FYI, this is NOT an MD-80....This is either a DC9-30/40 or 50.....That is a JT8D-17 screaming out there...No MD-80 has ever been that loud in the back...Besides, the engine inlet is too small to be a JT8D-200 series of an MD-80..

It's not sucking exhaust, it's the equivalent of 'wet-wing effect'. Air is condensing out of the atmosphere as the pressure drops in the intake.

no explosion. There are a few moments of a sudden appearance of a white haze in the jets intake area in front of the fan. This is not smoke, it is water vapor

Did you notice the fog higher up? I'll bet humidity was very high.

This is a similar effect that fighter jets have on top of their wings in heavy wing loading situations where humidity is fairly high as well. The low pressure air can not sustain the amount of dissolved water in it and you get instant fog in that low pressure region
