Still remember the original 7" Single (remember those) it had the words "Play Loud" stamped on the A side and "Play Even Louder" stamped on the B side.
Dont judge this band by a perfomance on TOTP....(for our American friends Top of the Pops was a main stream pop music show in Britain, think Amarican Bandstand and you get the picture) just take a look at the audience, they have not got a clue how to dance / react to this. Eddie and the Hot Rods were with out doubt the coolest, most energetic band on the planet at the time. Anyone remember the Lyceum gig wirh the Buzzcocks in support? Panama1958 you nailed it with your comments.
Saw 'em at Reading Festival in the 70's and went to see 'em in Rudi's Bar (Rotherham) last month, still sound great. Oh and we see 'em every year at the Rock n' Blues festival at butlins (Lincs). It's a pity they got pigeon holed as a Punk band as some of their album tracks could have been rock classics.
From the classic Live At The Marquee EP from 1976. Other tracks were 96 Tears and Gloria/Satisfaction. They were a high energy "pub" rock band who got included in with early punk rock...mostly 'cos the punk rock bands hadn't made any records at this point. Still great stuff though!
more rockabilly!!!!!!!! help!!!! who played "gibosn martin fender" of the 70's 'punk ' bands? rockabilly rave in vegas...hope it's not some retro show...
i'm sorta surprised at what these cats look like. never seen 'em till i just watched this vid. but their album 'teenage depression' was a huge hit with my friends in calgary, alberta back in the late 70s. and especially this tune... i had just assumed they were full on punks. don't matter tho, great tunes.
I loved a review at the time that said it was a race to see who could get to the end of the song first. Always played it LOUD before going out on Friday night
contd..We got to Canvey and saw Barrie and the boys in a cafe. So drenched we had to get a B&B rather than rough it. Now we had no beer money so we were sober- a new experience for us both! Saw The Hot Rods, Dr Feelgood, Dave Edmunds and Rockpile, Plus the Gypsy Rock Squad (Who were they? I Dunno either). We had a great night and I do believe I've still got the badges from that night. Sad? No!
Hi there, must tell about a trip to Canvey Island, Essex c.'78: me and my mate hitched from Bham, got stuck in a rainstorm in London, went into a pub, saw a mad free striptease before setting out again once we had dried off a bit.
How does it feel to make an idiot of yourself on youtube...where you can't delete you post? Hey Mr genius...google 'Get Out Of Denver' ...lyric or what ever...."Lyrics and music by Bob Seger' Hahahahahahaha! Nice one McChump. Ha!
Hahahahahahahaha! way to make an idiot of youself. I suggest you google 'Get Out Of Denver'...go to the Live Bullet page and check out the songwriting credits. Way to make a douchebag out of yourself. Can't delete you stupid comment either. Hahahahaha!
Wow...you must have an advanced degree from an institute of higher learning to have such a fine grasp of the english language. Hahahahahahahahaha! Putz. Dave Edmunds.Hahahahah!
Sorry pal...I had someone call me a retard for correctly identifying the writer of this song. All you've done is extend this thread. Plagerized my thread for the word douchebag too.
I see you graduated from the same fine institution as McChump. My, you are such a bad ass. Everyone who reads this post will be very impressed with you super tough language. You know, I've heard guys who talk tough behind a keyboard are actually big sissy boys. Have you heard that?

To compare Status Quo to EATHR is like comparing Oasis with the Beatles. This has energy to burn.

I disagree... This is the best version. I couldn't listen to Bob Seger unless I was in a coma.
Chzlog 9 months ago 6
@Chzlog ROFL, Seger's version is far superior... However, to give credit where it's due, this is a decent version.

fantastic

This one's ok. Status Quo is ok at this one aswell, but the very best is Bob Seger's.. by far!

Absolutely smokin' version. Being a hometown Detroit boy I grew up on Bob Seger, and this does him proud. ♫

I haven't seen this since it was on TOTP in '76. Pretty much changed my music tastes there and then.
I couldn't believe the energy. Barrie Masters running up and down like a man possessed.
I also went out and this right away. I wore it out and later had to get a second copy.
They were 'my' band until the Jam came along about 9 months later.
Jorrox 2 years ago 3
@Jorrox - oh come on -
who's your favourite betwen the Jam and Eddie and the hot rods? -
it's gotta be the Hot Rods!

marquee '77. happy days......

In that glorious Summer of 76 I walked into 'Spinning Disk' record shop in Sunderland and he put this track on as I was looking through the singles.
I couldn't believe how the playing was so 'rough' and sort of 'untogether' for the time (especially the stops) - but I loved it!
I bought it there and then.
I couldn't contain my excitement when I was telling my mates about it.
I became interested in the pub rock bands of 76 - The 101ers, The Bishops etc.
But they were all crap compared to this.

Check out Skydog's video of this song. It's so much better with the harmonica. I guess no one could replace Lew Lewis?
