  • man great videos! I really enjoy watching them! True inspiration!

  • Holy shit 1:39 looks dangerous

  • Hey bro when doing olympic lifts do you go heavy some days and light others?

    All the best!!

  • Hey bro when doing olympic lifts do you go haevy some days and light on others?

    All the best!!!

  • thats what i call a cool training video!

the plyometric bench pressing looks cool :)

  • What called that what he doin 0:40-0:46?

  • yeee reppin canada what part are you from

  • @james87876 Thanks bro

  • Great work, Great vid

  • This is 5 star training :D

  • holy fuck this guy is 10x stronger than he looks

  • Your a really strong and athletic guy!! I have a lot more respect for your sport now! Impressive

  • BEAST

  • the bench press with a toss and catch is a very common technique for throwers!

  • @yulian1234 so what if he is an Olympic athlete, if you knew anything and you happened to be coaching, would you want your son or daughter to do that? I've been around many world class throwers and nobody, NOBODY ever did that, and nobody ever coached it either. Its only one stupid thing, but it could be very dangerous, especially if a young thrower tried it on his or her own, dont you think?

  • I have to agree that the bench press with the toss and catch technique is quite dangerous. Thats what medicine balls are for, besides its still not that explosive of a movement. It might be for bench pressing but not for a thrower.

  • @SuperOlds88

If he threw a medicine ball up im not entirely sure it would come back down

  • he is a fucking olympic athlet

  • I need to start doing shit like that.

  • @MrHav1k I liked the part where he threw the bench-bar with like 200 lbs of weight on it. :D

  • bigger the muscles doesnt mean the more strength u have. its all about CORE strangth. lol i prefer having big muscles rather than strangth

  • WOW @ 2mins haha dayam son

  • you are a machine man!!!

  • throwing the barbell in the air for the bench press dosnt seem to benefit you anymore then a regular bench press and is dangerous why take a risk of that landing on you if you dont have too

  • it is far more explosive than regular bench press. It is most often done with a smith machine but that way works as well. Very good lift for power athletes.

  • its more of a plyometric exercise. Its really dangerous but it helps increase power.

  • his mixing his workout, havent you ever notice when working that mixing your workout even if its just small, give you more benificial.

  • it helps with explosion

  • Incredible strength, great power, but if you are serious about 2011 WC or London, your technique needs more attention. Oly lift technique is horrible and much work needed in your discus as well. I'm not saying this to be argumentative or negative, I have seen so many good athletes get carried away with their strength work, especially in high force exercises, that they neglect their techniques. The attention to detail we give our mundane proves in our product.

  • @decadoc

His oly lifting technique is good enough to avoid injuries. He doesn't care about the perfect clean/snatch. What he does is enough for him. About his discus technique, Dario is already a world class thrower and I'm sure he knows what he's doing and don't need advice from someone on youtube (no offense). Discus technique always has a room for improvement during the career of any thrower and Dario knows that.

  • well said and you are right i have throwen almost 65 meters , 212 feet and there is always room for improvement i have friends who throw 69 meters and they can still improve their technique so nobody is perfect, when you throw 65 meters you must be doing something right

  • Dario, keep up the good fight, didn't mean offense by anything, just trying to be helpful.

  • I disagree with your statement that 1) his lifts are good enough for his intent and 2) they are safe. First of all, if he fails to improve his catch (specifically the VERY wide foot position during the clean AND the snatch) he is at risk of serious knee injury or chronic medial knee strain that will limit his ability to train. Second, I only made the comment that world class athletes attend to every detail the way they should attend their craft.

  • The technical flaws I see in his discus throw, while minor and correctable, are limiting his performance and the evidence of a lack of diligence in his Olympic exercises is an indication of the same behavior. So much for trying to be helpful.

For the record, I hold a Masters Degree in human performance, have been a certified strength & conditioning specialist since 1995, have coaches 292 college All-Americans and was a 70m javelin thrower myself. No offense taken.

  • Again, it works for him. He's been training that way for years and he didn't have injuries related to his oly lifting. Look at Primoz Kozmus training. He's power cleaning 170 kg for reps, without dropping the bar on the floor. Someone would call that dangerous (olympic lifts are not meant to have the eccentric portion of the lift right?) but he won the 2008 Olympics and 2009 Worlds in hammer, so who are we to criticize him? Hoffa does some weird lifting as well.

  • i'm a discus thrower where are u from?

  • Canada

  • @dario2004 did u throw in the olympics?

  • PLYOMETRICS!!!!

  • great foot work i tried throwing in high school and i didnt have the patience for it

  • great vid. n to all you dumbshits that never threw a shot put or discus. hes training to b explosive n strong in his legs. and developing his arms to help peak out the disc. but i guess none of u ignorant pricks wuld kno that right? great vid man. keep up the training.

  • that was a strong dunk at 2:50..everything in this video was just awesome

  • Thanks a lot bro

  • you big, not like Jay cutler big, but they def cannot do what you do man. good job.

  • Thanks bro

  • why the fuck he would train like bodybuilder, or why the hell jay cutler would train discus throwing? seriously. thinking before posting is allowed.

  • no shit special one, just say this is the difference between them. in my book he is way better.

  • @hoemmed he's training mainly power- doing things like snatch, explosive pushups etc, and also advanced strength like throwing on the chains (flipping the force curve on it's head), whereas bodybuilders train mainly for hypertrophy. Nice vid man, very inspirational

  • Thanks so much

  • You are INSANE! This is pure inspiration man.

  • Thanks a lot

  • dude is an ANIMAL

  • very impressive, such well rounded strength. you're a crazy bastard man. what food, whey, and timing before and after do you suggest? i power lift, nothing like that lol but makes a man insane hungery i know, awesome, just awesome lifts, can't mess up mentality on those bench tosses lol good luck Dario.

  • thanks bro, i always have a shake of protein whey protein 45 minutes before workout and within 30 minutes of finishing my workout and i eat a lot of carbs like rice and quinoa and i try to eat 8 times a day but smaller meals

  • Wish I had this type of explosive strength. I aspire to have explosive strength like this one day.

  • amazing explosive strength

  • lol your behind the neck jerk is whats gonna win you that shit haha impressive man impressive

  • Holy crap you are strong!

    Impressive explosiveness too!

Really inspiring for my workouts, thanks. :)

    great work.

  • you are so inspirational.

  • you, sir, are my hero

    *****

  • i been training for 12 years

  • did u not end up going to the olympics?

  • he went and now hes training for londons 2012

  • dude is that drive gym in richmond!?!?!

  • how much weight was that at :58

  • the explosive thing? well at the ymca that i train at the highest it has is 120 but idk about where hes at

  • this totally reminds of of like a cheesy 80's rocky montage. but i love it.

  • im also a discus thrower for my school and also do oly lifting...any tips? BTW i used some of the exercises that are on this vid and they helped out a lot. I find myself wore out by the middle of the week...any dietary recommendations?

  • you rock man ! you rock !!

  • lol idiot

  • Well then, why the fuck aren't you competing in the Olympics? Oh, because you just like to talk shit and pretend to be a hard ass. Go grow up and quit being a douche. Some people like to work hard and acheive things, just because they're more successful doesn't mean you have to hate. Little jealous maybe? Fag.

  • How do these discus throwers not pull their backs out?

  • gud vid!

  • Too much weight training....see Werner Gunthor training video for inspiration....

  • @JohnFPoirier hes a maniac

  • The throw and catch bench pressing looks so dangerous!

  • dude for real work on olympic weightlifting technique and be a weightlifter.

  • i know seriously

  • INSPIRATION RIGHT THERE MATE!! Training for the 2010 Winter Olympics for the New Zealand Bobseligh team but with lack of funding it'll be more like 2014. We do a lot of similar exercises but definitely not the same weights you do mate - awe-inspiring. :)

  • Thanks mate for the great comment, good luck with your training and train hard

  • Gl with 2012 training, shame (i assume) 08 didnt work out.

  • 2008 did work out, but i needed one more standard to do and there was lack of fundng from the federation so i could not travel to do the meet outside the country, Politics man

  • What is your weekly workout routine like while training for the olympics im 15 and i need a Routine For FOOTBALL and i am serching and im hoping that you can help me out

  • good video great technician but your video seems to be pretty weight room bias not quite as much throwing.

  • yeah it is but hes serious beast in the weight room

  • People like you give in incrediable amount of effort!!

  • You are everything I inspire to be. Next Pyrros Dimas.

  • Unreal, definitely going to be keeping an eye out for you in 2012!

  • I went to school in Canada in Manitoba

  • LOL at 1:45

  • do you squat dario?

    btw your a beast lol

  • hey my goal is to make it to the crifta games ,its the biggest games in the carribean.i dont have a coach anymore can you give me some tips to train by my self, also when i throw i feel like 39point6meters is my limit and its not good enough u think u can help me 2 pass my mark

  • hey, i Live in the bahamas , i'm the best at the discuss, i throw a 39point 6 with a 2k, now when i see these guys spin after they throw is that wrong or right because my coach is get pissed off when i spin after i release the disscuss

  • well for some people its right for some people its not right to reverse after the throw it depends what works for you if you are very tall you don;'t have to reverse but it all depends i prefer to reverse but you have to make sure you hit you block hard before you reverse

  • Thats so sick...whats the point of the chains..are they just simply there to add weight or does it have some other purpose

  • Ever heard of accommodating resistance? Strength curve? Obviously not.

  • elaborate?

  • Not enough space in youtube comments for a detailed explanation. It's about accommodating resistance throughout the entire range of motion rather than a specific point. The force of the movement is less at certain joint angles on squat, bench press or even chins like dario does. For example, when you're bench pressing with chains, the weight is the lightest at the bottom because the chains are on the floor but it's heaviest on the lockout because the chains are off the floor.

  • So, you're working through the entire ROM but you are adding an additional load to the joint angles where you are the strongest. So, you're working through the strength curve. When you're working without the chains, only your weakest point is getting the maximum work.

  • I hope you know that you are my new Idol now!! And I definetly want your Trainingsplan !! XD You are pure Power!! And pure Motivation in 1 Person!!! Just amazing!!! hope can get any close to this in about next 10 years!! Just hardcore!!

  • Thanks a lot man and train hard, with hard traning and dedication you can be in the Olympics too

  • wow serious athlete

  • How'd you go, did you make it to the olympics? some radical training there, those bench press throws are insane, some very impressive power cleans.

  • God damn.

The whole bar is bending on the close grip bench hahaha

  • silly question...but do you know a ryan vierra and a coach mac from moorpark college? if you do...i think i met you before at ryans house before a track meet...it was early in the morning before you left..

  • yeah i know them both and i remember the morning when i left before the meet , we all met at Ryan's house

  • how far you throw shot and discuss ??

  • what a BEAST

  • That was really inspiring, man. Makes me want to learn olympic lifts instead of just doing powerlifts.

If that whole discus thing doesn't work out, I bet you'd be a nasty strongman, haha.

  • thanks a lot man, thats was grat to hear, yeah maybe i will do some strongman in the future

  • Awesome vid, 3:09 had me in awe. Good luck in London!

You also know one of my good friends called Jacques Martin, and he told me that one day you would like to come in Sherbrooke to meet the throwers there? I would be really happy if you do because I would be so happy to meet you in person one day. Good luck with your training and congrats for your results! :)
