god they did not steal the hole designed from scare buss! I guess a i96 is better then a 340!!!!! No accidents jet
How busy is Orly now, ive heard it has suffered in recent years from CDG's rapid expansion......airlines moving out to set up base there instead etc.......
@uhudmen cuba buys them because the embargo the united states has on cuba doesnt permit cuba to buy boeings or airbus. cubana operated an a330 leased from novair and were happy with its performance.
@uhudmen Russian airplanes are very good if maintained properly. In fact if my life depended on it I would rather fly in a Illyushin or Tupulev before a Boeing or Airbus. You are right about "MONEY" these birds are from the past when Aeroflot was CCCP, they did not care about "MONEY" then. As you know Aeroflot of today does care about "MONEY" that's why they are flying western types. Your words " safe as US jets " sets US jets as a standard to follow, I do not think so.

What a glorious sight! The peoples plane taking off for the peoples republic, the worker's paradise of Cuba! As a communist, how I yearn to fly on this bird the people lovingly created for the working classes to fly upon! Long live the revolution! Power to Cuba! Power to North Korea! Power to the proletariat! Rebuild the USSR! Bring Maoist thought back to China! Down with America! Down with Israel! Down with the running dogs of capitalism!
Man would i love to see that beauty in Delta colors and United colors. The IL96 is a beautiful aircraft that deserves to be flown by all the airlines!
Ilyushin Il-96 is a four-engined long-haul widebody airliner designed by Ilyushin in the Russian Federation and manufactured by the Voronezh Aircraft Production Association in Voronezh.
It's not a modified Il86 but a new construction they started in 1986. I had a flight with Il-96 from Moscow to Shanghai back in 2002. It felt modern and spacy. From a passengers view it's almost no difference to A340. However, flying with Aeroflot was pure chaos.
*Exept my flight with Yak-42 from SXM to Santiago de Cuba, engine No'2 shut down during the flight and crew prepar passenger for an emergency water splash landing. But finally Pilot and 2nd leutnant made a perfect landing on Antonio Maceo. So we can't go to our parking place due to all engines shut down during the taxi. Expert find the problems after a week of investigations: Yak's fuel gauges was for Russian and he was in... liters and at Juliana refuelers are in gallons !!!
Il-96 was a "boosted" version of the IL-86 with more efficient engines, short body and more tall tail. He fly before A340 but after 744. He was made for seduce all C.C.C.P republics with cabin options like West side airliners. I fly six times aboards Cubana's IL's, one time aboard IL-18 (with sheep in the cabin), another time aboard an Il-62 (what a powerfull aircraft !!) and final time aboard an Il-96 from Paris to Havana and all flights made aboard Russian Airliners was my best remembers*
It has absolutely nothing in common with A340. First of all, il-96 made its first flight when a340 was in early development. Secondly, if 2 aircrafts have wide fuselage and 4 engines, it doesn't mean they are the same.
Nope it is, the PS-90A engines are most comparable to the Rolls-Royce RB211, emmisions, noise, and fuel consumption are similar to western airliners. There is an improved version, the PS-90A2. Its even better!
Check your facts before you say this. I was supposed to fly in an Aeroflot B-777 to Moscow, but was provided with an Ilyushin Il-96 and it was better than the American stuff they have. I actually prefer the Ilyushin over the Boeing 777, 767, 747 or Airbus A340, A330 or the A380. Ilyushin Il-96 was concepted as a Soviet plane in 1986 but is however Russian. Nothing about the plane was stolen from the west. You owe Ilyushin an apology.
@tkaminsk : Agreed! Lots of ignorant American and other anti-Russian westerners still trapped in the mindset of the Cold War truly believe that the Soviets/Russians "could not develop" their own technology and that "everything was stolen from them geniuses". What a load of crap, it´s useless to waste time with these barely literate fools. In many technological aspects the Soviets not only matched the Americans but surpassed them, while in other aspects the Americans certainly were better.
Of course the Americans were ahead in all aspects of technology. That is why Yuri Gagarin was the first American and man to be in space, but I am confused now because Gagarin does not sound American to me. How can this be ????????????????? A primitive country like Russia beating America to the stars. Something is wrong here. Sergia Korolev was really an American defector who designed the worlds first interplanetry rocket and sputnik I THE WORLDS first satellite was also American.
The Chinese get the same ignorant shit today. Even if a lot of things the Chinese make is excellent, we still got to hear the "Made in China" is some joke. At the same time people in general don't know how many parts of their computers are made in China.
As an ignorant American but very not anti-Russian, I always admired the Russian/Soviet Aerospace industry and its achievements. You are right about the cold-war mentality. I am a veteran of that war and I can tell you most of us had and still have a healthy respect for what you cats did. I am very happy that those times are behind us.
@vonkaunaz Why then did all eastern european carriers change their soviet built equipment for boeing and airbuses after 1989, except for Interflug that went oot of business?/ even today Aeroflot uses mainly western equipment. SAoviets didn t co-operate with others, they were suspicious and secretive which was nt positive in termsof technological development. Its like Airbus would cordon off their Hamburh and Tolouse factories and try to do everything themselves.
Hello! Greatings from Brazil! Can u tell me the name of the music used at the final of the video? Nice video. Tks

They only built 23 IL-96's. Amazing.

Little joke.
I don't like babble about copies. The Russians and French had already a contract about cooperation before the construction the Tu-144 and Concorde.
ichbinsdoch 2 years ago
Actually is the A340 a copy of IL96. :)
ichbinsdoch 2 years ago 3

Expert find the problems after a week of investigations: Yak's fuel gauges was for Russian and he was in... liters and at Juliana refuelers are in gallons !!!
bombcat91 3 years ago 3
Il-96 was a "boosted" version of the IL-86 with more efficient engines, short body and more tall tail. He fly before A340 but after 744. He was made for seduce all C.C.C.P republics with cabin options like West side airliners. I fly six times aboards Cubana's IL's, one time aboard IL-18 (with sheep in the cabin), another time aboard an Il-62 (what a powerfull aircraft !!) and final time aboard an Il-96 from Paris to Havana and all flights made aboard Russian Airliners was my best remembers*

Like all Russian Airliners, they are copied from Western Airliners. This is just a poor man's Airbus A340.
discokidda 3 years ago
It has absolutely nothing in common with A340. First of all, il-96 made its first flight when a340 was in early development. Secondly, if 2 aircrafts have wide fuselage and 4 engines, it doesn't mean they are the same.
Shmacktop 3 years ago 3
since it is a modified il-86 it is a 70s plane.
zipacna1980 3 years ago
Following your ideas, all airplanes are just modifications of the basic scheme patented by the Wright brothers, so, are all of them 1900´s planes?

But I don´t undestand, stage IV with this noise? Not´s comparable with western planes.
RicardoRalifer 3 years ago
Nope it is, the PS-90A engines are most comparable to the Rolls-Royce RB211, emmisions, noise, and fuel consumption are similar to western airliners. There is an improved version, the PS-90A2. Its even better!

I think the Il-96 is cheaper since it has a fewer parts count, and as you know, most of the time fewer parts count means better reliability.

russian junk; technology stolen from the West
tom123ek 3 years ago
Check your facts before you say this. I was supposed to fly in an Aeroflot B-777 to Moscow, but was provided with an Ilyushin Il-96 and it was better than the American stuff they have. I actually prefer the Ilyushin over the Boeing 777, 767, 747 or Airbus A340, A330 or the A380. Ilyushin Il-96 was concepted as a Soviet plane in 1986 but is however Russian. Nothing about the plane was stolen from the west. You owe Ilyushin an apology.
tkaminsk 3 years ago 8
@tkaminsk : Agreed! Lots of ignorant American and other anti-Russian westerners still trapped in the mindset of the Cold War truly believe that the Soviets/Russians "could not develop" their own technology and that "everything was stolen from them geniuses". What a load of crap, it´s useless to waste time with these barely literate fools. In many technological aspects the Soviets not only matched the Americans but surpassed them, while in other aspects the Americans certainly were better.
vonkaunaz 1 year ago 39
@vonkaunaz

As an ignorant American but very not anti-Russian, I always admired the Russian/Soviet Aerospace industry and its achievements. You are right about the cold-war mentality. I am a veteran of that war and I can tell you most of us had and still have a healthy respect for what you cats did. I am very happy that those times are behind us.
roddymoore 3 months ago
@vonkaunaz Why then did all eastern european carriers change their soviet built equipment for boeing and airbuses after 1989, except for Interflug that went oot of business?/ even today Aeroflot uses mainly western equipment. SAoviets didn t co-operate with others, they were suspicious and secretive which was nt positive in termsof technological development. Its like Airbus would cordon off their Hamburh and Tolouse factories and try to do everything themselves.
