Everyone in America knew who was getting the ball and look at what he accomplished. I will always be grateful for him not joining another team and even now still being involved with the Lions even though he has every reason to be bitter. I'm also glad he still has great health(He was always too quick to take the big hit) and If you look up his numbers, it is mind blowing. We are lucky to see him run in our lifetime
@JOESTEF20 You are 100% right about! As a Green Bay fan I saw him kill us for years! I know the Bears and the Bucs are also on The Barry Sanders highlight list!
@kbotpop That was a thanksgiving game in 97 and might have been one of his best game as a pro. He did that the entire game 19 car,167 yds, 3TDs and we killed the Bears 55-20 on Thanksgiving. I remember it because it was such a great performance to see and my dad is a die hard Bear fan. I don't know if you are a Lions fan but that was one of the best days ever to be a Lions fan. Sorry for the life story, It's just cool that you gave props to that particular play
Not even close! LT in my eyes maybe the most complete running back the game has seen He had hands like marshall with the stats to prove it but could run in between the tackles 40 times a game. However he did have LORENZO NEAL for a lot of years arguably the best pure blocking full back ever.Barry needed no blocker but when he did get one he ran for 2,000 yds his 9th year in while other backs did it early..Every record in college Gave away the nfl AT rushing record insane highlightreel nuff said!
Foolioperez I didn't say he he had a all pro line. But it wasn't as bad as you said. The main problem was it wasn't a power line like the cowboys' line was that blew people off the ball. It was more a line for pass blocking. I remember all the negative yardage plays he had. Play of that was the scheme too. They played more the chuck and duck ...err...run and shoot lol. No tight end most of the time.
Oh and since I am here.... Many folks talk about Barry didn't have a line. Yes he did. I would rather have have Kevin Glover and Lomas Brown than Raiola and Jeff Sackus. People forgot Ultey would have gotten better if he didn't get hurt and Eric Andolsak(sp?) didnt get killed.
@Deefreeze His line did suck lomas was good as was glover but how many times were there multiple defenders in the backfield??? Pound for pound their line was mediocre at best two guys wasnt enough! Frankly im glad he didn't have that great of a line because it added to his legend....
I got a chance to actually say this to their faces before...but I want to say it here too. I was always really impressed with how hard Herman Moore and Brett Perriman blocked downfield on Barry's runs
4.27 40 at ok st. his combine time was 4.37 but i read a story where he got out of the car w/o even warming up, ran it and that was that. he was prob doing sub 4.25 later in his career. speed demon freak
After Watching this, and Being a Huge Adrian Peterson Fan... Sorry. Barry Sanders is 100000X better than AP. Barry sanders could run with any kind of offensive line. period.
@SpeedWarrior93 He was a starter then. That's why they say "you know that's some kind of respect" when he pats Barry on the head. They wouldn't say that if he were just some backup QB.
Give him the same line that Emmit Smith had and those records would never get touched. The man was hamstrung by a weak team and still will go down as one of the top backs of all time.
@DjOnizZz18 INSANE VISION. He sets up blockers 20 yards down the field on the other sidelines. I dont know how anyone can watch this and not say he is the greatest ever, all the evidence is there. Walter Payton and OJ Simpson(who didnt do it long enough) are the only ones that can even put up arguments.
Best Highlight film of Barry ever! 1. I can actually see whats going on. 2. Holy shit! Barry is hella fast. Never realized how quick he really was. 3. why is his jersey so big? I think he would've been even greater if he did something so simple as wore a smaller jersey. I mean defenders are just clutching for dear life hoping to grab something and sometimes they got a hold of his jersey.
Holy crap.... that series of moves he pulls @2:33 against the vikings are unbelievable (as accurately depicted by the announcer). It was only about an 8 yard gain, but his movement amidst that flurry of defenders is like that of a cheetah being pursued in close quarters by a bunch of humans without weapons.
In a word.....RIDICULOUS! This is one of the absolute best "Highlight" packages I've ever witnessed......of any athlete......at any time! I'm practically ashamed to admit I almost FORGOT just how good Barry Sanders truly was. This video is the equivalent of being "zapped" by a taser......my memory has been shocked back into focus.
The way Barry ran he could have gone another 5 seasons.......maybe the last two as a scat back but he never sustained major injuries and he would have converted to an awesome 3rd down back.....coulda woulda shoulda broke every rushing record...
Thank you (thank you!) for leaving in the original broadcast audio. I can't stand the ones who take away the excitement of the moment and slather a terrible song on top of it.
I was just wondering where you get alot of these highlights because unfortunately I never got to see sanders play and I was looking to find some of his greatest games. Great highlights by the way!
Nobody ever, ever in the history of the league had that kind of eceleration on his 2nd step.Nobody. He literally runs faster through the hole before it can close. In some cases there isn't going to be a hole but he runs faster than the development of the hole and hits a lane into the linebacker area. Unreal. Looking back on these highlights it's more obvious that there is a before and after affect. I haven't seen him in a while. Now I can clearly say. The best.
3:43-3:55 It seemed like he was holding it a little. Then he let it loose, then continued to talk normally as if he had to wait for Barry to get to the endzone.
I love this video, shows Barry at his purest. I hate how announcers today say a back made one great cut. When Barry had to make great cuts just to get to the line of scrimmage, then made guys look silly with 3 more cuts on his way, to getting 10 yards, yet alone 50-80 yards.
@psx2514 the penalty was on the right tackle for holding. so the play was called back. (could have not been called) That run was the next possesion play after barry's previous run of 73 yards. DAmn shame. It would have set a record to have had a 73 yard td run followed by a 80 yard td run, in less than a minute of game play. ( look at the clock) I was watching this game with my dad, and he started screeming at the TV "GO BARRY GO "cuz he was so excited, during the second run.
Thanks for posting these full speed highlights. It really shows how super quick and fast Barry was. It's nice to see the whole run when he breaks away for a touchdown. He's my favorite running back no question.
I had this one Bears game taped where Barry made this famous 50 yard TD where he spins off Singletary and hops over another Bear for the score. That was a great run but he had actually made another one that was even more spectacular earlier that game for only 10 yards that was similar to this run against the Vikings at 2:37.
The color commentator couldn't believe it and had made some remarks about how there weren't things at NASA that could reproduce what Barry was doing. I lost that tape!:(
The run at 2:37 is mind numbing. I wish it had been shot in HD so that people could truly appreciate how good he was. In my opinion some of his best runs were for 10 yards and under.
There is no one who runs like this in the league today. Don't get me wrong, the league is full of very talented running backs... but no one can make something out of nothing like this guy did and make it look ridiculously easy. The play starting at 8:25 .... how the hell did he even squeeze in there? I literally busted out laughing.
I personally thought in 98 he was best he was. Stats wise no but that's down to the team around him. Which was poor that year. Agreed he got quicker with age. Unusual for a back but Barry was one of a kind.
Pause the highlight reel at 2:40....Whomever #93 was for the Vikings (John Randle, maybe? I don't know) was trying to do his best pre-Brian Dawkins flying tackle impersonation....but failed epically....LMAO
No probs. There are alot of nfl fans who didnt get to see Sanders games. There are lots of highlights in slow motion, but not many from the original broadcasts . Hopefully my highlights can give those who didnt see him back then, a better idea of how good he was.
@rocket26a YOU DAMN RIGHT.....THE BEST HIGHLIGHT REEL ON YOUTUBE!! i know first hand ive watched everyone of them..lol... by the way what other RB past or present has this amount of body control..(2:37)
@foolioperez that run gained only 10 yds and may be one of the greatest runs of all time. Your right Barrys balance, footwork, vision can never be duplicated. People always talk records for Payton and Emmitt but Barry owns most of them except for most rushing yds and touchdowns but Barry played 3 years less than Payton and 5 years less than Emmitt. If he would have played as long as Emmitt his stats would truly be untouchable
