I don't have this version... weird. I mean, I downloaded the album Up (because, fuck, I can't find it anywhere) but the rhythm is not the same of this one.
In a way, Suspicion seems like a link to Bill Berry's previous contributions with R.E.M. It bears some resemblance to Tongue from their Monster album in its dreamy , sexy way. Yet again it's a disappointment that it isn't more well known. I suppose that many people don't like to be slowly seduced- they probably find it insidious. This is still a fantastic track - a brilliant and lengthy tease with a magical pay off at the end of strings where a New Test Leper kind of instrumentation emerges.
I have literally grown up listening to R.E.M. I was one of the people that ACTUALLY saw them on Late Night in 83'. My brother and I use to stay up late to watch Letterman because we thought he was funny. And then R.E.M. played So. Central Rain. I was 16 years old. MURMUR was the first CD I ever bought and still have that copy. They (and The Replacements) are the bands that I consider "mine" because I have been with them every step of the way, including march 8th when Collapse will be released.
@robpen954 right there with ya. funny, r.e.m. and the mats were my top 2 growing up too. we used to have a saying. PWIG: paul westerberg is God. Buck on Let It Be and a tour together. I would have loved to seen THAT!
completely underrated. i could listen over and over. it would have been huge but they don't really care about gettin on Mtv. if ya could call it that. sixteenandpregnantt.v.. saptv
I think "At My Most Beautiful" is a little bit obvious and shallow. Something that a 6th grader would write - but maybe that's part of its charm.
I always liked "UP" and kind of compared it to U2's "Zooropa". It sucks that REM doesn't seem proud of this album - it's a fine album. Suspicioun is my favorite song off the album but this version isn't as pretty as the album cut.
why is this song not in the top 10 of REM???? Its slow, but comes from my favorite REM album and is a classic. I wish they would play it in the shows and it deserves more recognition. UP is severly underrated and they should be proud of it, its better than the patchy OUT OF TIME and is the essence of what they are all about
I think Up is R.E.M.'s most underrated and best album. I wish Michael would sing in falsetto more. On the album version, when he sings "You're so naked baby" in falsetto it sounds great.
@simmy403 up is so wonderful.listen on the beach somewhere.i had to respond cause "you're so naked baby" might be the one best lyrics they have ever done for some reason
@6HNS9 Yeah, it is my fav R.E.M. album as well. It is haunting, mysterious, beautiful, strange, dark, spiritual. All emotions in one. I get shivers, I laugh and cry.
UP is such an odd little nugget. The culmination of reeling in horror from the departure of Bill Berry... and then trying to make a new record with a "Pet Sounds" kind of feel.
Suspicion is a fantastic song.. One of my favorites of the Warner Bros. Years.
It a beautiful Album, I love them ,, And I died listen At my most beautiful , come on , people don´t have ears some time.. every album of rem is great , you just to listen to them in the right moment and you´ll be bewitched for ever .. :)

I'm sorry to say that this song isn't anywhere near their best... also boring quite regular video, atleast put a little effort into it...
I love the drummachine intro, but after 17 seconds it suddenly disappears... Hope this mistake isn't on the record.
It sounds like a Korg MiniPops drummachine... can anybody confirm this?
