There is Microsoft Easy Transfer which backs up personal data to an external hard drive and you could back it up yourself. The only thing you need to do is to re install your programs but it does not mean that you have to lose everything. I also agree with Linux. I use it for everything but gaming. That is why I bought win 7
This was a known issue. I researched this because I have XP3 and never upgraded to Vista. I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7 but my research said that Windows 7 would run badly on a XP machine (not dual core) and erasing the entire Hard Drive would be required. Research before purchase is they key.
if you do a clean install, all of your program files and documents and... well, everything, will be stored in a folder called windows.old. from there, just copy the files and programs you want into your new folders.

Haha, I personally think they could have at least made Windows XP UPGRADABLE to Windows 7. Ahh, Micro$oft and their ways....

Seriously i never thought they would go to such extent. First they get a crappy OS and then they force you to pay for it. DUH!

LOL and you think all your files and settings would be restored??
Tru3m0sl3m 2 years ago
it doesn't restore automatically, but yes, most things can be restored. I know this from experience.

Obviously there is a way to "transfer" the config files and play with regedit but what about newbies???
Tru3m0sl3m 2 years ago
