MMA is a sport more than worthy of official recognition and acclaim.
Breaking through decades of corrupt black-market boxing/fighting officialdom is not going to be easy nor swift.
Classic example is Don King for one.

Its hard to believe that the city that is always so far ahead of the curve on everything can be so far behind on this. MMA is now a martial art in itself, a global phenomenon, and highly organized. How NYC has not already sanctioned the SPORT is beyond me or anyone else with common sense.
