good tip what else can a photographer do to soften sunlight on face?

The most important way I found to avoid this difficult situatuion is to move the subject. The sun is the sun and you can't soften the sun, except by using a shade and use what ever light reflects from elsewhere.

@L8DKDNA1 Too if you get close and use the flash to bring up your settings but that will won't be fun for the model or the person. Just move them man, avoid the big problem.
