  • yeah i agree the tv series sucked. the books are far far more entertaining.

  • I like the Codex Alera

  • Oh look, it's the main core source of producing the Dresden files TV series. What? You CHANGED things?

    One word.

    Feugo.

  • 6:28 She was so happy when he complimented her question. Sweet. :)

  • he siad d-e-d dead. he has watched The Gamers!

  • So unlike Jim to taunt and poke the fans the entire time.

  • AH SPOILERS

  • I just noticed the discussion on the whole D-E-D Dead thing....it is a well known thing. I have heard that and used it before, long before I heard this interview, so to any wondering if Jim can spell the word "dead", HE CAN!! Sheesh.

  • Does anyone know where I can find a book by book synopsis or summary? I have read the first 6, been a while, want to read the rest and be refreshed on what has happened without re-reading. I would re-read but don't have the time. Please help!

  • Greatest popcorn ever!

  • The Don in Robin Hood Men in Tights says "He'll be Dead D-E-D DEAD!" It's a reference...

  • @Shaman1776

And that was a reference to older bugs bunny cartoons.

  • he was definitely being funny.

  • Or maybe he misspoke

  • No. Hes making a pun. Duh. Or is that spelled D'oh? My goodness you people have no sense of humor.

  • He was PROBABLY quoting the Clown played by John Leguizamo in 'SPAWN': "You're dead. D-E-D. Dead."

The guy is obviously well-educated and literate, with a wicked sense of humor.......

Clown was wrong about Spawn being dead, so maybe Butcher IS foreshadowing by using that quote; or maybe he just used it as a retort to her pushing about Uncle Justin still being alive and manipulating things from behind the scenes. But he certainly doesn't spell dead 'D-E-D' because he doesn't know better. Geez.

  • To a certain extent. This guy has written in one of his books that people use 10% of their brain capabilities. This is a belief spread by spiritists and other psychics and has nothing to do with science. People use most of their brain capabilities and most of the brain itself. Ofc, they can make it more efficient by trying.

But other than that, you are right.

  • what bothers me is that hes a writer and he spelled dead deed.

  • Actually he spelled it D.E.D. Jim Butcher is an educated person and it's obvious that he's the kind of person who would lay out a clue or some subtle foreshadowing such as this from his books. Also he changes his wording from of course he is dead to he's dead ded dead. He would not have included DuMorne and given so much detail in more than one book if he wasn't going to play an important role. I think it's either an Acronym or a hint that he's dead for now though Necromancy can change that.

  • so you think DuMorne is still alive then or in someway will becomming back into ther series? Id agree with that.

  • Guys! THis is Jim Butcher, the man behind the Skull, nad the Wizard, and the Incubus, and need I go on? I think he was joking. Justin is D-E-A-D!!!

Persoanlly, I think it's The One Who Walks Behind.

  • look bottom line I think its funny he spelled dead ded.

  • No. DuMorne is Ded.

  • Im just having fun with this

  • no the dresden files are in the u.s. its played on scifi...or was, the season's over, u can buy the dvd's, i got em at best buy, but if u ask me the books are way better than the series, books have way more detail and have a better story line, plus the series characters look nothing like they are described in the book, but the series is still good

  • @dabears187

I know. Love the series when you take it seperate from the book. But, i admit, when i first saw the series, I was hoping to see Dresden in his signature cowboy boots, sweatpants, and brown duster.

If you don't compare the books with the show, it's a good show. Compare them, nah...

  • @nate556 don't forget the *cough* hat, hahahahaha

  • I didnt no there were movies or tv seriers, im guessing it not in america? im 14 and live in the us im guessing its not out here?

  • The series aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2006. Look for it on YouTube.

  • I love this sarcasm, you would know he's the author or Dresden even without a label.

  • Very good series that take you for a ride. Think old detective series mixed with magic that make it a great read on any day, rain or shine.

  • are these books good? i might pick up a copy of storm front

  • Much , much better than the tv series

  • yeah, where is the next following season???

  • As of now there are no plans to make one (or if there are it isn't well known yet) but there are initiatives to convince the makers to do another season. Check the Wiki page on Dresden (TV Series) but I think it's something like 'write SAVE DRESDEN on a drumstick and send it to the head of Sci Fi' or sth.

  • He says that Justin is dead, but couldn't he just come back as a ghost?

  • that is entierly possible but in my opinion if Justin was as powerful and evil as he is being made out to be, do you think he would die in a fire? I mean the one girl survived (name escapes me at the moment) and she was weaker then Justin. So why wouldn't Justin survive I mean it just makes for a better story.

  • also Elaine (thats the name) survied being in the house on fire but Justin got hit by dresdens fire magic.

  • yea I know thats big clue right there but in the end no of that really matters because bob survived, so what one you one? I just finished white night was so bored read it in one shot.

  • bob didn't suvive. bob is a spirit of air who lives in a skull. he was never technichally alive.

  • yeah, but he already used it in grave peril so isn't it like a writing world capital crime or somthing

  • I don't get it?

  • I'm saying that no writer worth his salt reuses a plot point

  • ok, I get it

  • Well he got what he wants from his books from me. And he deffinetly based Harry of himself, Jim is such a smartass.

  • "That was great! Where's the next one?"

    Mission accomplished Jim

  • Who ? Not Harry, not Jim. Do you mean blunty 3000 ?

  • has anyone else noticed the blunty3000/jim butcher similarity? looks, sarcasm, facial expression...eerie

  • 20 books and a trilogy? I LOVE YOU JIM~

  • Each book is better than the last. Great to finally see the i/v with Jim. Re the tv series,I am getting used to Bob as a ghost in human form, had an Alan Rickman visual in my head, but I'll adjust. He's very believable. Harry is great, strangely, he has mannerisms reminiscent of JM the man many fans wanted for the part, which helps the perception adjustment from book, to audio, to screen very smoothly. Well done. Thank you for the interview and the Dresden clips.

  • Great to finally see Jim Butcher. Haven't been able to make it to any of the conventions he has been at yet. Me want Summer Knight audio and the tv series.

  • awsome love his books

  • Its good to hear straight from the author in person about the characters rather than indirectly on websites. Good vid!

Dresden Files is a great seires and i hope jim continues the series for years to come. The codex Alera series is good as well. I can't wait for the dresden files tv series!

  • Whit Knight IS the next Dresden Files book. According to Jim Butcher's website it is due out in April of 2007

Mac evil ? No way, man. Not only did he loan his car to Harry knowing what Harry ( or any wizard really) might do to the car but he feeds the wizarding community in Chicagoland and you would think someone would have got a whiff of something if Mac was any less than a stand-up kind of guy.

  • This might not be the right place for it, but I have two questions.

Is White Knight the next Dresden Files book? If so, when does it come out?

Second, does anyone else think Mac, the bartender, might be more important than he seems? Maybe even...EVIL!

  • hope not, it's a basic archetype of fantasy literature: the bartender knows everything, and you don't pick a fight with them; you haven't payed off your tab yet. (ex.) butterbur, rosmerta, duke, Ton. if you recognize all of these, you need to stop reading fantasy for a while.

  • For someone like me who rarely gets to go to a convention it was a treat to hear and see this interview. He doesn't look like someone who has spent much time in front of a camera but it doesn't stop his personality from coming through. Must try out one of the audio books..

  • Very nice. He is TOO cool. I just finished listening to Grave Peril and while Harry isn't Jim they both are smart and funny and dedicated.

  • OK, third try at posting this - Anxiously anticipating James' reading of Summer Knight as it was James who brought me into the Jim Butcher fold. Now the only thing I need is to get to meet Jim. Thanks Jim for many wonderful reads and listens! Tonie (Spicywings)

  • I finished reading Proven Guilty as well. It just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait for White Knight to come out but I think we'll get Summer Knight on CD before White Knight comes out in print. Then there is the TV program, YIKES. January '07 ?

OK, ok SciFi won't screw it up , right ? Well they haven't hurt Doctor Who so maybe it'll be great.

  • He's mind kind of guy. Keeping it real while dishing out the best popcorn I've ever read. Can't wait for the series to show up on SciFi, for "White Knight" to come out and of course getting my hands on Summer Knight as soon as it comes out in MP3.

  • Great interview! I'm such a fan of Jim Butcher's writing (I also own all three audio books, and I can't wait for the audio version of "Summer Knight"!), but this was the first time I'd ever seen him speak. He seems like he'd be such a fun guy to hang out with in person!

  • Yay! Thanks for sharing the interview with us!

  • Justin is dead..ded dead ? Thought characters get resurrected a lot in Fantasy and Science Fiction.

Oh well he ought to know, he is the author :)

I'm crossing my fingers about the TV series. His stuff certainly translated very well into audio but heck he has James Marsters doing the narration and they are word for word unabridged. Here's hoping.

  • It was a tremendous honor to be asked by Buzzy Media to do this interview, as I had for years been a fan of the Dresden Files, and a new fan to the Codex Alera. He is even nicer in person than this clip can show! As a fan, listening to the audio books adds another layer as James Marsters does such a super job with all the voices, especially Bob's! I can't wait for the TV show to start!

  • I've listened to Storm Front, Fool Moon, and Grave Peril over and over and read all the books so I can't fully express how good it was to hear and see Jim Butcher !! I just knew he would be cool. Love that he embraces the idea if entertaining people. He sure has entertained ME :)
