@lionhearte1 : No. I remember the glorious days in Australia when we went to Mattins in the morning with a choir followed by at least two clergymen in procession and the most perfect of English and European music was performed with the Holy Bible read in the most perfect of English. We would go home to a roast dinner partially interrupted by listening to a radio program called ´Organists of Australia´. Then one would return to church for Choral Evensong before which the question would be as
@lionhearte1 : Now we have started chatting, oh lion-hearted one, this work was one of my late father´s favourites. There may be a record of him singing this as the soloist counter-tenor ! (a) ´Television´ killed this ; (b) general disobedience to the Lord´s Day killed this ; (c) WWII becoming a distant memory killed this ; (d) multiculturalism killed this ; and, finally the general profligacy of the Lord´s Day killed this. The memories remain ! You should start a Lord´s Day Observance Society
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today, we sang a hymn as our Hymn of the Day set to a tune composed by Wesley. It was AURELIA. The hymn was O Living Bread from Heaven, written by Johann Rist and translated by Catherine Winkworth. It is #542 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. Just thought I'd share.
Absolutely beautiful, Wayne. The choir, and your soloists sound fantastic. Love the pace of your accompaniment, too. A lot of people don't realize how much talent it takes to direct from the organ bench - it is multi-tasking in its most difficult, and finest in your case. Very inspiring!
Wayne, the melody lines and the voices from the choir made this piece so lovely, I listened to this hymn several times. Thank you dear brother
