No, there would have been a riot whether they won the Stanley Cup or not. Many of the rioters went downtown for the sole purpose of rioting. One guy even brought a truck to flip. Other people came to join the rioting and steal from the stores downtown.
I tried searching up for a Stanley cup victory riot and I only got one. Which was for less severe than this. I also went over the list of riots in Canada and this seems to be the worst so far. Honestly I don't think this would have occurred had Canucks won.

Ive seen plenty of vids, of van fans wearing canuck jersey's smashing and destroying windows and cars. NOT THE "IMMIGRANTS" or "rednecks" just a bunch of stupid dunk 20+yr old men and someeee women.

Im a proud Canadian, and i love Vancouver, and what happened that night got me sick to my stomach. This was most likely going to happen win or lose (it happened in montreal and they WON). It was seriously heart breaking. Shame on the people who started it and shame on the drunk fans and careless idiots who joined in with them i hope all that deserve it get your asses thrown in jail, Vancouver is an Amazing city and Canada is a Amazing country and I cannot wait for next season, GO CANUCKS GO!

No, there would have been a riot whether they won the Stanley Cup or not. Many of the rioters went downtown for the sole purpose of rioting. One guy even brought a truck to flip. Other people came to join the rioting and steal from the stores downtown.
