By the 1760s, this term was in use by the English in the British North American colonies to refer to Scots-Irish settlers in the south. In my views the word shouldnt matter, but the meaning and the manner to which the word was implyed . If you mean just o say something like, "Hey what's up my nigga ." Like in a way that you're saying, "what's up bro?" then I dont see the problem with it . But if the intent of the word is to insult and dehumanize someone then yes I agree that it's wrong . I myself am a white person, and I use the N word freely. I'm no racist, my girl is black, and I don't use it in an insulting way. Like 'What's up nigga?' or 'stupid nigga' just messin' around. Even do it to my black homies. They got mad about it at first, but when they found out that I jsut didn't give a fuck whether it was 'off limits' or not, they eased up. I don't use the N word but wanted to correct your "date" when you believe Cracker was used. By the 1760s, this term was in use by the English in the British North American colonies to refer to Scots-Irish settlers in the south. Which then expanded into the white bullwhip farmers of Florida (mostly poor) and then on to Slave owners who also cracked a whip.

the whole race issue, to me, mainly depends on character.theres no doubt that theres a larger percentage of black criminals than white criminals, which is a statstic, hence the bars on windows of stores in "ghettos". but to me, there are black people, and then there are niggers...if ur a law abiding citizen actually making an effort to be succussful at life, then ur just a normal guy..all races are guilty of this, but a black person who turns to crime to better themselves is a nigger to me...

My question its: Its always been a negative word, during slavery, etc. So why would you guys want to call each other that. So. Let me get this straight. Your argument is that one racial slur is "worse" than another based on the fact that it's been around longer? I'm sure I'm not the only white person who thinks of that as thoroughly racist. All racial slurs are wrong, regardless of what they are, and ONE is NOT worse than the other on the basis of how long it's been in circulation. It's the INTENTION and USE that makes it wrong, not the word itself. Any remark or action which is used to discriminate is racist.

Racism, regardless of it's direction or target, is wrong and one variety of racism isn't inherently worse for any reason. To put it bluntly, to call one form of racism worse than another on the basis of who it's prejudicing is racist in itself as it biases one unduly.
