What i find interesting is the different choirs from everywhere at many levels do this song almost the exact same way. The choir i am in is doing it right not and it sounds a lot like what has been done here and we are on high school level. I just found that interesting and thought you might too
Repetition was normal in our group. If that lead me to dislike a song I'd probably hate everything we did. We repeated this song so much just to get the vowels correct that I think I was actually singing it in my sleep.
I just couldn't hate it... it was so much fun. though, I don't remember if the alto part was fun or not. I learned it then but have since forgotten.
GOOD VOWELS. too heavy of a sound though, soloist was awful too much vibrato and not the right voice for the song. the high note needed more support and needed to be lighter
Ok. Now I'm all about CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to the group and even to soloists, but saying something like that about a high school singer.... "awful"... is awful itself. You need to grow up. This young woman is a fabulous singer... This solo was not ideal for her voice and she was nervous, but check her out on WATERS RIPPLE AND FLOW. One of the most beautiful and expressive performances that I've EVER heard from a high school singer, and I've heard alot of high school singers. So, careful.
i commented on this song, this performance. not another. the solo in this preformene was much less than "good". I apoligize i forgot how warm and open the music industry was. You know, college adutions just have tea and cupcakes for every preformer, and a full ride.
Thank you James for your response and defense. I really do appreciate it! I will readily admit that this performance was not one of my best. I got thrust into this solo a few days before to replace another girl who was going to be out. Nervous might be an understatement when it comes to what I was feeling. I am also aware the the music industry is not all rainbows. Full Rides are hard to come by as are compliments, but constructive criticism is much more useful.
Calling a singer awful only gets them so far. Don't you think it would have been better to tell me something I could have done to make it better? Helpful comments from judges, directors, teachers, and even audience members have helped me a great deal. However, comments like "Awful." do nothing but set back the singer's self esteem. I'm not suggesting you molly coddle everyone, but I am suggesting you give actual advice. Help, don't hinder.
Caitlin, I thought that this was you but I wasn't sure. How are you? I watched one of your videos the other day of an aria ... wow. ;) Your voice has grown SO much. I hardly recognized you... you look and sound fantastic! Hope all is well. James
Thank you so much! Four years can do a lot... haha. I'm doing pretty great. I start to college this fall, after taking some personal time off. I'll be a history major with a music minor.
I hope things are going well with you and your family!

Lol, well, I was either a mezzo or an alto on it. Maybe it was the part that bothered me.
That and our choir wasn't good enough to do it and and we did it over and over again cuz it didn't sound right to the conductor. *eyeroll*
