  • you're awesome! :)

  • if you know your japanese vowls, almost every character is pronounced the same way. thats how hime is pronounced. him, as you would in english, and eh, but short. him-eh.

  • it seems that I allways bump in to your videos while I am making my cosplay :O

It is really not a bad thing ^_^

you have really helped me allot :D

It feels like I`ve taken so much :(

    I WILL NOW SUBSCRIBE :D <3

  • cute

  • Woah, O.O I really wonder where your going in such a hurry now xD

  • where do you get your fabric ? :D

  • I love the skirt, I want to try and make one myself but can you tells me how much fabric I would need?

  • How much fabric do you need in order to make the skirt? <,<

  • This is awesome. I wish I lived in a world where I could wear this everyday!

  • Hi Evange. I love your sewing tutorials and I have a question. If I wanted to make just the half-circle skirt from this tutorial with a regular non-elastic waistband, would I still need to use my hip measurement or my waist measurement?

  • this is awesome (: and i have that necklace : D

  • have you done a tutorial on making petticoats?

  • you are talented!

  • OMG I LOVE THIS!i have been looking for a lolita dress/skirt tut for a lonnggggggggg time! thanks so much!

  • You are SO AWESOME. Thanks for sharing some sewing tips and tricks. I have no idea how to sew, really (I only made my own outfit ONCE many moons ago). And after searching ENDLESSLY for the past week or so, to find a good coordinate, I am brought to tears by clothing that cannot fit me, or clothing I cannot afford... I have turned to the DIY route!!!

Thanks again for sharing. I can't wait to see what else is on your website ^_^

  • you pronounced Hime correctly the first time :3. And honestly it all depends on how the Lolita wears it, not just the skirt itself. You may actually be able to go Country Lolita with it as well. All depends on the Lolita. lol Good Tutorial though, thanks :3 keep up the good work!

  • I.Must.Make.This.Dress.

  • @demonmaiden the way it works is you have say, 5 in of elastic to stretch and sew to 10 in of fabric. The elastic just works out, as long as you pace yourself while sewing it on!!

  • sweet and country lolita

  • i <3 it when u r so excited at the end of your video and it makes me want to make it too :D :D

  • And would I cut that out on a piece of fabric that has been folded in half once?

  • I am stuck on the math for the half circle

Let's say my hips are 45"

    45" x 2 = 90"

Do I still find the radius using this method:

    90" / (2 x pi) = 14"

Or is my calculation wrong :(?

  • Wow, so pretty! :D I looove that fabric!

Also, if hime is spelled ひめ, then to my knowledge, you pronounced it correctly the first way (hee-meh). :]

I'm not too sure what you mean by "stretching the elastic as you sew it." To me, I'd feel like there'd be a lot of extra elastic left if you stretched it out as you sewed it down. Do you cut off the rest, or does it just come out the right way anyway?

  • OMG!! Lovely fabric :D

  • Thank you soooooo much for posting this. I've been searching for lolita sewing tutorials forever! Really good job, looks beautiful!

  • i wish you used a prettier material, though this is STUNNING hun!

  • It all depends on the color of fabric you use and the type of accents for the certain stylesI try to go more classic lolita with any thing that i do for that style.

Thank you so much! i just started sewing and your tutorials truly help!

  • That turned out so cute! I love it!

  • kawaii

  • you can call the pronunciation irrelevant to the project but it's not, if you're going to use words like "lolita" and "hime" (pronounced "he may") to describe the style of the skirt -especially- when teaching other people how to make the skirt you should pronounce those words correctly otherwise people will be misinformed...aside from that, thank you for the vids Evange ^_^ as always the end product turned out beautifully! I'll be trying this out soon

  • As to all of the other non-relevant to the project comments, I'd just ignore them as this is about the creation of the skirt, not pronunciation of Japanese words or the blouse/shirt you happen to be wearing in the tutorial. This was not a video about Lolita style and how it should be worn; it was one of how to create a Lolita-style skirt (no matter what style you want to call it...it doesn't matter in the end).

  • Pretty good tutorial for less experienced sewers since it sticks to basic pattern pieces and sewing techniques (although for some newer sewers, the elastic can be a bit frustrating sometimes). At the very least, it will give an idea how this style of skirt is constructed, allowing the sewer to experiment with different ways of layering and such. I personally like channels and drawstrings over elastic so it's more versatile, but I think the way you've utilized elastic makes it easier.

  • Actualleh I ended up sewin a variation of this skirt, blearrgh I accidently cut wrong so it's a bit meehhh...jagged but ima sew some yummilicious ruffles to cover up my epic fails :3 Tanku for postin dis vid Evange~

    It turned out Supah cute!

  • awww ish supaaahhh cuuuuttteee....x3 x3 I wud make it buuuutttt im even more of a lazy butt then it takes to make this >.< Becuz of my laziness and fear of failure, I cannot bring myself to attempt a circle skirt...:( but i will use the cute elastic-scallop design thing, now that is some epic shite. :D

  • I just found your youtube channel and I gotta say, I'm gonna be busy tonight watching all of them :D It's difficult finding good lolita tutorials and you are more than helpful! :) keep doing what you're doing!

  • soo helpful *O* you speak so clear and i really understand!

also you gave great explanations :3

  • How is the half skirt done?

  • this is very helpful, but I am having issues with the half-circle skirt. and how it's done Dx

  • I like this- You talk clerly and I (who´s not good at seewing) can understand!

  • @LittleMissSweetieKat

Modesty is relative. Besides, this video is about the skirt, not my shirt.

  • @Evange

don't worry, she is that bitchy in every lolita related video.

  • abot how much fabric did you use for yours? just curious i got 3 yrds as a gift just wondering how much more i need

  • That's such a pretty skirt!!!! Thank you so much for making this tutorial!!! :'D

  • i like the desigtn of the skirt but the pattern of the fabric.......i guss iuf you like it then thats all that matters

  • do you take commissions =)

  • Ooh, pretty. How many yards did you use of fabric?

  • @XXCissneiXX seconding the question :)

  • That sounds like a powerful sewing machine..... :D

  • If a lolita wpuld wear it there must be a petti under it they never wer a normal skirt ^^

i did it with a bow and it looks cute and hime (; tnx uploading

  • How long did it take to make this? c:

  • It would not be pronounced heh-may. It would be pronounced Hee-may. :3

  • Ahh! Very helpful ;u; I've read about a lot of similar patterns, but it's nice just to see someone else ACTUALLY do it!

Haha, very adorable at the end when you're rushing xD Thank you for this video!

  • i wish i could sew

  • Its said the same way its spelled. Heh-May Its Japanese for princess.

  • @xosweetpunkox If it was said the same way it was spelled, it would be pronounced "hime."

  • @Evange not in the Japanese language xD

  • @Evange i think she meant romanji, but you had it right the first time :D

  • @Evange Yes, but it is a Japanese word. In Japan, the "i" would make a "ee" sound, and there is no such thing as a silent "e" in Japanese, therefore it would make an "eh" sound.

    Hee-Meh

  • @Evange Actually it is. It's just that for English speaking people it's not gonna be easy, because the way you speak is very different, you tend to use long vowel sounds a lot and short vowel sounds not so much, plus your r's, l's, and t's are very very different.. It's a short vowel sound in the end. it's HE-me. Trust me, I study Japanese. ^^

  • @akissy

I love Japanese! Yeah, it is hee-meh (to use the dictionary way, but that's what you meant). It's hard to tell people words in Japanese, because it comes out sounding as bad as they would say it. Almost like you have to talk to them like their stupid, and they're just okay with that.

  • @xosweetpunkox I pronounce it as "He-may"

    ...oops ^^;

  • @xosweetpunkox

it if was "heh may" it'd be spelt as Hemei, or Hemai.

Hime is said as "he - meh" in japanese I's make an Ee sound, and Es make an eh sound.

  • @xosweetpunkox It's pronounced He, as in Him in the English sound. And Meh. Hee-meh.

  • @CartuhBlake Ok.. I get it.. lol. Enough people have responded back to me about it. U all can say it your way.. and I will say it my way. The world will not blow up from the way I am pronouncing it. -heavy breaths-

    ~Anna

  • @xosweetpunkox I didn't say you couldn't pronounce it that way, and it's fine that you're saying it like that. I'm just saying, that is the actual pronunciation.

  • ★★★★★

  • horrorozo

  • Wow this is a really good tutorial. You should post it on egl, they would love it! I know I can't wait to give this a go! ^w^

  • maybe for haloween

  • I can't wait for you to do the wai-lolita top!!

  • Love it!

  • I love lazy and not the least bit shy to try any technique. Its adorable and i love it.
