Keep in mind, I am a high school band student who played this, but it seems like the Hispanic soloist in the middle is VERY sharp. She should've just sang a constant pitch.
Great piece, which I remember accompanying in high school back in the last century! As to folders/music, in principle choirs can and should use them in some cases. But that's no excuse for not looking up and out -- watching conductor and most importantly, putting the music across to the audience visually. This video shows both -- a few people making music and telling glad tidings and, unfortunately, several buried in their books. Still, very nice performance.
I agree with sftball. We did this song in HS concert choir. We had it memorized. no folders and we did it acapella. And this piece is easy compared to Hallelujah Chorus which we did for the same concert from memory and it was also acapella. This was in 1986!! We never had a concert where we were allowed to use folders.
Well, you're in college and the expectations are different. This is a church choir. Made of volunteers (remember that..). As the music director of a church myself, I am amazed by the talent in this group. This is a hard piece and I think they did very well.
I'm amazed that they are using folders. I'm in college and we are not allowed to use folders at any formal concert. If a group of college students can do it, why can't these people? Also, they need to work on 's' in the song. It doesn't sound very professional.
@jstaudt100 I do not think it's stupid. If you use folders, there is a chance that you will not be heard since you might be looking at the music. Also, if one is looking at the music, there is a chance that they will miss cues by the conductor.

Im 14 and my average high-school choir sang this all original at a holiday concert last week. We did it perfectly, and got a standing ovation. :)

Even the Robert Shaw Chorale used folders! That was a rather stupid comment you made!!
