It doesn't get any better than this. I've got all kinds of music from our current era, but when I was 7 I first heard 1984 and it made me notice music. I still would rather listen to this than Killswitch.

There are many opinions surrounding this band, just as there were in the very beginning.One thing for sure, love them, or hate them, when this band was in it's prime (1978-1984), and even before they were signed, no one, I mean no one, could touch these guys. As a whole they were an unstoppable force. There will never, ever, be another MIGHTY VAN HALEN. PERIOD!!!!!!! ROCK ON!!!
This is why I like this more (Hard Rock) than Metal/Grunge you know what I mean. They have so much fun in doing what they are doing. If you look at how depressed some other bands are, than I would always prefer Van Halen and AC/DC above them others.

Face it.....Hagar was washed up and Van Halen couldn't cut it without David Lee so there wasn't anything for them to lose by teaming up.....except of course the respect of the fans. Van Hagar is simply a waste of time compared to Van Halen with DLR.
Its one thing to be a fan of David lee roth.Its another thing to bash Sammy.I know album sales arent everything but,VH was far more popular as far as album sales go than they were with Roth.I believe every VH album with Sammy went to Number 1.That has to mean something doesnt it?

The difference between Roth and Sammy is Sammy can sing all those old Halen songs. Roth can't sing the Sammy songs.. I'd love to hear Roth sing "Dreams" or "Right now". That's 11yrs of Halen that's never gonna be replaced.

But as a "listener" of lyrics, Sammy made sense out of some shitty times of my life...its all how you listen to music. Some like the "feel or rush" of the tempo, others like escaping to a remote island, like Cabo Wabo. Sammy to me, was an "audio book". He took my mind places... DLR,..? Well, with songs like Everybody Wants Some? Seriously? Scat sounds better.

Sammy was a successful artist BEFORE VH... Sammy took VH to a place DLR couldn't.... 4 #1 albums, 9 #1 singles, and 11 #1 videos! 4 American Music Awards and 5 Grammy awards!...THAT'S what Sammy did for VH...Besides, you mean to tell me that DLR had a "point' to his lyrics? Where's DLR now? Oh yeah, Sammys STILL touring...

But you have to say that for all he's worth, when he left, Eddie didn't let it stop him, he continued to make album upon album and sell millions upon millions of records in his absence, albeit inferior to his work with Diamond Dave. Eddie IS Van Halen, but Dave is and will always be the frontman.

@mikekarena Eddie wore overalls during 84 tour! Plus Mike had a beard! He didn't have it in 83! Look at their videos, "Jump" and "Hot For Teacher." I saw them 2/11/84 in Boston and I rememberd their clothes and stage! Furthermore those speakers belonged to VH; not to US Festival. Plus there was a long rainbow with a "US" logo above the stage with a different monitor! And finally the LION logo was from 1984 tour because I still have the t-shirt in the frame with their gold record on the wall!

The difference between Roth and Sammy is Sammy can sing all those old Halen songs. Roth can't sing the Sammy songs.. I'd love to hear Roth sing "Dreams" or "Right now". That's 11yrs of Halen that's never gonna be replaced.

@Xman.. Who cares about Grammy's? Its only a music award that signifies accomplishment. Then who cares about Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame then, right? If you read ANY of my other comments, you would have noticed that I already gave the props to the DLR years for being a "party" band. "I have always said that DLR VH is the kind of music that you can play on a Tuesday nite, and it feels like a Sat nite. I have always said that DLR VH is the kind of music that you can play on a Tuesday nite, and it feels like a Sat nite. No denying that... But as a "listener" of lyrics, Sammy made sense out of some shitty times of my life...its all how you listen to music. Some like the "feel or rush" of the tempo, others like escaping to a remote island, like Cabo Wabo. Sammy to me, was an "audio book". He took my mind places... DLR,..? Well, with songs like Everybody Wants Some? Seriously? Scat sounds better.

@DLRisVH... VH was 2 different bands with 2 different singers. Although the stats don't lie for either"VH" band, DLR yrs selling 55 million vs Red Rocker selling 27 million. Sammy was a successful artist BEFORE VH... Sammy took VH to a place DLR couldn't.... 4 #1 albums, 9 #1 singles, and 11 #1 videos! 4 American Music Awards and 5 Grammy awards!...THAT'S what Sammy did for VH...Besides, you mean to tell me that DLR had a "point' to his lyrics? Where's DLR now? Oh yeah, Sammys STILL touring...

The VH brothers ran the band into the ground. Why did they eventually fail? Because the only visionary the band ever had was DLR.

Make no mistake, DLR is better in every way shape and form than Sammy Hagar, but I'll be damned if I let anybody insult Eddie like that. Eddie is the genius in the band, he writes all the songs, all those guitar licks that blow my head off no matter how many hundreds of times I've heard them. EVH is a musical deity and the soul of Van Halen in my opinion. Have you ever stopped to think of would happen to the band if HE left?

@Hunkola Oh by all means, Diamond Dave was a vital component to the greatest band ever, and I would take him in a heartbeat over Hagar or Cherone (Cherone was a comedy anyway as far as I'm concerned). But you have to say that for all he's worth, when he left, Eddie didn't let it stop him, he continued to make album upon album and sell millions upon millions of records in his absence, albeit inferior to his work with Diamond Dave. Eddie IS Van Halen, but Dave is and will always be the frontman.

@mikekarena Eddie wore overalls during 84 tour! Plus Mike had a beard! He didn't have it in 83! Look at their videos, "Jump" and "Hot For Teacher." I saw them 2/11/84 in Boston and I rememberd their clothes and stage! Furthermore those speakers belonged to VH; not to US Festival. Plus there was a long rainbow with a "US" logo above the stage with a different monitor! And finally the LION logo was from 1984 tour because I still have the t-shirt in the frame with their gold record on the wall!

@DLRisVH Hey Butthead! Van Hagar had 4 #1 albums, 9 #1 singles, and 11 #1 videos! Plus they received 3 MTV awards, 4 American Music Awards and 5 Grammy awards! With DLR years, they only had one MTV award for their first #1 hit single, "Jump!" However, with DLR, they sold 34 million albums (55 worldwide) with 2 diamond (sold 10 million copies) albums which was VH I and 1984. Van Hagar sold 16 millions (27 worldwide). And VH III just received a gold record last year! So YOU do the math, Pal!

@DLRisVH I rather listen to Diver Down and 1984 over Fair Warning album! Oh wait a minure, Pal! These albums have the 80's cheezy keybaords in them with DLR; way before "Red Rocket!" And they sold more albums than Fair Warning! Jump!, Dreams, and Finished What Ya Started went #1 than Unchained! Plus, Fair Warning was the 2nd least selling album behind the gold record flop VH III. By the way, I was "sure as fuck" a girl on the beach with "Finish" and married her for 22 years! So Van Hagar Rocks!

The ONLY Van Halen that matters is with Dave fronting the band. The 2004 Van Hagar tour was a flop. Ticket sales were averaging 3,500 per night (paying customers) while the rest of the seats were primarily "comp'd" or sold on a 2 for 1 deal with the donation of a non-perishable food donation. FACT!
The 2007-08 was a SOLD OUT tour with multiple nights played in certain cities. FACT.
