Ah, yes. Rampage. Long as hell and just as pointless, but still one of my all-time favorite games all the same. I think I only ever made it all the way through once, and that was probably on a day when my parents wanted me to stay out of the way of company or something. It's the only reason I can think of that I would have had the four straight, uninterrupted hours for it.
When i was 8, my cousins and I decided that we were going to get through all of this game. We started playing around 10pm, and I remember being up for what felt like "all night". It was grueling and monotonous.
It was quite scandalous to be up until 2am playing a video game when you were 8.
Having the game start all over was a severe letdown. When ever someone says "Nintendo Hard" Rampage comes to mind.
When my sister heard your voice, she said you sounded boring. I told her to go take a hike up Death Mountain. I had no idea there were so many NES games like this.
But but...in the NES version you cant eat the dynomite? In the flash version I found if you ate the dynomite that little people leave to try and hurt you, you breath fire for a second...its hillarious to watch!
i used to have the N64 version and i played it ALL the time. i never officially beat it because i used the level select cheat and went straight to the last level
ive got the playstation version, its practically the exact same thing. it took about 7 hours to beat it w/ like ~110 levels, including space monsters and robots and wut not
I'll never forget the absolute stamina fest this was for me and my friend one day, as a kid. We spent soooo long, beating this game. I think the reason I'll never forget it, is because, it took soooo long to beat it, and all you got was a super crappy ending that said "congratulations". I beat this game when I was like 9 or 10. I'm 26 now and I have never forgotten that horrible disapointment.
There is the same game for snes, but they called it something diferent like monsters rampage or something like that. Does anyone know where can i find it? Have been looking for the rom like crazy
The PS2 version is the worst.Even though Ralph is ob the title screen,Only George and Lizzie are playable. The only way to actually play the PS2 version is to buy "Rampage:Total Destruction" which was released Spring 2006.Rampage TD features a charector select screen and over 30 monsters. But to play Rampage you must go to the Extras menu and select either Rampage without Ralph or Rampage World Tour which also excludes Ralph. On Rampage TD the only way to play as Ralph is to play Total Destruction.
Nice review.... I used 2 play the game on my old NES, but it was fun.... Now, I still wish I could play that game, but its impossible since my NES cant power up anymore.
My and my brother actually stayed up one night to beat this game back in the day. It was a blast because we got stay up way past our bedtime to destroy the united states.
I have played the arcade version on Midway Treasures series on PS2. The Sega Master system is alright. Arcade versions I and II are better graphics, so anyone new to this buy Midway Treasures I and II for PS2 if your into retro Midway arcade classics.
I really wanted to beat this game, so I played for 2 hours and 30 minutes STRAIGHT! No breaks. And I gave up because I got soooooooooooo bored... Thank you for uploading the ending to this game. I'd be so depressed if I had to play for 4 hours just to see "Congratulations".
WOW my friends who owned the NES version were lying to me when they said that it was the same as my Sega Master system version O_O The Map screen is a nice touch though.
Great review! And if you want to play an exact port of this game from the arcade and of the world tour game on the newest rampage game, total destruction. The new characters in the new game itself are sort of retarded and cliched, but its still a really good game. Plus... you can play as a friggin' demon!!!
@Xenomovies Fuck you. You're nothing but a fanboy who can't let go what happened three years ago. And before you call me an Irate fanboy, I prefer AVGN over IG, but I like them both, so back off.
128 levels. That it? You're LUCKY you haven't played the arcade version on "midway arcade treasures 1" for the PS2! There are 768 levels!!! The NES ending is better, too! after level 768, you go straight back to "day" 1!!! No ending at all! My eyes got bloodshot to beat the game and keep my points!
o_o; I finally got an ending in the Midway Arcade Treasures version. Took freakin forever, but I got it - although it wasn't 768 levels to get there...o_o; Anyway. Another great ending like this one, though, pretty much. xD So only something to do if you just HAVE to beat the damn game. Srsly.
Ha! Cheater! At parts, your health wasn't going down! Stop cheating! Just kidding, it's a game feature. The first 2 minutes of living/coming vack to life you have ulimited life. Realistic; showing you can't kill a monster straight away!
I consider arcades to be like the games industries equlivant of movie theatres, you got to see/play it in it's best glory, then wait the best part of a year to see/play it at home, but was never as good.
I think arcades really started to die because companies were concentrating on home versions more and that home technology is now far superior to arcades. They're just filled with gimmicky light gun, racers and DDR games nowadays.
No, I kid, I kid. I will say, it's good that games like these exist: you won't finish as fast as you'd beat, say, Super Mario Bros [just one time through, though], while you won't get anything as long or involved as, like, The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy. Still, I guess since I have Rampage: World Tour, I have no need for this game...
Aaaanyway, as always, great reviewin, Aqualung dude. You get a Gold Star!...and more usefully, 5 stars. Yes!
I remember renting that game and playing it back in the early 90's. I think I did end up beating it once. I did play the arcade version, but again I don't really remember that much of it since that was years ago.
I actually own the N64 version though, the one where the wolf (Ralph, if I remember correctly) did make it in.
Anyway, keep'em coming! I really enjoy your reviews.
Hooray! It's good to see a new Aqualung review. I must admit I was a bit disappointed at how short the review was, but I'm used to watching your in-depth walkthroughs, which would be impossible to do for this game. But it's nice to see something new from you and I can't wait to see what you check out next!
Nice review, I guess I wont be getting Rampage any time soon, but it was nice to see what the NES version would be like. I may do a more thorough video-review of your review later on.

This version is complete ass compared to the Sega Master System version. Nintendo was usually on par or better with Sega games but not this time.

Why they make same game for both N64 & NES
dromanoski1979 7 months ago
@dromanoski1979 They didn't. They made some of the sequels to Rampage, like Rampage Through Time, for the N64 though.

It kind of sucks that they left out the third character, Ralph, from this version.
They did bring him back in the N64 version, though
