After the launch of that "Mystery Missile," military activity over California has greatly increased. More jets, and military aircraft have flown over my home town in the past month than I've ever seen in a years time. If it was our own missile, why would the military find it necessary to increase activity? That's just my opinion, though.

Can anyone explain the object at 0:25? It appears to be a helicopter or plane. Notice the flashing light. It only flashes on it once so pay close attention. If the plane or helicopter was that close to that object, why isnt whoever was on it coming forward to identify if this was a missle or a plane? They was practically on top of it. I do not think this was a UFO. Or for that matter an airplane. I do believe its a missle.

Just pay attention to that horizontal cloud lit by the sunset. When the object and its trail is near that cloud, it's bright because it's being lit by the sun. When it's "above" and to the right of that cloud, it's in shadow (sun has set behind it). If it were indeed climbing like a rocket, this upper trail would be brightly lit up by the sun.
Clip 3 (0:14-0:18): Probably 3rd chronologically. It's continuing eastbound, away from the sun. No bright reflection here. A rocket plume would be REALLY bright. Notice it's still traveling in the same direction. A rocket/missile accelerating up and out into orbit would have a signature "arc" in its trajectory. First three clips looks like it's traveling at the same speed in all three.
Clip 4 (0:18-0:25): Aircraft is further west, still catching sunlight near that cloud.
I just realized this particular video is spliced together from 3 or 4 separate clips, probably from same camera.
Clip 1 (0:00-0:10): Probably 2nd clip chronologically. Aircraft has passed east of the setting sunlight. Notice no "flame" or "reflection" in this clip.
Clip 2 (0:10-0:13): 1st clip chronologically. This frame is zoomed in very close to that horizontal cloud lit up by sunset, which is visible in Clip 1. Notice the flash as it's still catching sunlight at this point. Not plumes.

Bad title. This is not the full video. This is several clips of a video spliced together from a clip that is around 10 minutes long. If CBS released the full video, it would be obvious what this is because you can't film a missile for 10 minutes. Certainly not an ICBM . . . CBS = Complete Bull Shit.
Freeze the video at 4 seconds. Notice the distinct twist of the exhaust plume about a third of the way from the bottom. That's a missile. You should be able to dig up another just like this somewhere on YouTube. Then what really bugs the heck out of me is that the editor spliced-in at later times of this event, other shots of what looks like the same contrail - see the video at :11 to 0:14 sec, and again :17 to :24 sec, then all the way to the end. That plume seems more straight.
1. Nobody reported hearing rocket launch noise. I heard plenty of launches from my house 20 miles away from Kennedy Space Center--made windows rattle!
2. Look up "Twilight Shuttle Launch". For an actual missile, the Sun would light up the higher-altitude smoke, not the smoke closer to the ground. In the debated video, it's the "lower" smoke that's lit up by the Sun--because it's further west towards the setting Sun.
3. No pilots reported seeing a launch, just other planes.

Having grown up in LA, having seen many missles fired from Vandenburg (and I'm talking going way back to the early '60s), I can tell you that that was no commercial airliner nor stray clouds. It was most definitely fired - sea to air as opposed to contrails etc The air traffic that hugs the CA coast isn't running the direction this cloud is going anyway- which is north of Catalina and out to sea. I've NEVER seen a vertically contrail...especially one with a shiny ascending dot at the tip.

Depends on how far away you are watching it and the angle you watch it. The plumes are from a missile, thats obvious. and the objekt flies in a ballistik way. No aircraft would flie such a curious ballistik angel.

All I know is that rocket plumes are VERY bright. During the day, a rocket launch has caused me to literally SQUINT! And during twilight, the plumes really light up the sky. Not for a flash--it's continuously bright. In this video, it's not lighting up anything. The only light is from twilight.

I fly C-172's and Piper Warriors (when I have money--wife and daughter and still owning Merritt Island house is draining funds). Anyway, in the first few frames of this vid, explain why you think the lower-left clouds are brighter than the upper-left clouds. By clouds I mean the contrail/smoke trail (depending on what you believe). You seriously don't think those lower-left clouds are farther away, off towards the western horizon? They're much more hazy. It is because they're getting sunlight still.

@larsjake Yet the "engine burn" is but a small flash in this video. It's by no means continuous, like a real rocket launch. And, yes, it's traveling kinda fast--probably over 500 mph. My nephew used to ask me when watching a launch on tv, "Why is it going down?" Well, you can explain that. It's really going UP, but the camera's angle and its trajectory make it look like it's going down. Similar thing here. Looks like it's going UP, but it's actually coming towards the camera.

@larsjake I saw 11 shuttle launches, from inside KSC, Titusville, and Merritt Island. How can you tell how fast that object in the video is flying? It's flying TOWARDS the camera and a little to the right. If you have seen 9 Shuttle launches, have you seen any in twilight? The upper contrail becomes illuminated in sunlight while the lower smoke stays darker (in the shadow). This video is backwards! It's an airplane contrail and the lighter contrail is further west in the setting sunlight.

@larsjake Don't know, dude. All I know is that when you watch a Shuttle launch, it drops its boosters at just over 3,000 mph. That is only Mach 4.5 or so. After that, you don't see it so much. You just see a point of light for another minute or so--or five minutes for a night launch. By the time it reaches Mach 19 it's over 500 miles away.

The "mach19" thing was just a pseudointelligent way to put "really damn fast". @larsjake Okay, this may be a leap for you... but as a "rocket scientist" I can tell you that missiles and rockets do not reach orbit when launching towards the west. So if this was indeed a missile (I'm not condoning the idea), its intention was not to put a payload into orbit. Vandenberg launches its rockets to the south to put them into a polar orbit. Rockets launching from KSC point in a northwest to east-southeast heading.
@larsjake Most rockets launch to the east so that the Earth's rotation gives it a bit of an orbital "boost." That's why KSC is our primary launch facility. Nothing east of it but thousands of miles of ocean for spent rocket parts to land in. It just can't launch stuff to the south (rest of FL and Caribbean islands that way) or north (U.S. eastern seaboard). That's why we use Vandenberg for polar orbits.

I used to live just a few miles south of Kennedy Space Center...I would see launches like this for satellites and other communication satellites all the time. We always knew when a launch was...especially the Space Shuttle. Commercial aircraft, with the exception of the Concorde that has been retired, doesn't have flames that illuminate the jet engines like this video shows...nor do they go straight up in the air. airplane plumes: it just happens that from that specific geographical angle and atmospherical conditions, it appears to be that any airplane would be coming right at you, therefore the plumes would look entirely different; as for the 'missile' seen on the 8th, the only reason that the body of the object gleamed so brightly was because of the positioning of the sun and reflection off all the windows :) oh yeah, MUCH to slow for a missile :P

More jets, and military aircraft have flown over my home town in the past month than I've ever seen in a years time. Can anyone explain the object at 0:25? It appears to be a helicopter or plane. Notice the flashing light. It only flashes on it once so pay close attention. If the plane or helicopter was that close to that object, why isnt whoever was on it coming forward to identify if this was a missle or a plane? They was practically on top of it. Just pay attention to that horizontal cloud lit by the sunset. When the object and its trail is near that cloud, it's bright because it's being lit by the sun. When it's "above" and to the right of that cloud, it's in shadow (sun has set behind it). If it were indeed climbing like a rocket, this upper trail would be brightly lit up by the sun.

Clip 3 (0:14-0:18): Probably 3rd chronologically. It's continuing eastbound, away from the sun. No bright reflection here. A rocket plume would be REALLY bright. Notice it's still traveling in the same direction. A rocket/missile accelerating up and out into orbit would have a signature "arc" in its trajectory. First three clips looks like it's traveling at the same speed in all three.
Clip 4 (0:18-0:25): Aircraft is further west, still catching sunlight near that cloud.

I just realized this particular video is spliced together from 3 or 4 separate clips, probably from same camera.
Clip 1 (0:00-0:10): Probably 2nd clip chronologically. Aircraft has passed east of the setting sunlight. Notice no "flame" or "reflection" in this clip.
Clip 2 (0:10-0:13): 1st clip chronologically. This frame is zoomed in very close to that horizontal cloud lit up by sunset, which is visible in Clip 1. Notice the flash as it's still catching sunlight at this point. Not plumes.

Freeze the video at 4 seconds. Notice the distinct twist of the exhaust plume about a third of the way from the bottom. That's a missile. You should be able to dig up another just like this somewhere on YouTube. Then what really bugs the heck out of me is that the editor spliced-in at later times of this event, other shots of what looks like the same contrail - see the video at :11 to 0:14 sec, and again :17 to :24 sec, then all the way to the end. That plume seems more straight.

1. Nobody reported hearing rocket launch noise. I heard plenty of launches from my house 20 miles away from Kennedy Space Center--made windows rattle!
2. Look up "Twilight Shuttle Launch". For an actual missile, the Sun would light up the higher-altitude smoke, not the smoke closer to the ground. In the debated video, it's the "lower" smoke that's lit up by the Sun--because it's further west towards the setting Sun.
3. No pilots reported seeing a launch, just other planes.

Having grown up in LA, having seen many missles fired from Vandenburg (and I'm talking going way back to the early '60s), I can tell you that that was no commercial airliner nor stray clouds. It was most definitely fired - sea to air as opposed to contrails etc The air traffic that hugs the CA coast isn't running the direction this cloud is going anyway- which is north of Catalina and out to sea. I've NEVER seen a vertically contrail...especially one with a shiny ascending dot at the tip.

I think they just want attention. However, it did SERIOUSLY spook me for the first day! Read my comment above. No launch noise, "lower" contrail was brighter than "upper" contrail because "lower" was actually further west, still catching the setting sunlight--and no pilots reported seeing a launch.

All I know is that rocket plumes are VERY bright. During the day, a rocket launch has caused me to literally SQUINT! And during twilight, the plumes really light up the sky. Not for a flash--it's continuously bright. In this video, it's not lighting up anything. The only light is from twilight.

Then I moved to North Alabama to work on Ares (that didn't last long). Now I'm helping build a certain large aircraft. I fly C-172's and Piper Warriors (when I have money--wife and daughter and still owning Merritt Island house is draining funds). Anyway, glad your "jets" are cooled and we can seriously discuss this vid.

Anyway, in the first few frames of this vid, explain why you think the lower-left clouds are brighter than the upper-left clouds. By clouds I mean the contrail/smoke trail (depending on what you believe). You seriously don't think those lower-left clouds are farther away, off towards the western horizon? They're much more hazy. It is because they're getting sunlight still.

@larsjake Yet the "engine burn" is but a small flash in this video. It's by no means continuous, like a real rocket launch. And, yes, it's traveling kinda fast--probably over 500 mph. My nephew used to ask me when watching a launch on tv, "Why is it going down?" Well, you can explain that. It's really going UP, but the camera's angle and its trajectory make it look like it's going down. Similar thing here. Looks like it's going UP, but it's actually coming towards the camera.

@larsjake I saw 11 shuttle launches, from inside KSC, Titusville, and Merritt Island. How can you tell how fast that object in the video is flying? It's flying TOWARDS the camera and a little to the right. If you have seen 9 Shuttle launches, have you seen any in twilight? The upper contrail becomes illuminated in sunlight while the lower smoke stays darker (in the shadow). This video is backwards! It's an airplane contrail and the lighter contrail is further west in the setting sunlight.

Now, did ANYONE of the L.A Metro's 15,000,000 people report hearing a rocket or a missile launch??? ALSO, my parents could see Shuttle launches from their condo in Naples, FL--200 miles away! Did ANYBODY report seeing this "launch" from that distance? NO! You had to be in a specific location near L.A. to observe this illusion.

And trust me. The first day I saw that thing I thought hands-down it was a missile--I've seen plenty. I'm very upset at all news networks that continue to feed this frenzy, including Fox News.

@Knohltorious I agree, but I don;t think this is a contrail only because of the similarity to the shuttle launches at equivocal distances. Didn't mean to name call at all, but I get bombarded with this stuff all day. I don't know what it is but it will take more convincing for me to accept it is a whatever type airliner than it is a missile/spacecraft etc.... And I wholeheartedly agree that both sides of the media are making this in to a frenzy!

@Knohltorious I have also been around aviation my entire life, so i am always a bit more objective than subjective, I still don't know what it is, but I don't like the answers being played off or sensationalized, just what was it! Sorry for calling you liberal LOL, I am neither, but I know that one is worse. How fast it is moving is my perception of the video. The angle of attack did not seem right for the amount of speed it had for being a conventional aircraft. Then again it was a seedy video

@larsjake I see no sensation of speed in the video. I see no object, hence no reference to determine speed. It's impossible to tell how far away/high it is. I seriously question your idea of how fast it's going. You are correct--the video is poor. Why just the one video? Out of 15,000,000 people in L.A. area, we got ONE video? When Columbia disintegrated over Texas we got a fair number of vids because EVERYONE thought it looked odd. This was just a plane, looked weird from just this one angle.

@larsjake Don't know, dude. All I know is that when you watch a Shuttle launch, it drops its boosters at just over 3,000 mph. That is only Mach 4.5 or so. After that, you don't see it so much. You just see a point of light for another minute or so--or five minutes for a night launch. By the time it reaches Mach 19 it's over 500 miles away.

@Knohltorious Well, that was the first vid I watched, so I went on that. And there was another one I saw that showed it close up. The "mach19" thing was just a pseudointelligent way to put "really damn fast". Like I said, I have dealt with people saying Obama launched the missile to destroy the red states, to people saying it was jesus coming back to kill all the blue states LOL. So I do enjoy the fact that you are a normal person!

@larsjake Wow, that's the best compliment I've ever received online! Besides, I do NOT work for the government. Believe me, I know they hide things from us, and I don't trust them hardly at all. But I'm very frustrated and a bit upset that SO MANY PEOPLE are revved up about this and think it's a big huge conspiracy. I'm actually a bit scared by it. The simplest answer tends to be the correct one.

But no city was obliterated, and while I still remain skeptical on both sides.....if it was a missile where did it hit, and if it went in to orbit would there not be some evidence of it somewhere?

@larsjake Okay, this may be a leap for you... but as a "rocket scientist" I can tell you that missiles and rockets do not reach orbit when launching towards the west. So if this was indeed a missile (I'm not condoning the idea), its intention was not to put a payload into orbit. Vandenberg launches its rockets to the south to put them into a polar orbit. Rockets launching from KSC point in a northwest to east-southeast heading.

@larsjake Most rockets launch to the east so that the Earth's rotation gives it a bit of an orbital "boost." That's why KSC is our primary launch facility. Nothing east of it but thousands of miles of ocean for spent rocket parts to land in. It just can't launch stuff to the south (rest of FL and Caribbean islands that way) or north (U.S. eastern seaboard). That's why we use Vandenberg for polar orbits.

From what I know, advance technology already exist, but its not release to the public yet. For example, in some places, technology is release but here in US takes about a year or two to release it. Imagine that year or two, another technology is develope to even be better than the last one.

Its very obvious that this is a missle of some sort. But its not obvious what kind or where the destination was, I suppose we will know when a missle is launched back. The United States believes that they are the most powerful government in existence and they argueably are. But they need to realize the boundries. Lets say this missle was launched at russia and or china. We are screwed, World War III is right around the corner if we keep making big mistakes like launching pointless missles.

That's not an airplane, the contrail appears only when they fly very high, but that thing is going vertical and starts at a very low altitude or on the ground.
Seriously, nobody is buying that "airplane" shit. It's probably a missile test, and they should have invented anything else. I live 2 miles from an airport and never seen anything like that.

I lived in the dorms, closest to Campus Pt. @ UCSB. Vanderbuilt Airforce base was just North of us as the rocket flies and we saw many of these contrails and in different colors.

I used to live just a few miles south of Kennedy Space Center...I would see launches like this for satellites and other communication satellites all the time. We always knew when a launch was...especially the Space Shuttle. Commercial aircraft, with the exception of the Concorde that has been retired, doesn't have flames that illuminate the jet engines like this video shows...nor do they go straight up in the air. John Pike, of globalsecurity is an idiot for saying this is an aircraft.
