  • To be a monk....what a journey.

  • i'd give my left arm to be able to join a monastary. Messed up and got put on ten yr felony probation for a theft by rec. in 2nd degree, now i am in bondage to that choice and can't get beyond it

  • @ghfjtuflhg when you get out--its not too late. You are a child of God, too.

  • God bless all the monks.

  • I have visited the monks at Gethsemani and they have opened my eyes to my vocation to the religous life.

    God Bless.

  • "GOD is not mad at you. Be His."

  • Love the handwritten note seen at 1:30 !!

  • @dylan618 I was very moved by that note -- and keep that sentiment with me in difficult times. God bless whoever put it there.

  • Beautiful

  • Anybody know the name of the hymn they're singing?

  • @belltownboy2012 Psalm 91.

  • As Dom James Fox often said, "All for Jesus, through Mary with a smile!"

  • Lovely.

  • when I was in college, they described the Trappists as the most dour and colorless of the orders, but I have come to see that their asceticism is anything but dry. I keep reading and hearing about Merton and other Trappist thinkers and love them more all the time.

  • Thank you for sharing! It is wonderful to hear the sounds of Compline as prayed by the monks of Gethsemani. Someday (God willing) I will be one of the voices in the choir of this holy place.

  • Thank you -- they would welcome your voice here...

"He shall cover you with his pinions,

and you shall find refuge under his wings; his faithfulness shall be a shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of any terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day.."

  • you want to be a trapist? I could not do the cloistered thin, I would go crazy in a week :). I want to be a Capuchin ranciscan of the renewal: They get the best of both worlds: They have a very contemplative prayer style (like a monk), they dedicate about 5 hours a day to prayer and the rest to the poor. they also have a direct line of hands on service to the poor. It is perfect for me.

  • That sounds like a wonderful mission and calling!

  • @cheesemonkey1990

5 hours to pray, and the rest to the poor? there's also time for sleeping, eating, masturbating, showering, and cleaning up the cloister.

  • @TheSunmanho not necessary.

  • I am one of the "progressive spiritual thinkers" that Thomas Merton inspired. Thank you for this video. Peace be with you!

  • And also with you.....

  • Thank you...this is wonderful!

  • Thanks very much -- it''s an incredibly peaceful place.

  • thank you for sharing this :)
