I had this procedure done to me, with an ultrasound I might add. I had it done on the ward under local anesthetic, it's no biggy for the patient but after doing a bit of research on this procedure it seems to be quite a milestone for medical students; with whom I take my hat off to.
THIS is a very dangerous procedure and need to be done only by a very experienced hand and that also as a last resort. I have seen patient to die whike doing it. IT IS NOT FOR THE NOVICE.
I was scheduled for bypass surgery until I learned that this would be done while I was fully conscious. Their is no way that I could lie still for this and they refused to do it after I was asleep.

@MrTahadar there is an easier way, less risky. Have you heard of ultrasound?

We always try with a small syringe with water before inserting the guide wire. This prevents many unforseen complications .
