Wait, it was Keith that was in the pilot? So then, David took over from him to do the series. I must not have been paying attention back then, I was a fan of this show!
@yinyangnature ....yes, as Teal'c of SG1 would say, "INDEED"...;-)
the 1st time i realized that yin-yang /Tao principles were infused in Star Wars, i was a teenager waaay bak in old school days & u could barely find books/magazines on Star Wars (i lived in a southern hicktown, hah)..
Finally found a sci fi fanzine & an article on Star Wars / Jedi touched briefly on the Tao & similar things, i can still recall a tiny pic of the Taijitu / yin-yang diagram, truly inspiring, p3ace =][=
@robelicit You may be interested to know that whenever a census is done in my country (Australia), there are always a small percentage of people that state their religion as Jedi. Im sure if these people understood The Forces connection to Dharmic philosophy, they may have stated their spiritual interest as Taoist or Zen Buddhist.
@yinyangnature I always thought that George Lucas was a fan of eastern philosophy w/ all the talk about balance, feel but don't think, etc. Heck, Darth Vader's suit looks like Samurai armor. lol
Thanks for the share flybreath. Your words are so profound. Yes - only when we - Accept and Go with things are we truly able to feel at peace. Bad things happen that we have no control over, you have to Accept, and wait for The Universe to deliver up the Natural Order of Events. Its not being Weak or Giving In - its actually being Very Spiritualy Intelligent.
Of all the sayings from this series, this one stood out the most for me the first time I heard it. Can't believe something like this was actually on regular TV back during the '70s. That's just awesome...
Personally I prefer Munenori Yagyu's "The Book of The Family Traditions on The Art of War," its a bit more pragmatic. Yagyu talks about irredeemably corrupt people, and "doing what must be done." Of course, the book was written for people who hold political power; it was not written for the lay person. Nevertheless Yagyu argues that against some men, ruthlessness is perfectly justified in self defense. Not against most; just some.
I was thinking the force was loosely based on KI energy as in aiKI do, aiKI jujutsu which I believe is known as CHI in China...cuz George Lucas was influenced by old Japanese movies. The Jedi are sorta like Samurai, know what I'm sayin?
Wow.... that's some pretty good insight.... the jedi are a lot like samurai in regards to swordsmanship and following some sort of code to the affinity they have
On a side note: not sure why you were thumbed down for your comment. I thumbed you UP cuz you DESERVED it. I used to practice aikido btw.
thanks so much for posting all of these, they had an early influence on my life that I carry to this day, its awesome to have them at our disposal like this, instant tao

Loved this show.. I felt that the character, Kwai Chang Caine, was a very good role model, especially for us, who were martial arts students..

Ya, they don't make good shows like these anymore. I'm glad I got to taste some of the 70's. Good times growing up then.

The master speaks great English. Seems like someone in that place should have had a Chinese accent.

You are spot on buddy. George Lucas has a very keen interest in Eastern philosophy. "The Force" is just another name for Tao.
