I think the first commercial was with two old guys in a pick-up truck. One guy kept asking him what the name was and the other kept saying a "watcha-ma-callit". It was similar to the "who's on first" Abbot and Costello bit.

I ate those Whatchamacallit candy bars every chance i got when i was a teenager back in the 80's, but when Hershey put caramel in those bars, i immediately gave them up since i had a distaste for caramel.

The scary thing is i remember that and other crazy candy commercials. BTW does anyone know if there was ever a Bar-Six commercial. Bar-six was and still is my all time favorite chocolate bar. i wish they would bring it back. Instead i have to settle for a Kit-Kat.

I've tried Bar-Six and loved it. It was and still is the chocolate bar to die for. Zero, i don't think so. Whatchamacallit, yes. I also loved a bar called a Danish which was a cookie waffer covered in white chocolate with strawberry drizzle on top. There were alot of great bars that just don't exist anymore. it was part of my childhood because i would always pick one up at the corner store after school.

Sorry kids, all wrong. Whatchamacallit came out in the 70's. If you do a search on YouTube you'll see some of the earlier spots, including two little leaguers arguing over the name.

In the 80's they added caramel to it, and sort of "re-introduced it".
