thank you for posting this. although its a shame the poor thing died of the disease, now i have a knowledge of what this is. one another note, its silly how some people dont take the time to read all the uploader comments before posting their own.
Why the hell would you keep a koi together with an arowana. Arowama is way too agressive for a koi. And when a koi is stressed he will get sick! I'm suprised the arowana didnt eat him.
i found a goldfish being eaten by a grassnake, it was biting his head and trying to pull him out of the water as the fish was bigger than the snake. because we were watching the snake got scared and let go, 1 year later on the fish is ok despite having a fang in his brain, he has a mark on his head tho
one of my favorite fish has dropsy i caught it fast and treated it with and antibiotic by mardel called maracyn plus and a strict diet of small amount of frozen split peas and medicated fish food from jungle for bacterial infections for a few weeks and i cant belive it but the fish is ok , not excellent but alive after several months !
better to be a nerd than kill a fish by being a noob ;-; so sorry for that koi and dont call people names who are trying to help you to avoid future events... like your arowana.
because my fish have been in the pond, the only time i see them properly is at feeding time. even if the signs of dropsy go away, keep up the treatment for another 2 weeks, just to make sure it's gone. also you need to treat them as soon as you see the sighs.. if the infection gets too bad then chances are they will die. hope this helps...
i've had fish with dropsy too. about 3 in the 9 years i've had them... it's where the fish get's an internal infection or tumour and the scales stick out like a pinecone which is why dropsy is sometimes called pinecone disease. the best thing to do is to change the water, reduce their feed slightly and add some mediciene for internal infections to the tank. it's best to keep the fish away from the other fish, just incase it dies and spreads the disease.
@brownpawmedia i wanted to ask you..do you know what causes dropsy thanks...is it the water..food..we take care of our fish and want to aviod stuff like this thanks in advance
and YES it has dropsy, (also known as pineapple disease)
but that is a side-effect of the ulcer, fluids, end others are around the wound wich cause the dropsy.
when this was a little wound, it still would ave been easy to help. a little desinfectioned spray, on the wound. for a couple of times and it would be oke.
you should keep it in pondwater and feed it a large dose of sleeping pills. dropsy makes the scales stick out, it is due to hepatic faliure or similar, makes the osmosis in the fish with salt fresh fluids.
Ok, someone called me a fish nerd because I gave a lot of information about how to save the fish or others like it. If I'm a nerd that's ok. These creatures depend on us for everything. It's irresponsible and cruel to just be fascinated by their suffering and do nothing about it.
I have always wondered why people are so brave about saying shitty things when it's anonymous.
Please, people, if you're going to have fish, take care of them.
This fish has ulcer disease. Dropsy is an internal infection. Ulcer disease is caused by a fish being wounded by a parasite, giving a small opening for bacteria to multiply. Ulcer disease can be fatal, eating into the muscles and organs. You must isolate the fish, give tetracycline and antibiotic food, with perfect water conditions. An ulcer won't heal itself.
Bad water conditions or inadequate space probably caused this disease, so I try to improve its water and give it more space.
Didn't look like dropsy to me. Dropsy is only a symptom caused by an internal bacterial infection that makes the organs fail so it causes the fish to bloat, which causes the pineconing to occur. It just looks like the koi had a huge ulcer on it's stomach area.
Why the heck was he keeping a koi in a fishtank anyway?
It's just hard to tell from the video is all. The big ulcer is what catches the attention. But I'm still wondering why he was keeping a koi in an aquarium? He did know how large it was going to get right?

she ain't no fishnerd.
and if you knew more about koifish, you might inderstand her better.
for instance... koi fish can reach lengths of over a meter. about 50 different species in colouring. (this on is a sanke)
breeders in japan do everuthing to breed the perfect koi.
a price winner koi can have a vallue of 10.000 to 100.000 $
also this koi, should be treated with respect.

YOU ARE NOT A NERD!
koi fishes should be treated better.
people just take them and think there nice,
but koi can grow large end very fast. the least for a koi is 200 gallon,
a koi who is over 50 cm has to have at lewast 500 gallons.
it's nice to see other people to, who are conciddered.
