You may not believe in global warming, and as it is presented by most of it's supporters, I can easily why you do not believe in it, or acting proactively to prevent it. But, by powering your house by solar cells, that are not polluting (for greenies), and green-saving for you, you can help make America less dependent on foreign oil. That is patriotism, if you ask me, the idea that working yourself can help the country.
I actually priced what it would cost to power my house with solar cells, then crunched the numbers on how long it would take me to recoup my investment. It was SO NOT worth it economically. We're taking many decades to break even.
Since I'm not a member of the Green Religion, and I tend to make rational decisions, this wasn't an option.
Solar and wind are extremely expensive feel-good ways of producing electricity. Nuclear power is the answer.
For me, when I crunched the numbers, I found them to favorable. I have lived in the same house for 15 years, and I probably will continue to live in it for 5 to 7 years more. If I had put solar panels on it when I first moved in, by now the solar panels would be paid off in full (actually a bit more), and in 5-7 years they will have saved me money.
Nuclear is the tech I see that will help us get to an economy powered by solar and wind primarily. It is cheap, it is good, and we should use it.
The other draw back is, even though I live in the "Sunshine State," Florida doesn't have the kind of weather that would make solar very viable. It rains practically every day during the summer. And I could just imagine a hurricane or TS ripping off my new solar arrays that the insurance company refuses to insure, or insures for a huge amount of money. Hey, I didn't even factor the cost of insuring them in my cost analysis...

At best this would be able to supply all the US oil for a year or two. Look what low barrel fees the oil companies pay on existing leased wells and will pay the US for these new wells under under a fixed 50 year contract. They then sell it to the US citizens at world market prices.
If we started and stuck to an energy independence plan in the 70's we wouldn't be in this mess now and would probably avoided 3 wars with the possibility of a forth.

For me, when I crunched the numbers, I found them to favorable. I have lived in the same house for 15 years, and I probably will continue to live in it for 5 to 7 years more. If I had put solar panels on it when I first moved in, by now the solar panels would be paid off in full (actually a bit more), and in 5-7 years they will have saved me money.
Nuclear is the tech I see that will help us get to an economy powered by solar and wind primarily. It is cheap, it is good, and we should use it.

The other draw back is, even though I live in the "Sunshine State," Florida doesn't have the kind of weather that would make solar very viable. It rains practically every day during the summer. And I could just imagine a hurricane or TS ripping off my new solar arrays that the insurance company refuses to insure, or insures for a huge amount of money. Hey, I didn't even factor the cost of insuring them in my cost analysis...

At best this would be able to supply all the US oil for a year or two. Look what low barrel fees the oil companies pay on existing leased wells and will pay the US for these new wells under under a fixed 50 year contract. They then sell it to the US citizens at world market prices.
If we started and stuck to an energy independence plan in the 70's we wouldn't be in this mess now and would probably avoided 3 wars with the possibility of a forth.

Making the oil companies pay for making 8.5% profit will only hurt the little guy when they raise prices to keep that percentage.

Drill, drill, drill, I'm your green canidate. This ad aired the same day he said he's commited to off shore drilling anywhere. Hey Florida and the rest of the east and west coast that means your beautiful coastline will be dotted with oil rigs. I'm an Obama supporter and every day my smile gets bigger because of what a great job McCain is doing for the Democratic Party.

Dear John, as a life-long conservative who voted for Reagan twice, I'm amazed at how easily you are suckered by the left. You've taken part in their stupidity for the past decade, having been swamped by Feingold and Kennedy. You know nothing about the economy, having gone against Bush's tax cuts like a democrat waging class warfare. The hypocrisy of congress is a disgrace to America. They all need to be replaced!

hmmm. Oil companies are making record breaking profits, less cars are one the road now, hybrids on the rise..also cars that have more MPG (pretty much every car commerical boasts it), and domestic oil drilling has increased 300% (its the refineries that need to increase) in the last 15 years. Bush and oil companies are happy their supporters are terrible at math, so they can keep using Dems as scapegoats.

McCain is a liberal. There is NO global warming, it's a bunch a hooey! 31,000 REAL scientists say that it hasn't been proven. It's just another money making scheme to defraud the people created out of thin air by Al Gore, who BTW is one of Occidental Petroleum's largets shareholders. The whole thing is phony!
