I was thinking the other day, that the track "my so-called life" has so brilliant drums also, then immediately your video came into my mind, and I thought if szamár-madár is possible to play this similar to the original, "my so-called life" is too...oh man, how much would I love to hear it once covered by you!:) I guess you have many things to do, but if you could it give it a chance when you have time and the mood, it would be more than awesome ! ps.: i'm bloody waiting for the studio version!
@godsmackhudejo Thanks man! 'My so called life' is a great track. I hadn't heard it until you mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure that'll make it on to my ipod for some future jamming. At least that track is in 4/4, makes life a little easier. Who knows, I might sit down and figure it all out. I plan on doing more videos of this style, so that might be one of them. The studio version will happen, I'm in the process of working a few things out and waiting on the engineer I've got to record it all.
Sadly there isn't a picture of that, but I can explain how I got 'that' sound.
So, it's a 3005 maple snare, with a Remo C.S. Dot head tuned super low. The splash is placed flat on the head and some tape is run from either side of the hoops, over the splash. Like in this vid: youtube.com/watch?v=JtBKzh__JSU
I also have 40 strand wires on which give it a fat snare response.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen/ heard. I can't even imagine how much time and effort that could have taken. I wish one day I could appreciate music as much as you do. Thank you.
@michaelmarino100 Wow. Thank you so much. This is by far my favourite comment so far! Haha! I don't think I appreciate music any more than the next person, but I can't express how much kind words like that mean to me. It's inspiring learning that something I do can be appreciated like that. This is a beautiful piece and I just hope I did it enough justice. Thanks again!
@godsmackhudejo Oh yeah, I'm glad someone picked up on that bit. It's quite a hard little phrase to do cleanly. To be honest, it's not quite as full sounding as the track, as you have to do such quick snare swapping between the press rolls, you don't have much time to let them buzz out. But i think it emulates it well, and with the track works perfectly. It's just a matter of refining these phrases into something even more spot on.
amazing dude! aaron's beats and drum patterns sound totally out of world (yet so fuckin cool), it truly makes me wonder when someone (A HUMAN:D) can actually pull it off! much props to you!
@godsmackhudejo Yeah man, I'm with you. Aaron is a crazy mofo. I can't even comprehend the way this guy phrases so many grooves one after the other to create such a ridiculous piece. He's the man. Thanks for those kind words! It's been a labour of love. This is one of my favourite songs -ever-. I'm excited to build on it some more.
@PostRocker94 Cheers man! Believe me, I wasn't. I'd be sweating on performing that for exams for months, it was stressful, but it really is good fun to play, so i guess it metered out the stress. Plus, i suppose concentrating so hard makes you ignore that aspect and really gets you focused. Glad you enjoyed it!
@PostRocker94 All the specs are in the description. Hats are 14" Meinl Byzance trad. Thin. Crash is 20" Dream Bliss paperthin, the rides are a 22" Paperthin Dream Vintage Bliss and the other is a 20" Dream Bliss prototype ride w/rivet.
@rocklobster4731 Well, i transcribed it about year ago. That took forever. Learning it took less time, but still took about a month of solid hours spent on the kit. I know there were some small errors, but the thing is, I can nail every bar of this, this was just in an exam situation, not a comfortable shoot for a cover video. Anyway, there'll be a 100% nailed version up in the near future. keep an eye out!
i dont know drums, most that ive listened to were all rock and roll drums. this one seems so new and is a whole new style... its good, keep it up bro.
@chickchad Thankyou! I'm glad you can appreciate it. There'll be many more videos to come, so do subscribe and check in now and then. I'd love to be able to show people some really different ways of approaching the drumset.
this is art.
