That´s chinese quality overhead trolley wires. It reminds me state of wires in the Czech republic during the comunist establishment, when trolleybus transport was not preferred.
Are they too cheap to upgrade the wires and get new equipment? Here in Edmonton, dewirements don't happen that often. About 70% of the wires are new and upgraded. Sadly, Edmonton decided to scrap it's system by 2010.
It is the mindset and attitude of the Chinese leaders that need to be upgraded. The contact wires are poorly maintained in Shanghai, compounded by poorly maintained trolley poles, making dewirements a common sight. Thus, trolleybus has always been associated with words such as "backward", "slow" etc. Even the traffic police people don't like trolleybuses and think they contribute to slow traffic and sometimes congestions.
Vancouver is great and bettr than Edmonton in many aspects! I suppose you will need to secure a job and sort out your housing issues before permanently moving over? I wish I could visit Vancouver in the near future but I'll never get to have a ride on the iconic red flyer trolleys again. They have been replaced by the newer ones with blue livery.
Once you've settled down in Vancouver, you could also visit cities like Seattle and San Francisco. There are lots of trolleybuses too. San Francisco's is the most interesting and exciting one with both trackless trolleys and streetcar networks in the city.
The future of the trolleybuses in Shanghai does not look bright either! The network has been shrinking since mid 90s and there are already lots of disused overhead wires hanging there in Shanghai. So, let's see what's gonna happen next. Edmonton is not alone in it.
Lot of the wires in Edmonton is already down! Since the decision to scrap the trolleys, the system went down by 20 trolleybuses. The trolleys are still operation in Edmonton right now, but just till 2010. The only reason Edmonton is scraping the system is because they think they can save $100 million by getting new buses instead of new trolleybuses. It's not like I'm living here in the future anyways, I'm going to Vancouver, the second biggest trolley system in North America.
Despite the trolleybuses now are fitted with air-conditioning systems and have modern looking bodies, their engines and trolley equipment are of the 60s and 70s. Overhead wiring has never improved, a total standstill at 60s and 70s. That's where the problem is. I am not surprised they will all be gone in another few years.
To be very frank, the trolleybus technology that Shanghai uses now is the same with the one it used 30 years ago. The way the overhead wires are strung and the type of trolley poles, trolley shoes on the bus are the same as those used in the 60s and 70s. De-wirement rate is still very high. Thus, giving trolleybus a bad name that it is slow and problematic to the general public.
That dump truck must have carried goods that had made it exceed the height limit for vehicles in the city area. In addition, the trolleybus wires in Shanghai also tend to be relatively low hanging compared to that of other Chinese cities.
Yep, looks like poles were on the wrong set of wires and the driver had to get behind the bus for the 2nd time. It's puzzling to me even till today that why the driver did not attach the poles onto the right set of wires when the dewirement first happened.

When you use "dats" instead of "that's", it is enough to rile me up. Learn English, child....

This is North Zhejiang Road and Tianmu Road East crossing. The trolley bus might be an SWB5105KGP of Route #15.

i reckon he put the poles on the "wrong wire" becaus ethe poles would not be able to reach the correct wire

For the second one, was the pole on the wrong wire?
