  • ой, беда, беда....

  • incredible I never seen that o_O

  • Объект 279 создавался на случай ядерной войны, так как взрывная волна огибала его корпус, так же он может плавать, у него была броня 289 мм и мощное нарезное орудие - 130 мм. Отличный показатель для того времени.

  • look at its armour :) you'd have been hard pressed to get any round to penetrate ......... awesome tank and i certainly wouldn't like to find out about its guns characteristics firsthand cos its a meaty mo'fo' :) great vid

  • IT LOOK LIKE A HAT WITH A CANON AND TRACKS! :O

  • troyanov

  • It looks like a UFO on tracks.

  • @IiiERT this will be in WOT lol

  • not a heavy tank its a medium light tank because of the small armour cannon size and its shear small size compared to all other tanks.

  • @Xramas Actually this would be classed as a heavy tank because of the gun size (130mm) and the thickness of the armour 269mm and 305mm. It says so in the description that these were the sizes (for example the Tiger tank is a "Heavy" tank but had the 88mm gun, which is considerably less than the 130 mounted on this tank). It would no way be classed as a medium or light tank.

  • @TRUExSIGHTS well by todays standards the tiger would be fairly light compared to modern main battle tanks.

  • @RoMMeL1337ak47 That's only because modern tanks have better armour and on the whole much larger calibre guns. In it's time, to put it in perspective, the Tiger was one of the heaviest tanks around (apart from the King Tiger and the IS2. The Pershing was a competitor aswell but didn't see enough service to accurately judge). Of course by todays standards it would be a fairly light tank. You would say that about a Mustang or a Spitfire aswell, so its all about perspective.

  • @Xramas I think heavy, medium or light tanks would be classed by their theoretical role in design and its actual combat capabilities. For example, a light tank is a tank that designed mainly for reconnaissance, support infantry... Tank fight isn't its main role. So it must be light equiped, light armored enough for this role, but must has excelent speed and maneuverability.

  • love the Command & Conquer music :D it fits so perfectly well...and indeed a pretty scary big tank, luv the design

  • The tracks are a superb target to cripple the tank.

  • @karthikbans hence it never saw action.

  • track protections... who needs it XD

  • @CE3EHbKA i think it will be in World of Tanks or let me check again the final tech tree of the game.

  • They should have painted it pink! Super gay heavy tank!

  • Love the Shout out on the music, Red Alert.

  • almost looks amphibious

  • @freelistic tank was made in 1959

    1959-1960.

    WW2 to 1945...

WoT: World of tanks puts WW2 tanks ONLY!

  • @ZAEEM2222 world of tanks = pre war tanks after war period and the war period tanks

  • @ZAEEM2222 no they dont t-54 was way after ww2 it was around the Korean war Patton came out way after ww2 same with IS4 IS7 they are not even real tanks lol they were just a designs waiting of the approval that they never got T-28 T-95 and i can go on lol WoT just blindly thoughts in tanks i still like the game though =P

  • @ZAEEM2222 Wrong, WOT timeline is 1930s to 1950s

  • it's made for reflecting tank shells obviously

    T95 Kicks ass

  • I see the WoT forums full of threads asking for this tank... Damn...

  • @dragonfangalexander tank was made in 1959-1960. not during World war 2!

  • @ZAEEM2222 Like more than a half of the game tanks, so i don`t see the problem xD!

  • ok hell on weels! next a tank to carry a nuke into enemy terretory and detonate it. 10 in later the tank drives out savely!

  • it has that shape to help it on a nuclear strike

  • good song and the tank was for figthing nuclear wars

  • i would probobly be mad easy to disable cause of the exposed tracks. to kil it would be really really hard unless you hit it from the top.

  • @rage10rules it has 4 tracks tho so even if 1 got blown off it would still go, it looks anphibious but that shape is probably to deflect shellss away from the crew

  • whats this song name

  • @15jk2

    Hell March

  • @CyanideXCloud thanks

  • The tank's unusual track design is actually meant to allow it to drive on snow and ice more effectively. It was an arctic tank.

  • @Etimos It was russian tank...

  • @Chetanishe .... did you honestly just try to 'correct' me? Do you seriously think The Arctic is a fucking nation, like I was saying it was a Swedish tank or something? I KNOW IT'S A RUSSIAN TANK!

  • his tracks are his weakest point so thats why he never saw action

  • red alert music! yes!

  • пушка от объекта 704

  • @StevieChannel No matter the armor, big shell blow tanks, not need to pierce.

  • @PATRONSKiii

    yes you have to pierce.

Anti tank shells are basically a thin, hard penetrator rod (tungsten or depleted uranium) - if it doesn't penetrate, it doesn't do much damage.

  • @Suyamu No you haven't, massive shells blow tanks, that's it. IS-2 blowed tigers and panthers with its 122 HE shells, the weight and explosive power is sufficient to destroy equipement, kill crew or blow the turret. Do you think a abrams will resist a direct shot of 155mm ? No, anyway most of the destroyed tanks in irak were by big IED, made of artillery shells. The weight of an APFSDS is ridiculous compared to 152 or 130mm HE shell, if it doesn't pierce, it will not do anything.

  • @PATRONSKiii

HE shells are used against soft targets, not against MBT's.

IED's only work because they blow up underneath vehicles - tank's armor is strong in the front - top and bottom are usually not armored.

There are some models of the Leopard 2 that come with anti mine protection.

With HE hit against a tank's armor you can expect to damage it's optics, but the tank will not be critically damaged.

Anti tank weapons are all based on penetrator munition.

  • @Suyamu It's a sterile discussion, i gave you facts, you insist with theory, drop it.

  • @PATRONSKiii

    what facts?

    You're thinking up stuff.

  • @PATRONSKiii Thus, HE rounds can take out tanks. Though are less effective, especially with explosive armor that is designed to nullify HE rounds. Still, with a big enough round (155mm for instance) the pressure's bound to kill SOMETHING, be it completely crippling the tank's ability to see to even killing the crew with the hit or large pressure wave.

  • @TheUDF2

If by "explosive armor" you're talking about ERA (explosive reactive armor), then no, it's not designed against HE rounds - it's designed against penetrating munitions.

It's purpose is to change the path of penetrating core/rod of an armor piercing shot, so it doesn't pierce straight into the armor.

Unless your HE round is not as big as a small aviation bomb, don't shoot it at MBT's - that armor is there for a purpose.

  • @Suyamu Thanks for the correction. I was for some reason thinking about shaped charge rounds and how it projects molten metal into the armor to pierce it.

  • @TheUDF2

In that case you're right - but you're talking about HEAT (high explosive anti tank) munition with chemical energy penetrator.

Those are supposed to be disrupted by ERA as well.

  • @Suyamu & PATRONSKiii

HEAT ammo is meant to tear apart interior tank parts & to disable tank crew like shrapnels do. If it can penetrate armor it does it chemically trough burning reaction. ERA is meant to protect against HEAT ammo, only 4th and 5th generation ERA claims anti-penetration capabilities (It's very questionable) there are cases when penetrator did not activate ERA it usually activates on the power of HEAT explosion itself. It is like explosion against explosion.

  • @PATRONSKiii Actually, you're both right.

    Example:

The US uses two types of anti-tank rounds, the discarding SABOT and the HEAT. The Sabot is basically a thin tungsten dart that is designed to penetrate a tank's hull and spew molten METAL into the crew compartments and ammo storage areas.

The HEAT round (High Explosive Anti-Tank) is basically designed to do what it's name implies, blow the crap out of the armored skin of the tank, though these are generally used more on softer targets.

  • @TheUDF2 Thanks i know what is sabot or HEAT or HE or HEF or HEAT-MP. US use uranium sabot only, not tungsten. M829A3 is (on paper and probably really) the most powerful APFSDS, being the larger and longer possible and fully made of DU, not only the dart. The HEAT can't be considered as an explosive, it works totally unlike the classic HE, it creates a dart with an explosion. The blast zone is null, it works only on confined space, vehicles or buildings. USA uses it as a HE

  • @TheUDF2 because they don't have proper HE, they beleive than HEAT-MP is a marvellous round doing everything, but war in irak proved it is not. They definitely need a proper cheap ASS and usefull HE round like 125mm gun.

  • @PATRONSKiii & Suyamu

APFSDS is not meant to be too heavy like 125 or 152mm HE(AT), it's penetration ability depends on speed, hardness, density and mass of penetrator, not on caliber and mass of explosives it carries (APFSDS are usually sub caliber-ammo) western gun barrels are made of higher quality steel and thus is able to withstand greater pressures which gives penetrator higher velocity and more kinetic energy to penetrate armor.

  • Hide this from the world of tanks devs. More russian bias coming in.

    Armor turret. 319mm

    Armor front. 269mm

  • wow..thats impressive..very uniuqe design. any footage of this thing..??

  • силища....

  • amazing design

  • How can a prjectile could penetrate this armor , almost horizontal

  • @Sabuntr

That actually is the point of making a heavy tank, it shouldnt be able to penetrate the armor.

  • @sk1llblack buT ist unfaaair :@ :P

  • @Sabuntr

    lol yeah

  • @takarlor12 you bet so?, hmmm, can't say i do.

(besides their of different era's to that isn't even a valid Matchup anyway).

  • I freakn love the shout out to C&C Red Alert! Perfect music!

  • this doesn't look so tough i bet a M1A1 Abrams could blow the shit out of this UFO with a tank turret for a head >_>

  • @takarlor12 You kidding me? this thing wouldnt even need to shoot a abrams, it would drive right over it.

  • @takarlor12 the 130mm naval gun mounted on it will blow the shit out of the abrams

  • @takarlor12 lol abrams? do you realise the design of this tank is 50 years old?! also it's main purpose was to not flip over from a nuclear explosion lol..

  • @takarlor12 NICE TRY, TROLL!

  • @phdSloOd No realy it dosnt look inpressive to me dickface

  • @takarlor12

    Object 279 - 1959

    M1A1 Abrams - 1980

    I mean this.

    But still nice try, 7/10.

  • подпольная кликуха - Рикошетник)) ему же нельзя в лоб выстрелить(как и в борт).

  • Does anyone know if there is a 1/35th or 1/72nd kit available? Or, at least, good three view drawings?

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Танк мера Киева Черновецкого Л.М.

  • wholy shit russian tanks are the best but they never produce the radical designs!! this would be very mobile i bet

  • U F O

  • they couldn't get the UFO to fly, so they put it on 4 wheels, put a big a** gun on it, and called it a prototype tank, typical.

  • @PhildeCritic that's how they roll apparently...

  • вот это луноход!!!

  • That "hull" shape should maybe be brought back. The tracks would be shredded by an ied, but that undercarriage shape, if it had modern armor would protect the occupants very well. Was it made to be a boat as well?

  • Oh look, It's a UFO on tracks! With an enormous laser....I mean GUN.

  • This russian tank,It so good tank!

  • Looks like UFO with chainwheel

  • it is a mixture of a tank and a UFO?

  • Coronel Volgil have a lot of tanks like this in his base D:,but he simply destroy them all trying to kill snake lol

  • that thing is so russian

  • 0:29 looks like UFO

  • darth vader hat on wheels

  • 0:25 without the barrel it looks like a giant fishing hat

  • Прям НЛО с Пушкой! :)

  • that is a horrible design. soviet successes have always been rugged and durable almost simplistic design. too much plumbing over takes the drain. if that "plate was 270mm and turret 300mm where did 4 people fit, if it only carried 24 rounds, im guessing fuel and sundry is the same. 4 tracks is ridiculous, more to break, especially when the shape focus nuclear debris and shells downward toward tracks. its practically a wing, 50 ton panzer would only take 10psi to knock over, much less if had wing

  • @carpetmonk There was a reason for four tracks instead of two wide ones. If you look at tracked vehicle steering, you see two wide tracks would be impossible to use (shear stresses on the track pins would be enormous) It was also designed to work as a recovery vehicle, which necessitates such a low ground pressure in the russian slush. Also the 130mm high-velocity gun it has was a colossal tank killer at the time, it was the "88" of the 60s, and still is very lethal.

  • in 1959 the west didn't have any kind of tank able to go toe to toe with this thing.

  • @AlternateArtisan Their was one MBT in the Western Arsenals that could take this and the "IS-3" on at the time... the British "Conqueror Tank".

That and the later "Chieftan Tank" of 1966 was designed (intentionally) to surrvive in an Irradiated and Biologically contaminated Battlefield for days (to my knowlege it was the first ever Western Tank that could do all of that).

That said any Battle between Western and Eastern Heavy Tanks like these would have been one formidible fight.

  • @TSR1989LW Still, I don't know how they managed it, This thing has all round about 50mm more armour than the conquerer, has a bigger gun and is 7 tons lighter.

  • @AlternateArtisan Oh i agree this Tank is quite an Impressive MBT Prototype, a battle between the Conqueror and a "IS-3" (or the later uprated "IS-3M") would have been an formidible fight to say the least, so what a fight between the Conqueror and This would have been i couldn't say at all.

Although this unusual yet innovative design never saw production(which is a shame as it would heve been interesting to see it used in numbers), she shows that the Russian's can be/are surprisingly creative.

  • looks like a UFO xD

  • @Atemerus И правда похож))(Я не понимаю по английски)

  • @Jeka2012RUS dude on english pls.

  • @Atemerus And truth it is similar))) (I don't understand on English, I Russian))

  • @Atemerus Not really seeing you know what it is.

  • Ага такие танки должны были взлетать как летающая тарелка и пугать врагов одним своим видом, а потом жахать их, пока они думают что это НЛО

  • Very interesting..........

  • Nice song choice. "It will be a wasteland"

  • For Americans. This is a tank to break through the epicenter of a nuclear explosion. Streamlining reduces the impact of the shock wave, the almost complete lack of ground clearance has increased steadily.

Highly specialized thing. Or for some sort of races in the living room or a swamp.

The prototype - it is a prototype. Radiation dose of the crew after breaking through the fresh epicenter of a nuclear explosion would not allow him to fight more than 2-4 hours. Therefore remained a prototype

  • It wasn't designed for that at all. It just happens to be a perk to what it was originally designed to do. It was actually made to be able to drive through deep russian mud without getting stuck (The hull shape lifts the whole tank). It just happened to be perfect for surviving a shockwave :P.

It's more boat than tank really. It practically sails through mud that would stop any other tank lol.

  • the tank tracks would be an easy target...

  • Dear santa.....

  • мда.. наши походу точно готовились к пост Ядерной войне.

  • lol no

INfact, this thing has only 3 prototypes, can swim and puts almost 2 times less pressure on the ground that a human does.

It wasnt put on mass production because its middle tracks are a bitch to repair, especially in the swamps.

btw, these were produced specially for attacking Finland back in 60s.

  • Weak point: tracks

  • I would spend my whole life in one of them!

  • Command & Conquer Red Alert Music !!! Imba, those were days

  • Guess there would be no possibility to be "overrolled" by this thing...lol.....

  • Интересная машинка, оригинальная)

  • They use this tank to dig tunnels and pull heavy equipment

  • GO!!!!!!! RUSSIA!

  • ok all because of this music im going to play C&C red alert, and enjoy its crappy graphics!!!!! mwahahahahah!!!!! :D

  • that would be to easy to take out of a fight. get one shell to hit the treds and the tank is not goin anywhere. that shell would take them all out. thats y u see all tanks with two treds

  • wow inclined armor all around.... That's on hard tank to takes down if it gets to the battlefield...

  • the red alert 3 music just fits perfectly.

  • @antasaur

the music sure is nice but its not RA3, its RA1 music.

the RA3 music is horrible, they totally ruined it.

  • @hdhg4ever shure its not frank kapa(or whatever his name is?)

  • @antasaur ra1. frank klepacki. Classic HELL MARCH.

  • @redreaper2020 Hell yeah!!!!

that game was so fun........remember yuri's revenge? so many crazy units...........lol

this tank would fit right in.

  • @antasaur Frank Klepacki still made the majority of metal riffs in Red Alert 3.BTW its a good game >:(

  • @999cheetos999 agreed I never said it wasn't :)

  • Форма корпуса спроектирована против опрокидывания в случае ударной волны от ядерного взрыва.

  • 40 years old tank

  • старо как мир

  • It's a crawling saucer!

  • needs moar treads

  • all thx for the Russia

  • looks retarded lol ..but nice gun

  • WTF this is real?

  • this was made to be an effective weapon in a nuclear environment.

The barel is bigger but less effective to any modern barrel.

  • Remove tracks and you get tank-boat :>

  • Hmmm, cover the tracks and its great :)

  • okay the size of the barrel is intense size comparison to a sniper with the size of the tank this thing will FUCK YOUR SHIT UP

  • @xXxbwelitexXx 130mm :D bigger than a modern tank :D

  • @Cnupoc must be a bitch to load that gun!

  • they wold run from the look of that cool looking thing

  • red alert

  • i got to admit that it's awesome altho

  • 1 hit on tracks would easily pwn it :(

  • @znile1 like every tank.

  • @znile1 Hit in the beginning, and their 4

  • That's huge!

  • @dareta That's what she said.

  • Looks like 1950's UFO but have tracks... LOL

  • The only reason this tank wasn't adopted was because T-65 happened to be designed at the same time, and it turned out to be much less complex and cheaper to manufacture. And since the Soviets have always been all about mass production...

  • holly shit!!!!

  • Looks like a big piece of shit to me.

  • @iamtankman

a big piece of shit can't take a nuclear blast and keep on going...

    this tank can....

  • Great choice of song, LOL.

  • This prototype were developed to use as a MBT after a total nuclear war. It was developed in 60. 4 tracks provide him a superior mobility through ruins, and other impassable terrain after nuclear strike. Armor&interior protection systems, save the crew from radiation&biochemical hazard. After tests this Object 279 was admit having no future.

  • it looks kinda weerd

  • Koalitcia-SV < any vidoes on this.

  • I can imagine that every thing shot at that thing would bounce off

  • loose one track 3 to go!! XDD

  • this is so fucking stupid now the treads are an easy target not to mention the gun being unneccessary if u took the turret off replaced it with something else modify it for civilian purposes it would be bitchin

  • HELL MARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • All is fun and games until this thing breaks into your living room while you are eating KFC and watching friends on tv.....

  • @reddwarf50 There's worse news actually. Imagine this beast drove inside your living room and pissed you off. So you throw a tactical thermonuclear device near it. And amazingly, THIS tank withstands it and shows you a big fuck you with it's 130mm gun. Assuming of course that you've also withstood a thermonuclear mayhem nearby. Bad day.

  • хочу себе такую(((

  • That thing looks so corny and it looks like it could be taken down with a hand grenade taped to it. It has no skirt armor on the sides. With that many rows of tracks immobilizing it would be easy. Also the gun on that thing looks like a squirrel rifle.

  • @grim967 Side skirts do not protect the tank.... they dont do shit . The point of this vehicle is that it has angled sloped bodyshape to which all the missiles rounds will bounce off and wont be able to get the angle of penetration. This was a technology test vehicle not for mass production.
