Unlike a lot of other guitarists, I really feel like Godspeed can make the guitar "sing". It just feels very alive and emotional, not metallic or rushed. It really sounds like he's having fun playing his songs

This guy's very non-invasive approach to melodic composition is astounding.

Guitars can sound so tasteful when used in moderation and in accompaniment to the song as opposed to spewing notes a flurry of notes and uninspiring runs over a great progression.

I was more guitarists would capitilize on this method.

I think what he means by non-invasive is "not overbearing", it's drowning you with a flurry of scales ALL the time. Not that he doesn't have a fast run here and there, just that it's not invading your face flashy ALL the time.

@Godspeed8040 if you roll that hairband up over your 2nd fret, it stops the open strings from vibrating. this is useful on phrases that are using lots of finger tapping, when you can no longer use your palm to mute the unplayed strings.

You have to put in on top of the fretboard. The hair band is for eliminating extra noise.

@Godspeed8040 some people use it to muffle the strings when executing certain riffs that you find trouble avoiding hitting other strings. never seen guthrie ever need to do that though. : ) your playing is incredible

@Syntraediace220 That would be true if it had been on the first fret, but it helps prevent unwanted vibrations behind the nut as well, like sometimes you'll be playing something and a harmonic-like chime will ring out if it's not muffled. Some people use a piece of foam behind the nut or behind a tune-o-matic bridge where similar things can happen.

@Godspeed8040 Fuckin awesome song dude! you got my vote. By the way, The "hair band" doesn't do anything where you have it. People use them to dampen their strings. Great if you get alot of string ring while doing things like right hand tapping, fast legato runs, etc... Although, nothing beats proper technique. If you have problems with "string ring", practice using your right hand to mute strings not being played. Takes practice, but well worth it. Keep on Rockin!!

@Godspeed8040 It's used to dampen the strings. When guthrie sweeps and taps, although he is a very professional guitarist, it helps the tone of his sweeps sound less sloppy, because they ring out without it.
