@8BitMunky To parry you have to press left o right with exceptional timing, Diego wasn't allowed to make a ingle mistake, so he parries every single attack, to make things worse, Diego had to make sure he KO'd chun li right then and there because he could have been chip damaged (damage while blocking) KO'd. and he pulls of his super with perfect precision.

@8BitMunky Street Fighter III has a "high-risk high-reward" system called Parry, which consists of pressing Forward with strict timing instead of Back. The reward is easier counterattacks and no chip damage. This is so amazing because the guy who did it (Daigo's the name) was in a situation where if he'd blocked normally, the chip damage of Chun-Li's super would've finished him off; thus, he had to Parry every single hit successfully, something that involves nothing short of amazing dexterity.

There is a game mechanic in Street Fighter 3 called "parrying". To Parry, you tap towards your opponent just before his/her attack hits. If you do so successfully, you take no damage at all and, in some circumstances, you get an opening for an attack of your own!

That having been explained, what happened here was that Justin Wong (Character: Chun-Li, the woman) has Daigo Umehara (Character: Ken, the man) down to nearly no stamina left, so . . .

. . . He does heavy attacks from a safe distance, since they will build up his Super Meter and allow him to use a Super Combo. He expects that Daigo will simply block the super, and, since supers do a little bit of damage even when blocked, it will still KO him.

However, what Daigo does here, is he successfully parries each and every hit in that super combo, and then unleashes his own combo, not only taking the round and the game, but also the tournament championship.

@loostah1 the match is umehara daigo versus justin wong last round last game and daigo is on 1 spit HP when justin wong throws out a random super art for chip damage BUT teching blocks all kinds of damage (teching can be done by pressing forward in the moment of the hit which makes it risky to do since if you miss it you leave yourself open and the hit will kill daigo) and daigo techs everything and counters in the opening after justin wong's super art .. hope i helped

@Animehound1 Justin wasn't expecting a full parry, even if it IS daigo. He was expecting a cautious block and chip whatever life Ken had left. If you were in such an advantageous point in the game, you'd use your last bar to make sure he's down too. Chun-Li's super isn't easy to parry, especially considering how fast the first hit was

@RHollow40 The does not matter, in any kind of competitive set up you ere on the side of safety and caution. You never know what your opponent will pull off especially in dire straights. Just playing at Chinatown Fair in NYC Ive seen some amazing parries performed. Justin was being cocky and he paid for it.
