  • I keep getting a "cannot allocate memory" error when trying to format the SSD and IDK ehat to do someone help

  • Great easy to understand video.

  • all the Australians sound like pedophiles :L

  • I got the crucial RAM but when I install When i use the Crucial it freezes on startup but when i use one crucial and one default ram it works?

  • i need help can you deliver to Australia from the apple store

  • Comment removed

  • i am very paranoid about touching the internals on my 1500$ computer, but its slowing down, getting that spinning rainbow wheel all the time... will 8gb of ram create more heat? thats really the only thing i could see going wrong and causing problems... thanks

  • thanks

  • did you lose anything after changing the ram?

  • @ongjared - No. All data is stored in the hard drive, so you do not lose any data by upgrading your RAM.

  • @iftibashir thanks, I ordered the same kit. Apple was trying to sell me something I bought for $45 for $400 lol

  • @ongjared yo I know, I got the same kit. I'm very happy, my mac is even faster now thanx for the vid.

  • What editing software?? (For video)

  • What editing software is used in this video?

  • Great video! I am looking at upgrading my 15" MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) from 4GB to 8GB. crucial.com website is good as you can download the scanner and it tells you exactly the RAM you need. 8GB (2 x 4GB) is coming out as £35 - does that seem good?

  • Just used this kit today to upgrade my 13 mbp 2010 to 8gbs. Found it pretty easy for a first time self upgrader. Seems to be working well so far seems a lot snappier. Eve online ran smoother. These kits are cheap so give it a go. Just be sure to earth yourself first. An easy way to do this is touch an unpainted metal pipe on a radiator as they are earthed (or they are in the uk)

  • now this is the REAL mbp

  • Hi! Is this RAM especially made for Mac?

  • is it possible to put 16gb ram??? on a macbook pro

  • @360ThickQuinking360 yes it is possible but pointless the 64 bit OS from Apple has similar characteristics to windows7 in that for most programs there is a maximum amount of RAM your operating system can address this is about 8 GB, there are ways around this for certain this for modified versions of windows (sometimes stable sometimes not) and certain programs but basically the limit is 8 GB and if you add more your wasting your money

up it to 8 gigs and move on.

  • Hey I'm planning on purchasing this, but I like to use Windows a lot for gaming. How does the Crucial ram function with Windows 7?

  • Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial - made the job an absolute doddle (and gave me the confidence to do it in the first place!). My MBP is a lot happier now!

  • Do i need to backup any saved data, apps, an things like that before i switch RAM?

  • @MrWiddit nope only for your hard drive.

  • after upgrading to 8gb have you managed to get 512mb allocated for the graphics card like the 2011 model??

  • thank you so much for the video

  • Thanks mate...your video was very easy and helpful...I did exactly the same like you...upgraded to 8GB, exactly the same brand...!!

  • Is this Single or Dual sides?

  • Question!!! I'm sorta new at this, I was watching another video about upgrading your ram and when he went to reboot his computer after installing the new ram he pressed a few buttons (i can't remember what they were). he said it had something to do with resetting the ram. Is that something you HAVE to do?? Thanks!! :)

  • @BeautyMarked86 - No I dont recall doing anything like this. I just upgraded and switched on!

  • @BeautyMarked86 I think he meant resetting the NVRAM and PRAM. I think you press Command, Option, P, and R when the macbook starts up to reset.

  • @TheBoomdaka ahh, so is this something i'm suppose to do after installing my new ram? Again, i'm kinda new at this so forgive my ignorance, lol thanks!

  • @BeautyMarked86 Well you don't have to, it will still work without the reset but for cleaniness sake it is recommended.

  • can't decide between crucial or owc modules!

  • Great video! wouldn't have been able to do it without you..

  • nice arm hair

  • Nice video there fella!!

  • speak up my child....I can barely hear u

  • where did you buy the ram cards? I want to upgrade mine, want to fine a reliable source.

  • @Sl3yer1o7 ...try actually watching the video...

  • Comment removed

  • @Sl3yer1o7 Erm... what in that comment was douchey in any way? And I obviously watched the video, otherwise I wouldn't have told you to watch the video...

  • @Sl3yer1o7 Crucial's website

  • @camvvti thanks, I am already buying them from new egg.

  • Very good video. It was very clear and concise. I have the same MacBook Pro and ran into problems using Final Cut Pro X. I was told to try upping the ram from 4GB to 8 GB before installing Lion OS to fix the problem. You can go wrong with more ram and hopefully I won't need to upgrade to Lion just yet. Thanks for the vid!

  • hey is there any point or any noticeable speed boost from using 8GB rather than 4GB and how big was the SSD and how much did u buy it for

  • @iphonepunker Hey man, i wanted to ask the same question, did you find out if there is a big difference if i upgrade from 4gbs to 8gbs of RAM? :)

  • @matthew1245

a bit faster the multi tasking has sped up and i seem to be getting a lot better FPS 40 to 50 it was 20 something and my game look a bit sharper the ram im using now is Corsair very quick hope this helped

  • @iphonepunker awesome, if you dont mind me asking what game are you playing? I was looking for the upgrade in Diablo 3 when it comes out... and i used to play wow a few months back, and my fps was terrible, so i felt like it needed a boost.

  • @matthew1245 well in windows bootcamp i have fallout New vegas, Dead space 2, Dawn of war 2 Retribution, Crysis 2 and on Mac i have Dirt 2, starcraft 2 and minecraft i dont like WOW so i cant really tell you if it runs better but i do now the games work for me But if u are using a Mac ur CPU has no be over 2Ghz (if it a core 2 Duo) cause the CPU could lag u up big time i used to a MB air 11" (core 2 duo) 1.6 4GB ram and played starcraft 2 but online it would lag up under a small bit of pressure

  • @iphonepunker Yeah I got bored of wow pretty quickly, it wasn't as fun as my friend said it would be, regardless, i have a intel dual core processor 2.33 GHz. I also have a 250gb HDD, not SSD, not sure what you have, but I was also told that i should upgrade to a 120gb SSD drive instead of using my HDD. Do you have an SSD (Solid State Drive)?

btw thanks for all of this info :)

  • @matthew1245 no prob iv a 60GB OCZ vertex 3 SSD on my desktop PC unbelievably fast worth €120 and 1TB HHD for media storage but my MacBook pro is a 13" 2009 intel core 2 duo 2.53Ghz 8GB DDR3 and iv a seagate 500GB SSD Hybrid drive €80 it uses 4GB SSD on a 7200 rpm HDD and it nows what programs to u use the most on boosts it with the SSD + it uses SSD for boot up so it has all the good of SSD with the capability of HDD of 250GB or 500GB (seagate momentous XT SSD hybrid)

  • thank you very much for this video. just bought my 8 gb of ram from crucial(dot)com. can't wait!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Can i get more ram the that? like.. a lot more?

  • Keep doing your videos this was a massive help

  • great upgrade review and great advice thank you

  • kingston ram is the best

  • You make it look so easy. The last time I attempted this, the clip broke and it would not hold the RAM. I had to fight Apple to repair it under a tier 1. I just ordered crucial memory the other day to handle Lion and Parallels and I am tempted to try again. I really wish the Apple store would assist to install 3rd party RAM. Who the hell wants to spend 400 bucks for Apple RAM

  • Will I lost the warranty if I do that? I want to upgrade my ram and the hdd but the warranty is my problem

  • Crucial Is the best and cheap solution against apple who sell this same 8GB kit for $400+Tax and possible they will supply you with the same modules you can get from crucial.com for about $52

  • My 2010 i5 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro come from manufacturer with this same Crucial/Micron RAM modules as OEM, so everyone can 100% trust in Crucial modules for your MacBook Pro upgrade needs

  • Can I just buy.another 4gig samsung ram?

  • i wish i had a macprobook.... D:

  • @Orjmart thanks a lot man. And if I'm buying the ram does it have to be the same as my old ram? My old ram is 1333mhz? I think. Do I have to get the same?

  • How much of a difference will this make? Will the computer be faster?

  • @awaud55 Yes and no. Depends on what you see as "faster". RAM (Random Access Memory) is like you Harddrive, it stores data, but the data on the RAM sticks is only storing memory untill the computer/ a program is shut down, then the data disapears. If you have more/faster RAM, yes the computer will use less time finding the information you need.

  • how much dose this cost and will it work with the 2011 model macbook pro?

  • I got the macbook pro mid 2010, and I rly want to upgrade it. Since my sister is getting the new 2011 model, my macbook will be like a pussy beside a lion. So its time to give my little citty some steroids, yes I mean SSD!!

But the thing which holds me back, is.....do mac os lion support trim??

I can clearly see that your macbook has SSD, but it wont last long if the mac dont support trim. Plz tell me about your experience with SSD with or without trim!!

  • Thank you. Now I only need some cash for a good SSD.

  • i've bought 8gb for 50$, very good deal, and if is still not clear, mac osx is a 64bit OS-only, if you install lion, even iTunes, finder and safari are 64bit application.

32bit osx doesn't exist anymore, from several years

  • mac osx doesn't have problem to recognize more than 6gb of ram, is a 64bit osx, from years ! all mbp (core 2 duo at least) can handle 64bit kernel, and anyway even in 32bit kernel, mac can access to more than 4gb of ram, and run both 32 and 64bit application, the only limit in that case, is that 32bit apps can't access more than 4gb of ram, even if you got more in your system, not a big issue, and anyway you can find 8gb of ram for 60$ or less..so if you can go for it.

an SSD would be good too

  • how much money did you save?

  • Cool...u even upgraded your hard disk

  • @madhanrajan357 - Upgraded to a SSD. Video is in my channel ;o)

  • Comment removed

  • Will upgrading from 4gb to 8gb ram cause the computer to heat up more?

  • @gfireblitz2 no , but dont go over 6gb , or else your computer might not work because it wont recognize it, but i wouldnt even recomennd going to 6gb, 4gb is the max you should need. at 6gb it still might not be recognized

  • @marineman825 but the apple spec says the macbookpro can run on 8gb ram.

  • @gfireblitz2 yea it can run on 8gb but it wont be recognized by the operating system and ur computer will be very verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry slow

  • @marineman825 False. False. False. If your not running it on OSX-64bit it's not going to be pretty.

  • @bethberger19 no, your wrong, i am a computer technician, i know what im talking about

  • >Crucial

    MAH NIGGA

  • where can i by this

  • oops i didnt watch the whole video >.<

  • does this void your warranty?

  • Do you need to take off the stickers off the module?

  • @shazie1436 - No, they don't affect its use whatsoever.

  • @iftibashir actually, as the module heats up, everything that it's in contact with it will make the heat dispersion harder, plain physics. i know it has a minor effect, but it's not 0 :)

  • @shazie1436 The kingston ram voids the warranty if you take off the sticker. it says it on the label btw

  • @shazie1436 .....is that a real question?

  • I have the same laptop, same processor speed, can now you please tell me where you bought those chips from? I need those exact ones. Thank you

  • @Jaz7s They're from Crucial.com Go there and it will guide you on the homepage to your memory if you specify the model and all that.

  • Great tutorial is this install the same for the 09 Mac book pro?

  • Comment removed

  • can we use any company's ram? or is there limitations in which we hab to use a certain company's

  • heh it works! Thanks for the great video! It was great moral support.

  • OK if I do not reply in 30 minutes or so that means I did not make it :)

  • Dont you want to take the stickers off the RAM? Wouldn't they melt if it gets hot?

  • Can I put the 4gb ram of my 2010 MacBook pro onto my 2009 MacBook pro?

  • wow solid state.... how big is it? i'm installing a 500gb hybrid seagate hope it gets faster

  • Hi i got 8 GB and 2.53 , u think is it fast or slow ?

  • Fantastic Video... thanks.

  • @sirgobbleburger - Yes you can, but why pay fr something thats pretty easy to do yourself.... ;o)

  • @iftibashir Lol i have the shakiest fucking hands on the planet so i don't think it's smart for me to replace ram myself.

  • @iftibashir its free for apple to do it.

  • @iftibashir Watching These Videos May Give Me Confedance to Do This on My Mac Because idk i have carpet should i Do This Where i Have tile to avoid static

  • Very helpful, cheers. Are you from yeovil by any chance?

  • Why would you need to upgrade to 8GB? Sounds like a waste of money.

  • how much is it

  • do you have to reinstall mac os x and will you will obviously lose everything you save before, right?

  • @dshiznit148 - No. With RAM you lose nothing. Its only with a hard disk upgrade that you need to reinstall the operating system and all your data etc.

  • @iftibashir Wrong. You can clone it. But I think it would probably be best to start fresh.

  • @TheNubbbler - True - if you know what you're doing you could clone using SuperDuper for the Mac, or something like CloneZilla for the PC.

  • @dshiznit148 if you have to ask this question, you're better off paying someone to install RAM for you

  • @al821 it was a dumb question and immediately after i posted the comment i was like "why the fuck did i ask that?"

anyways i already installed two 4gb 1333ghz ddr3 modules in my MBP :)

  • it's not that big of a deal, but touching the gold connectors on ram, isn't recommended.

  • good work bro, well shot and informative. Cheers.

  • good work bro, well shot and informative. Cheers.

  • Thanks ! alot!

  • where did you get the screwdriver?

  • do they give u the screwdriver?

  • how many can you put into your mac?

like can u put 4 chips in so u get 16gb ram?

  • @x0Brown0x - It only accepts 2 modules - as most standard laptops.

  • @x0Brown0x Most if not all the 2009 - 2011 macbook pro's take 8gb max, and the memory is installed in pairs so no, you could early put in 2 4gb sticks of ram.

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,

  • thank you so much for the video. upgrading lol...btw what is the max capacity for ram you can upgrade for MBP 2010 verson?

  • @a250ml The max capacity of RAM the 2010 models can take is 8GB. The 2011 models however can take up to 16GB.

  • Great video.

  • hey here help

is it possible to upgrade the graphic card

  • @jatinkool - No, not in this system.

  • hahah you but shit ram!!! Crucial is one of the worst and cheapest

  • @gaivoron - thank you for your such wise words.......not.

  • @gaivoron You are an idiot

  • @gaivoron what do you suggest then?

  • @gaivoron monkey speaking :)

  • @gaivoron - Which is why they are one of the largest memory manufacturer's I guess??

  • @iftibashir I was wondering how much storage the SSD in the macbook in this video contains. Plzz answer ;D

  • @BoStaThij - Its a 240GB Vertex 2 - check my other videos for the installation and initial review/speed tests.

  • Great video! Thank you! :)

  • Sorry if its dumb a question but... i'm thinking on buying the Newest Macbook Pro and it says they're ram its 4GB 1333MHz.. so i see in your laptop after you upgraded it said 8GB 1067MHz... So in my case it wud be From 1333MHz to 1067MHz.. would I be actually 'downgrading' performance? Thank you.

  • @erickadrianvf - The difference in speeds would b so minimal that you wouldnt notice any difference - we are talking milliseconds here!

  • @erickadrianvf yes, IF the 2011 model accepts the 1067 sticks, then it would be a downgrade, however there is a big chance that it won't accept the 1067 sticks.

your best bet is to just find the appropriate 1333 model =]

  • i am happy with my 4 gb ram thanks dear nice video

  • what is the link to this exact ram? (on amazon maybe)??

  • thanks mate. i trusted you cause you were british <3

  • Great tutorial man! Thanks

  • can u use a 2gb ram and a 4gb ram at the same time ?

  • @zabakkabou Yes

  • @zabakkabou You can but it is a very bad idea, strains your computer, and runs slower than just 2x 2GB (4GB total) since it is an uneven amount in each slot.

  • 8GB ram !!! I meant to say.

  • I just upgraded my MacBook pro 13" ram 8G CRUCIAL £ 71.99 UK

  • @earlbee31 from where?!

  • im a noob. can u guys tell me what kind of ram that macbook pro use? reply me asap

  • @deepseventeen they use DDR3 204-pin just go to crucial.com and download there scanner and itll tell you what kind of ram to buy

  • I have to do that just to upgrade the RAM?

at least with my Dell Laptop I can just unscrew a small trap door with the RAM inside it, I can also remove the battery too.

    fucking apple products.

  • hi . i have a question i just upgraded my ram from 4 to 8 GB , when i search websites it fast but when i play youtube videos why the videos so slow ? can u tell wat i need to do ?

  • @bunnathchan your internet speed is slow.

  • can you upgrade the graphics card?

  • Comment removed

  • @HumzaAhmed155 - Apple manual states that HDD and RAM are user serviceable parts - hence as long as you do not break anything while performing the upgrade the warranty on the rest of the system remains intact. So yes, warranty is still active on all other components. RAM is under warranty with its manufacturer directly.

  • @HumzaAhmed155 Wrong.

  • do you know if it will be okay for me to upgrade my mabookpro 13' 2.66ghz ram and put the old ram into my macbook 2.4ghz 2010 polycarbonate? and very helpful thanks.

  • mate, you do know you have upgraded your computer with 16 gb of ram!

  • @MaxMcDuff - No, I have upgraded with 8GB of RAM - 2X4GB modules.

  • gonna be a very very fast computer

  • does this effect the warranty

  • @musicjustforfun1 - The HDD and RAM are user serviceable parts - hence upgrading them DOES NOT affect the warranty.

  • wow

    £320 for 8GB of RAM

  • @03mgarrettt I payed €85 for my 8 GB kit.
