No this is indeed the 21st Century, the one in which no woman can be portrayed in ANY of the media as anything other than beautiful, elegant, sophisticated, ultra intelligent and capable, smoothing the way in life for their oafish, ignorant, bumbling and loutish males. What a pity that this image rarely ever portrays real life.
@NotADood I mean, just read your original commnet that I replied to. You sounded like a man-hater and it was very offensive to men. You went too far and I called you on it. If you said a similar commnet about women I would have called you on that too.
My comments below are about how men are misrepresented by the media, I know that women are misrepresented too, I'm not denying that. Believe it or not, men can do housework lol.
@carlinsaves Men run the media. They're like 90%+ of the writers and directors in Hollywood. If you don't like the way men are portrayed as bumbling idiots in the media, take it up with Seth McFarlane, Matt Groenig, Tim Allen, Judd Apatow, or the vastly male majority of advertising copy writers and creative directors.
@NotADood If you actually took the time to read all my comments you'd know that I don't have a problem with the way men are in these shows because they're funny and commercials annoy me a little but I don't really care. You're repeating yourself and making me do the same. All I wrote is to challenge what you said, that men like to look like idiots. They don't, they like to look funny, there's a difference. Like I said, you just have no sense of humor so you see comedy as humorless stupidity.
Men WANT to be portrayed as incompetent oafs. They create the media that depicts them that way and they lap is up like thirsty dogs. It creates an excuse for them to not take responsibility for their behavior and decisions. If they weren't just hypocritical whiners, they'd have a problem with The Hangover and The Three Stooges. They love that shit.
@NotADood No I can't, and you can't form an argument to support it. You can say "all men want to look like idiots" but that doesn't prove it's true. How about I say "all women want to look like whores." There, I said it. Is it true now?
@carlinsaves Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, The Simpsons, The Family Guy, The Hangover, Miss March, Home Improvement beer commercials... Men write it, men put it on screen, men buy tickets to see it. Conclusion: Men love seeing themselves as incompetent buffoons. And when it comes time to help fold laundry, they lean on those stereotypes to get out of it. That's an argument. And you don't have one to counter it.
@NotADood (part 4/4) Today, because of girl power and all that, men are still seen as dumb (but funny) stereotypes and women are seen as better than them. Real men are not idiots and real women are not flawless. It’s not fair to men, but again, we don’t get our panties in a bunch. If feminism was about equality this wouldn’t be, but why should it change? It’s funny! You just have no sense of humour so you don’t get that. Men see the greater good in being silly and dumb to make people laugh.
@NotADood (part 3/4) Dumb humour is the most popular form of comedy. Women are supporting characters because mature characters in a comedy show always stand in the background. They traded laughing at themselves for feeling empowered because I guess women are more insecure than men. Back in the day these sitcoms used mutual cultural stereotypes of married people. The nagging wife with the husband who couldn’t do anything right.
@NotADood (p 2/4) These commercials exist because of unoriginal writers, the whole women self-esteem movement and, maybe, because of feminists in the media. Secondly, the shows you mentioned are also not men loving to look like idiots, those shows are comedies because of the funny male characters. Homer and Bart, Peter, Tim Allen, they’re the main stars. The women are seen as not funny. They’re serious, smart, hard workers, wholesome and so on, while the man steals the show with his dumb humour.
@NotADood (part 1/4) That isn’t men loving to look like idiots, it’s men loving to look funny. You see, men and women are different but equally important. Women are more emotional and sensitive. If you had a commercial with women looking dumb and men looking smart every women would complain. You see a lot of not funny commercials with idiot men and “empowered” women because men don’t read in to it so much, but if the sexism goes too far men definitely complain.
I don't see why women doing housework is offensive . I know plenty of women who are more that happy to do it, and lets not forget that men , out of care, invented washing machines, stoves, fridges, Microwaves, chemicals to clean. I'm a guy and I find doing housework like coking and cleaning very relaxing, but working in a corporate business room or an office environment has not exercise or freedom, and just boring and repetitive.
Not sure if this has been mentioned already or not but that seems to be a spoof on the vintage advertisement "You mean even a woman can open it" to me
I may very well be an asshole but my words are still true. Men don't like to be neutered by women. This is why the career oriented woman is sad and lonely without children at age 40 wondering what happened....well you're a fucking bitch and nobody wants to be around a bitch. Both men and women like assholes for some reason but nobody likes a bitch.
(...) And if we think it over ,there is routine and boreness in almost all types of work on this earth. The only difference is the way we do the work ,our state of mind and what is within our hearts.
These "anti-sexist" people are not going to be happy until EVERYONE lives the exact lifestyle they approve of -- down to every jot and tittle. And anyone who steps outside their dictates will be an abomination to the world.
It's true ,men are naturally attracted to sweet ,caring and loving women ,not those who keep yelling for their selfish "rights". Men love women who know their place and whose main goal is to bring sunshine to their lives and to the household . Housework is part of it and good wives make a point in cleaning ,washing and cooking and they do it with joy because beyond the chore they see an act of love (...)
People, the video is titled as 'WOMEN in commercials"; if you want to complain about sexism towards men, go and comment on those videos. Seems simple to me. Sexism towards both genders are issues that need to be dealt with; but I find it immensely irritating that you insist on basically implying that the maker of this video is sexist, and completely missing the point that he/she is trying to make -- namely, that sexism towards women is still rife, despite all we've done to try and stop it.
Women are usally showing as brillant, close to God in the commercials, men are potrayed as rednecked, backward, unintelligent cave men like creature, which is so off the mark. And yet, we see it is women they are foucsing on as being potrayed poorly, when is the sexism at all levels towards men going to stop?
@GTCism It's only sexist when they put you in a concentration camp and hit the switch for the gas in the showers. That's about the only time you could get a woman in the U.S. to admit sexism against men. The poster fails to comprehend that there is a 50% chance of females being portrayed doing housework in a perfectly asexual society (a BS idea anyway). But, no: it's bad if they're vacuuming! Maybe they should get thrown out of moving vehicles like men get on commercials.
@GTCism I would agree that sexism goes both ways, and I'm not opposed to the concept of men also being treated unfairly. But please don't act like sexism against women is some kind of sham - it's not.
@JosieMuppet That's pretty accurate of about 85-90% of the men I know...+/- like 5 to 10% for those who are lazy assholes who like hockey or baseball.
Maybe when more women get down into the mines and start equaling out the 90 or so % rate of on the job deaths for males they might start showing them drinking beer and hanging out in front of pickup trucks...
Commercials don't really care what the 'men or women' roles are, they just investigate which target audience is most suitable to buy the product and they focus on that
its not sexist like men should be tough and doing job and women should be tender and cleaning and cooking etc.
@Jackques What an outrageously stupid comment to make. Men are more than just being 'tough' and women are more than 'tender'...Commercials are full of sexism and stereotyping the genders into roleplaying that no longer represents Western Society.
@funkybruiser Did you not even READ my comment?? I said that commercials DONT CARE about stereotype men of women, they care about where the money goes.
The commercials dont represent the western society, it represents the secret desires, and anything that will catch our attention. Attention is their goal.
@commpilot4308 What is your use for being on the planet? Trolling apparently. Damn, too bad your parents didn't stop having kids before they got to your sorry ass.
While I'm not defending a constant barrage of crap like that in my magazines or television time, I'm not going to bad mouth America for the 'downfall of a woman's image' because women themselves have the power to make a choice:
1) Set a good example for other women so they might go into the world and do well, or...
2) Fill their mind with "They'll just use you for sex / keep you down" bullcrap so they come out angry and swinging, setting them up for failiure and ridicule...
Would you mind explaining to these people how the woman with the bikini got there in the first place? The woman would have to AGREE to do the ad. To be in the ad, she'd be paid a substantial amount of money. The ad makers probably go through an agency, full of other women who are in the profession, knowingly, of objectifying THEMSELVES because why would they be there in the first place? ...because they believe to be the hottest thing to walk God's green Earth.
you people are stupid, women in the western countries are treated alot worst than countries in the middle east, if you look everyone woman are only seen as sex objects, e.g when u see a car commercial in a magazine there's usually a woman in a bikini standing next to the car, what does that tell u? and the number of times women are raped and abused in western countries, yet u retards want to force your ways of livings onto others.
pathetic humans, soon your televisual signals will belong to us. we will broadcast our ads displaying poorly produced products at even lousier prices. muahahahaahha!
Hi smelly ORVX, you really are as thick and retarded as you look. Smelly do you need me to give you another slap? ;-) Or maby you are to thick to understand..
while I respect the point that the creator of this video is trying to get across, it didn't really wirk that well because all of these ads were for either detergent of mops. If tthe sreator could show the pattern continued across a variety of ads for different things, it would be better.
What is the point of the person who made this video, if we could get back to this being the way it SHOULD be EVERYONE would be much happier. Regardless the only offensive thing I saw was what I did not see. YOU had taken the only unacceptable around 19 seconds where the women assualts the 3 men.
I understand that it can be a sensitive issue, but the portrayal of men being dumb, incompetent, clumsy and stupid gets a little old too. Before there is any finger pointing, just be aware that it goes both ways.
i am aware that it goes both ways, and i am annoyed that men frequently take offense when i have any grievances about my place in society because they feel i don't know or think about men's issues. i do, and adamantly so!
it's like someone confiding in you, telling you 'i feel really shitty lately' and you respond 'well, i have really bad days, too'. i mean, the person who made the initial statement wasn't saying you didn't- just saying they do. i hope that makes sense.
what a load of shit, in west, WE ALL live better then any of our ancestors, the only thing left be upset about is a relative comparison, and the ONLY reason feminist continue to bitch, not because the have it relatively bad, they have it better, but because the grass is always greener, so much s, they now play in both yards and STILL Bicht, it's there, your nature.
why don't you make one? obviously she wanted to make one called women in commercials.. not men? how do you know she wouldn't believe that men are depicted a certain way in commercials too? she's not allowed to express her opinion because you have one too.. you fucking dick!
People who don't see the harm in these commericials need to realize that, yes, these individual commericals are not damning women to inferiority, but the prevelance of these types of commericals are indiciative of our sexist society, and perpetuate a very sexist idea. Women growing up watching them learn that that is the type of life they are meant to live, they learn they MUST conform to these prescribed gender roles. Its really terrible
I am getting sick of seeing the same kind of women in these commercials. The housewife, the soccer mom, the shody trying to get a career going because my husband is gonna leave me lady. Wow, my life doesn't look like this = how can I even relate/compete? LOL
Yep! My mom gets so mad when she sees these comercials! She is always complaining that they don't show men cooking dinner or vacuuming the rug. Its sad because its a commentary on reality. Companies know to market these products to women because they know that typically women are the ones buying them and taking care of their families not husbands. Sometimes its hard to see a change in the world... being a women its hard
I'm not against the idea that women have it hard or harder then men, It's just that i can list you several ways in which men suffer that women don't, When most people decide to say "being a woman is hard" they always point to minority instances that do not effect their gender as a whole in the slightest, Of course some woman have it hard especially in middle eastern countries but it just isn't globally truthful to say women have it harder.
Creepy, in regards to the middle eastern countires, the only point that needs to made it MRM is in reference to western culture and regardless it is western feminist who do nothing but pay lip services to the plight of those in non western cultures using the hardship of others to advance their own selfish goals.
I don't really want to argue this anymore as it will inevitably, Eventually, Turn into a competition on which gender has it harder, Keep in mind the initial comment was 3 weeks old.
And i don't really care for that, If women really have it harder then we should be helping them slightly more because they are slightly more hurt, But it is men (and young boys) committing the majority suicides, It is boys who are the majority of kids who feel their teacher doesn't listen to them.
The status of women is falling fast in America, and its not because of those ads. There is something called Rap and Hip Hop, which is causing a great decline of women's status.
lol rap and hip hop its the dumb female that actualy sing with there songs against themselfs. There are like 100 sexist commerical towards guys and how dumb they make them look.Girls do this to themselfs they portray it in life.
I mostly hate the vision of pastel bourgeois suburbia being presented as the ideal. You can almost hear the advertizers whispering in your ear: "this is what you're supposed to want" "spend your money on useless products" "buy a sweater set" Ick.
But also, the archaic gender roles being reinforced here piss me off... BOYS LIKE TRUCKS! AND GIRLS LIKE SHOPPING! Zero images of men and women working together.
BTW... Are images of women in the home dressed in casual work clothing, dusting, cleaning and doing the laundry sexist?
Given the amount of work I do at home before and after setting foot in a corporate setting, I would pull the "SEXISM CARD" if they placed my husband and countless other men in those roles you find sexist given that women are more likely to be the caregivers of the home and additional breadwinners!
Men are supposed to be the idiots, not only at home, but in the workplace too! C'mon! According to Madison Avenue, It takes a woman to come into a group of men to solve a problem...
I'm not even going to touch the whole race a gender thing... Women need to stop whining about their portrayal and sit back and look how other folks (men and even other women) are portrayed for once...
Hey I have no problem with this. I'm a chick. Because you know, at least we aren't represented like men in commercials, who are always greedy, snappy, stupid, and airheaded. : ) It's true. Just watch any commercial like the one's in the video above, the man is always like that.
I'm really not bugged by these things. I'm not a sensitive bitch. : D
yes, men are also unfairly represented but seldom are they objectified. women are a commodity in the media. also, it doesn't help for one woman to put another down by suggesting that their having an opinion about the nature of advertising distinguishes them as a "sensitive bitch." i actually find myself to be quite cold, and i am pissed by the representation of my gender in the media.
Women handle a lot of the purchasing power in the household. Wow, marketers market to the women buying the products. Don't quite get how they were misrepresented. This women empowerment thing is getting silly.
Oh no! Bourgeios women getting to experience mass consumerism! Wow, how oppressed are they! Try taking your laundry to a laundromat or cleaning *other* people's houses for a change instead of sitting at home and watching Oprah all day. Then you'll really see what it means to have your fat spoiled suburban stay-at-home bourgie ass oppressed.
there is nothing suburban about me, or bourgeois, sure some people have it worse, but just because im better off does that mean i have to settle for less then some guy whos not as smart or talented as me just because he has a penis and i have a womb?
and why should women have to clean their home, cant a man help out? equality please not equality of oppertunity
the only reason why women are in these commercials doing house work, is because men are douche bags who are too lazy or scared to clean the dishes, vacumm, or cook a fucking meal. maybe if more men helped out their wives, there would be more commercials with men cooking.
oh and hamburger helper, if you watch the whole commercial, it shows men as well, just to let you know.
Swiffer has really done a number on themselves haven't they? Everyone who hates sexist commercials, check out the 100 Calorie Snack commercials from Nabisco... ALL women. Good work on whoever put this together. Also, you've made me more aware of laundry commercials... I don't think I ever noticed the women, or paid attention to them. And that stupid pizza commercial... I hated that one!
That's also why when a golf game is on the majority of ads that run at that time will be for more expensive items like for Rolex watches, certain expensive cars, etc.because they've done their research and know that most(not all)people who watch/play golf are high middle to upper class. These people aren't trying to be sexist in my opinion, they are simply doing their job-a big money making job at that where you want to make the most of your ads/skills which means do they do the research. =)
Also you have to look at when these commercials are running...most of these run during the day time, when as I said a mojority of people who are able to see TV at that time to catch the commercial are...drum roll please...WOMEN, Stay-at-home women thus more likely to be cleaning as part of their daily routine...so again they appear on TV at times that their consumers for that specific product will be likely to see them. =)
these adverts air constantly not just during the day
maybe if the addressed the adverts more towards men, men would get off their arses and do some cleaning
my mum for example earns more and works harder than my dad but she still does the cleaning, because he doesnt feel like its his job, its what he was taught in NZ through the media
maybe if we were exposed to adverts promoting symmetrical families they would exist
You talk about your mother earning more and working harder as if that gives her a right to not help around the house...marriage is a team effort in my home my husband is the one who works outside of the house and earns our money, and while I do some of the house work during the day hours since I'm a Homemaker, he is still VERY involved and helpful around here and with our daughter. We are a team. We don't view "this or that" as "his job or her job" just because I stay home. =)
Also I understand what you are saying, I'm not attacking you, so please don't take it that way just because you can't hear my infliction through this comment like you would be able to if we were speaking in person. I'm not being rude, I'm just trying to point out that your father most likely learned that from his own house hold growing up...my hubby is helpful and I feel that's because his father was/is helpful to his wife, they too, like he and I saw marriage as team work and a united force. =)
Sorry the comment box only allows so many words,so I couldn't fit this last bit into my last statement but I was trying to explain that your father most likely learned that from his house hold growing up not ads(or at least not JUST FROM ads.)Also in my opinion your mother should stand up for what she wants,if she expects/wants some help around the house she should say so.Or let his clothes go unwashed for a week and see what he thinks about that,ha ha.She needs to express herself if she hasn't.
And although I may take a different approach, I can still see where the "other side" - for lack of a better term there ;) , is coming from as well and I understand why some of them may be annoying to some folks.
By the way at least one of these was an edit...the one where she brings pizza home and the man is trying to act all tough on the phone, it doesn't end with him hanging up on her, it ends with her turning the sprinklers on the guys outside, soaking them for trying to have the "upper hand." lol. It's just a funny commercial about freakin' pizza, some of ya'll need to relax.
I've seen that commercial on tv and it didn't end with sprinklers, they just keep havin' a good time and the wife gets the pizza. Women are NOT always right on tv programming, they always SAY they're right, but the husband is the one you're supposed to agree with because he is cool and the mom's an uptight bitch and those same to "uptight mom" and "lay back dad" characters are used in the VAST majority of sitcoms. Women on tv are a joke.
Then you didn't see the commercial, because yes, it does end with her getting the sprinklers turned on...go look it up on Youtube. =) As for the second half of your comment to me...that is you opinion and you are entitled to it, just as I am mine.
I'm also not saying women shouldn't clean dumbass, but these commercials make it seem EXPECTED of women. Maybe we don't need to relax- maybe you need to pay attention to reality and get your head out of your ass. You're so freaking dumb I can't handle it.
I never thought that you were saying that women shouldn't clean...and I agree that to some extent it does come across as if it's "expected" but again it is because marketers are targeting who buy their products and the majority of shop goers are female...and to be more percise they are like me: married women with families, that's all I was getting at...I am far from ignorant and find your abrasive comments to me quite rude.
yep Happy, I could laugh if feminst brainwashed morons could, but the can't so I won't. It funny the pick a commerical to make there the point but using one where a women assualts 3 men.
Anyone who doesn't think this is completely sexist is a complete moron. How dare anyone compare the portrayal of men to that of women on television. Men are always the fun and relatable character, while women are the nagging, illogical and hated appendage.
You are seriously STUPID if you can't see this. Everyone who watches these commercials and thinks nothing of the themes are fools and would have claimed slavery not a sin in its day as well. You are all brainwashed & servants to corporations
"Men are always the fun and relatable [sic] character, while women are the nagging, illogical...appendage." What shows have you been watching? Because in what I've seen, the man is always portrayed as a bumbling idiot who can't do anything right without his wife's help. For example: Homer from The Simpsons, Doug from King of Queens, Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond, and that guy in the AT&T Vegas commercial.
LOL, what shows are those? Most I see make women the one that holds the family together while men are the beer bellied dumb asses...personally I think they should make men look better and yes,I'm a woman, a stay-at-home mother on top of it.I think people take these commercials too seriously, they are simply doing what marketers do, they find out who shops the most and is the most likely to buy their products then they simly pmarket to that group.A lot of women do do the shopping and cleaning. =)
yea, because youtube arguments are really at the heart of civilized discourse *sarcasm*
i'm not a news network- i don't purport to be without an opinion, and discrediting my argument because i call you "mean names" is not a valid one.
stop implicating i'm uncivilized and focus on the arguments i present. i only call people stupid when they say and believe stupid things. sorry, my opinion, and we're all entitled to our own.
avoiding addressing my arguments is just cowardly.
Thus far you have made no arguments with me. You have only said one snide remark, which was made disingenuously; and, you have made one insult against me. I, on the other hand, am waiting for you to address the 5 TV shows I brought up as examples. I have not been cowardly, I'm simply waiting for you to actually say something of meaning.
side note, these feminist complain about a woman pushing a broom, but I hear nohting about what we see here on u tube, when the women ASSUALTS a man by slapping the shit out of him for falling asleep and leangin on her n the Jimmy Dean Sausage comercial, look them up and cal them, I did. I forget the parent corp, but u'll find it, the freaking hypocrisy of people errr feminist like soupsoup!
the difference is that those are non-normative themes, and don't carry the oppressive, historical baggage women have of serving as near slaves to their homes and families.
plus, i never said men don't have their own obnoxious stereotypes to endure- you assume too much.
what i'd like to point out is that this video is a COMPILATION of women being portrayed in one way, while you're citing isolated examples of a FAR less common trend.
lol, yeah, how foolish I used specifics, relevant to the subject at hand and Jermaine to U TUBE, instead of just using Statistics, o wait, I did that also 50.3 CDS, but you wanted to brush off as if something other then WHAT IT IS!
And no, you dont have a solid argument, in todays west, discrimination against men is encouraged and legalized by our government Title 7 & 9, especially white men. Discrimination against women, leaves one In the category of the untouchables & is ILlegal.
I didn't chide you for using specifics. I apologized for not seeing it. Did you imagine I called you foolish for using statistics?
I asked you to specify something for me, and you're acting like I discredited the statistic.
I've seen how well Title 9 works. Girls' fields & equipment were crap and the boys' had everything. We were screwed 100% despite the fact that we went to CIF and the boys lost constantly.
you're insane if you think white men are the most oppressed group in the US.
lol, yes I'm insane, yet it IS THE LAW, the only 'group" as big daddy like's to define, that CANNOT file a discrimination suite with merit, is White, males under 40. THE ONLY GROUP!
As far as 9, lol yea it is real fair for guys who spend 15 years preparing can't get books paid for but girls like my sister get a 1/2 ride, and go out as an after thought for the track team. Her thought was, they gonna pay me, sure as long as I dont get borred with it. I put into 5xs the training into wrestling & had 2wice the talent. It;s not fair at all. Boys are attracted to sports but to make even they destroy wrestling & beg females to sigh up for girl teams.
You have no base in saying that women don't care about sports. How the hell would you know? I don't throw this word around lightly, but you are a sexist bigot.
You make shit up and don't know what the fuck you're talking about. It's like arguing with a child. By the way, 75% of batterers are men, which would be unsurprising to anyone without a huge bias and small brain.
You're living in the past, and whether you like it or not women are getting ahead, and finding equality- deal with it!
by the way you a LIar, I love thisw part when the little girl can no longer hide her ganer, lol I can see the fingers pusing away as the steam comes out of it's ears,
yes, and everything that happens in your life is a direct reflection of the rest of the world because everything that happens to you must happen to everyone else *sarcasm*
do you understand the importance of statistics, and the reason they exists? they exists to refute dumb, baseless claims like the once you continue to make.
why would I have empathy someone who is so weak at they have to CREATE a reason for others to feel sorry for them, eat some dam food. Regardless emotion is not intelligence, but nut jobs like you keep attending women studies classes and telling each other FEEELINGS high IQ and the West crumbles.

@carlinsaves All my comments here have been demonstrably true and accurate and you've failed repeatedly to prove otherwise. Fact.

My comments below are about how men are misrepresented by the media, I know that women are misrepresented too, I'm not denying that. Believe it or not, men can do housework lol.
carlinsaves 3 months ago
@carlinsaves Men run the media. They're like 90%+ of the writers and directors in Hollywood. If you don't like the way men are portrayed as bumbling idiots in the media, take it up with Seth McFarlane, Matt Groenig, Tim Allen, Judd Apatow, or the vastly male majority of advertising copy writers and creative directors.
NotADood 3 months ago

@NotADood Are you serious? lol wow...
carlinsaves 3 months ago
@carlinsaves Can't form a counter argument? lol wow...
NotADood 3 months ago
@NotADood No I can't, and you can't form an argument to support it. You can say "all men want to look like idiots" but that doesn't prove it's true. How about I say "all women want to look like whores." There, I said it. Is it true now?
carlinsaves 3 months ago

NotADood 3 months ago
@NotADood (part 3/4) Dumb humour is the most popular form of comedy. Women are supporting characters because mature characters in a comedy show always stand in the background. They traded laughing at themselves for feeling empowered because I guess women are more insecure than men. Back in the day these sitcoms used mutual cultural stereotypes of married people. The nagging wife with the husband who couldn’t do anything right.
carlinsaves 3 months ago
@NotADood (p 2/4) These commercials exist because of unoriginal writers, the whole women self-esteem movement and, maybe, because of feminists in the media. Secondly, the shows you mentioned are also not men loving to look like idiots, those shows are comedies because of the funny male characters. Homer and Bart, Peter, Tim Allen, they’re the main stars. The women are seen as not funny. They’re serious, smart, hard workers, wholesome and so on, while the man steals the show with his dumb humour.
carlinsaves 3 months ago

GTCism 1 year ago 25
@GTCism It's only sexist when they put you in a concentration camp and hit the switch for the gas in the showers. That's about the only time you could get a woman in the U.S. to admit sexism against men. The poster fails to comprehend that there is a 50% chance of females being portrayed doing housework in a perfectly asexual society (a BS idea anyway). But, no: it's bad if they're vacuuming! Maybe they should get thrown out of moving vehicles like men get on commercials.
Lachdenan 1 year ago
As soon as you start being as godlike and brillant as you want your image to be. Much fun trying and losing all self-esteem while you're at it.

Commercials don't really care what the 'men or women' roles are, they just investigate which target audience is most suitable to buy the product and they focus on that
its not sexist like men should be tough and doing job and women should be tender and cleaning and cooking etc.
Jackques 1 year ago
@Jackques What an outrageously stupid comment to make. Men are more than just being 'tough' and women are more than 'tender'...Commercials are full of sexism and stereotyping the genders into roleplaying that no longer represents Western Society.

Grandcrosssteve1 1 year ago
@mikej5337

Colfaxdruggie 2 years ago 5
I am getting sick of seeing the same kind of women in these commercials. The housewife, the soccer mom, the shody trying to get a career going because my husband is gonna leave me lady. Wow, my life doesn't look like this = how can I even relate/compete? LOL
PunchKnife5 2 years ago
Yep! My mom gets so mad when she sees these comercials! She is always complaining that they don't show men cooking dinner or vacuuming the rug. Its sad because its a commentary on reality. thecreepyguy 2 years ago
I'm not against the idea that women have it hard or harder then men, It's just that i can list you several ways in which men suffer that women don't, When most people decide to say "being a woman is hard" they always point to minority instances that do not effect their gender as a whole in the slightest, Of course some woman have it hard especially in middle eastern countries but it just isn't globally truthful to say women have it harder.
thecreepyguy 2 years ago
Creepy, in regards to the middle eastern countires, the only point that needs to made it MRM is in reference to western culture and regardless it is western feminist who do nothing but pay lip services to the plight of those in non western cultures using the hardship of others to advance their own selfish goals.
ORVX 2 years ago
I don't really want to argue this anymore as it will inevitably, Eventually, Turn into a competition on which gender has it harder, Keep in mind the initial comment was 3 weeks old.
And i don't really care for that, If women really have it harder then we should be helping them slightly more because they are slightly more hurt, But it is men (and young boys) committing the majority suicides, It is boys who are the majority of kids who feel their teacher doesn't listen to them.

Zero images of men and women working together.
zammmerjammer 2 years ago
Oh yeah, I'm a woman...
My husband doing laundry on tv...SEXIST!!!

yes, men are also unfairly represented but seldom are they objectified. women are a commodity in the media. also, it doesn't help for one woman to put another down by suggesting that their having an opinion about the nature of advertising distinguishes them as a "sensitive bitch." i actually find myself to be quite cold, and i am pissed by the representation of my gender in the media.

Happyone4 3 years ago 3
Also you have to look at when these commercials are running...most of these run during the day time, when as I said a mojority of people who are able to see TV at that time to catch the commercial are...drum roll please...WOMEN, Stay-at-home women thus more likely to be cleaning as part of their daily routine...so again they appear on TV at times that their consumers for that specific product will be likely to see them. =)
Happyone4 3 years ago 2
these adverts air constantly not just during the day
maybe if the addressed the adverts more towards men, men would get off their arses and do some cleaning
my mum for example earns more and works harder than my dad but she still does the cleaning, because he doesnt feel like its his job, its what he was taught in NZ through the media
maybe if we were exposed to adverts promoting symmetrical families they would exist
weareinwales 2 years ago
You talk about your mother earning more and working harder as if that gives her a right to not help around the house...marriage is a team effort in my home my husband is the one who works outside of the house and earns our money, and while I do some of the house work during the day hours since I'm a Homemaker, he is still VERY involved and helpful around here and with our daughter. We are a team. We don't view "this or that" as "his job or her job" just because I stay home. =)
Happyone4 2 years ago
Also I understand what you are saying, I'm not attacking you, so please don't take it that way just because you can't hear my infliction through this comment like you would be able to if we were speaking in person. I'm not being rude, I'm just trying to point out that your father most likely learned that from his own house hold growing up...my hubby is helpful and I feel that's because his father was/is helpful to his wife, they too, like he and I saw marriage as team work and a united force. =)
Happyone4 2 years ago
Sorry the comment box only allows so many words,so I couldn't fit this last bit into my last statement but I was trying to explain that your father most likely learned that from his house hold growing up not ads(or at least not JUST FROM ads.)Also in my opinion your mother should stand up for what she wants,if she expects/wants some help around the house she should say so.Or let his clothes go unwashed for a week and see what he thinks about that,ha ha.She needs to express herself if she hasn't.

Happyone4 3 years ago 2
I've seen that commercial on tv and it didn't end with sprinklers, they just keep havin' a good time and the wife gets the pizza. Women are NOT always right on tv programming, they always SAY they're right, but the husband is the one you're supposed to agree with because he is cool and the mom's an uptight bitch and those same to "uptight mom" and "lay back dad" characters are used in the VAST majority of sitcoms. Women on tv are a joke.
soupsoup12 3 years ago
Then you didn't see the commercial, because yes, it does end with her getting the sprinklers turned on...go look it up on Youtube. =) As for the second half of your comment to me...that is you opinion and you are entitled to it, just as I am mine.
Happyone4 3 years ago
I'm also not saying women shouldn't clean dumbass, but these commercials make it seem EXPECTED of women. Maybe we don't need to relax- maybe you need to pay attention to reality and get your head out of your ass. You're so freaking dumb I can't handle it.
soupsoup12 3 years ago
I never thought that you were saying that women shouldn't clean...and I agree that to some extent it does come across as if it's "expected" but again it is because marketers are targeting who buy their products and the majority of shop goers are female...and to be more percise they are like me: married women with families, that's all I was getting at...I am far from ignorant and find your abrasive comments to me quite rude.

You are all brainwashed & servants to corporations
soupsoup12 3 years ago
"Men are always the fun and relatable [sic] character, while women are the nagging, illogical...appendage." What shows have you been watching? Because in what I've seen, the man is always portrayed as a bumbling idiot who can't do anything right without his wife's help. For example: Homer from The Simpsons, Doug from King of Queens, Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond, and that guy in the AT&T Vegas commercial.
"How dare anyone compare the portrayal..."
Look at what you just did after that.

i'm not a news network- i don't purport to be without an opinion, and discrediting my argument because i call you "mean names" is not a valid one.
stop implicating i'm uncivilized and focus on the arguments i present. i only call people stupid when they say and believe stupid things. sorry, my opinion, and we're all entitled to our own.
avoiding addressing my arguments is just cowardly.
soupsoup12 2 years ago
Thus far you have made no arguments with me. You have only said one snide remark, which was made disingenuously; and, you have made one insult against me. I, on the other hand, am waiting for you to address the 5 TV shows I brought up as examples. I have not been cowardly, I'm simply waiting for you to actually say something of meaning.
menareangrynow 2 years ago 2
Actually, anyone get's there information mostly from TV can assuredly be thought to be almost always wrong.

side note, these feminist complain about a woman pushing a broom, but I hear nohting about what we see here on u tube, when the women ASSUALTS a man by slapping the shit out of him for falling asleep and leangin on her n the Jimmy Dean Sausage comercial, look them up and cal them, I did. I forget the parent corp, but u'll find it, the freaking hypocrisy of people errr feminist like soupsoup!
ORVX 2 years ago
the difference is that those are non-normative themes, and don't carry the oppressive, historical baggage women have of serving as near slaves to their homes and families.
plus, i never said men don't have their own obnoxious stereotypes to endure- you assume too much.
what i'd like to point out is that this video is a COMPILATION of women being portrayed in one way, while you're citing isolated examples of a FAR less common trend.
I feel I have a solid argument here.
soupsoup12 2 years ago
lol, yeah, how foolish I used specifics, relevant to the subject at hand and Jermaine to U TUBE, instead of just using Statistics, o wait, I did that also 50.3 CDS, but you wanted to brush off as if something other then WHAT IT IS!
And no, you dont have a solid argument, in todays west, discrimination against men is encouraged and legalized by our government Title 7 & 9, especially white men. Discrimination against women, leaves one In the category of the untouchables & is ILlegal.
ORVX 2 years ago
50.3% CDC nof CDS women 1st and primary aggresor.
ORVX 2 years ago
so it's 50/50...basically even...but still i bet that .3% are vicious *sarcasm*
soupsoup12 2 years ago
I didn't chide you for using specifics. I apologized for not seeing it. Did you imagine I called you foolish for using statistics?
I asked you to specify something for me, and you're acting like I discredited the statistic.
I've seen how well Title 9 works. Girls' fields & equipment were crap and the boys' had everything. We were screwed 100% despite the fact that we went to CIF and the boys lost constantly.
you're insane if you think white men are the most oppressed group in the US.
soupsoup12 2 years ago
lol, yes I'm insane, yet it IS THE LAW, the only 'group" as big daddy like's to define, that CANNOT file a discrimination suite with merit, is White, males under 40. THE ONLY GROUP!
ORVX 2 years ago
As far as 9, lol yea it is real fair for guys who spend 15 years preparing can't get books paid for but girls like my sister get a 1/2 ride, and go out as an after thought for the track team. Her thought was, they gonna pay me, sure as long as I dont get borred with it. I put into 5xs the training into wrestling & had 2wice the talent. It;s not fair at all. Boys are attracted to sports but to make even they destroy wrestling & beg females to sigh up for girl teams.
ORVX 2 years ago
You have no base in saying that women don't care about sports. How the hell would you know? I don't throw this word around lightly, but you are a sexist bigot.
You make shit up and don't know what the fuck you're talking about. It's like arguing with a child. By the way, 75% of batterers are men, which would be unsurprising to anyone without a huge bias and small brain.
You're living in the past, and whether you like it or not women are getting ahead, and finding equality- deal with it!
soupsoup12 2 years ago
by the way you a LIar, I love thisw part when the little girl can no longer hide her ganer, lol I can see the fingers pusing away as the steam comes out of it's ears,
actually men are 49.7% CDC
ORVX 2 years ago
yes, and everything that happens in your life is a direct reflection of the rest of the world because everything that happens to you must happen to everyone else *sarcasm*
do you understand the importance of statistics, and the reason they exists? they exists to refute dumb, baseless claims like the once you continue to make.
soupsoup12 2 years ago
make up your mind, throwing a hissy isn't gonna work on me, do you want real life acounts or stats, cuase I have both!
ORVX 2 years ago
stats dumbass.
soupsoup12 2 years ago

ORVX 2 years ago
I'm not.
It's amazing how crass you can be, but I guess I'm not surprised- empathy is an intelligent emotion.
soupsoup12 2 years ago
why would I have empathy someone who is so weak at they have to CREATE a reason for others to feel sorry for them, eat some dam food. Regardless emotion is not intelligence, but nut jobs like you keep attending women studies classes and telling each other FEEELINGS high IQ and the West crumbles.
