VOTE YES FOR OVEREXTENDED. I've been disillusioned with T2 and extended for about 2 years and have all but quit, overextended would literally bring me back to Magic.
I disagree about Wizards coming to their senses when they made Mercadian Masques. A lot of people quit the game when they saw the clear drop in card power versus Urza's Block. Yeah, it was good to get away from crazy stuff like Tolarian Academy, but they took it too far.
I would love this because it first off, I don't have a lot of money (being 16) and would love to still play ravager (it rotates in the fall). I would greatly welcome this format. that is all.
most definitely agreeing with you that overextended just might revolutionize the game once more...with that big a playing field of cards it's gonna be awesome,so people better'd be prepared for more insane sh**...the fact that some of them get reprint potential and could come back to standard play is what i'm looking forward to the most!!! (wish they'd go back one more block and start with the artifact cycle though) urza's saga/destiny/legacy,but that just might be too bonkers
Just wondering if it might be a little inaccessible to new players who don't have a huge collection and a great knowledge of old cards, but then again just the variety of new decks that would be entering a competitive environment might make it worth it
I finally got a chance to draft with this set and i must say i was very impressed. First i tought of going Green / Blue, but seeing a lot of black come my way, i went Green / Black and got cards like Aura Gnarlid twice, an Ogre Cleaver and my bomb was a Guul Draz Asassin. I went 4 - 0 and got a Vengevine as my only good rare. Funny thing is, that the last few drafts had Gideon Jura, where mine hadnt.
yeah, legacy scares me, i dont like losing on turn 1, even if i pact of negation the turn 1 win then im still gonna lose cuz i wont be able to pay the 5 mana for it... ^-^ its like whoever goes first wins...
They would need to ban all those cards you mentioned + planting + some overpowered combo pieces like probably minds desire or some important card from dredge.
I don't think the price of legacy is all that bad and I guarantee that it isn't price that's keeping people from playing it. Most of the cards that are needed in the format are only the cost of some of the cards currently printed (Jace, Gideon). I don't think it is any more difficult to assemble a legacy deck than it is to create a standard deck at this time.
@fanica31 A format is a number of cards/sets that you can build decks from. For example with Standard, you have the last two blocks (Shards of Alara and Zendikar block) and the last base set - Magic 2010. For Extended, it's the last 7 years of cards -- from Mirrodin and 8th Edition onwards. Legacy is a format with no year/set restriction -- it has ALL the cards from ALL sets and a banlist. Vintage is the same.
@Paboty You are correct, I should've been more specific. Vintage has a banlist (Ante cards, etc) and a Restricted List for things like Moxes, Lotus, Ancestral, Brainstorm, etc.
I started in Mercadian Masques, I love the idea of Overextended. I've been working on a legacy zoo deck for over a year now, and I barely have half the mana base complete. Fetch lands + duals = ouch in my wallet and trade binder. I miss using a lot of cards that don't stand a chance in legacy, but aren't legal in standard or extended.
ithink overextended will be a good thing seeing that some staples avalible for cheaper and more use. plus the fact that i started in masks. i love legacy but its way too much money
It would be interesting...alot more creative and constructed...but one problem...i am a younger aged player...not much money to throw around on cards...but i do have alot of old 'banned' or 'restricted cards' and i would like to see how they would run in a fun deck thrown into a bunch more of old meets new style of gaming
I love legacy. I really dont see overextended replacing nor changing legacy in any ways. Honestly, I'm not so impressed with this overextended thing. Ppl will play it for sure, but ppl will play legacy too. And most importantly i really really find legacy more interesting and challenging than any other format.
"Overextended", I like the name, but no I don't like the format. I really like all those old cards. That's the whole point in my opinion. If you have to, print "snow duals", or Halimar Depths duals, or whatever the heck type of duals it takes to look interesting to Legacy players.
I disagree that FoW would warp Standard. It's card disadvantage and it requires another blue card. (Or it costs 5.) It would allow you to tap out for a finisher and protect it, but the best finishers protect themselv
This new format will be stale, just like the current extended. It will also be dominated by Dredge, because no other archetypes can stand up to the stupid, raw power dredge has. Legacy is a more enjoyable format. With over 60 playable decks it never gets boring. I've been playing Legacy for almost 5 years now, and I haven't once got bored with the format.
The opening of your videos is way to long, 1:22 before anything relevant is said?? That's just terrible, 10% of your content is just the opening credits...
First all I must say that I had a limited matchup during the pre release, and I was playing blue white and splashed black, wall control/ Eldrazi and buddy threw an auro gnarlid at me, and he was a pretty tought to remove once he had a few auras on him, but i got rid of him... then he dropped the bomb Drana, and god i must say she is too powerful, I went to controling the board, to having everything whipped out, and Drana finishing me off with the final blow.
I went back and forth about it, but at this point, I'm all for a new eternal format. I never played Extended, and never wanted to, but I loved Legacy. Loved it to death. But with prices still rising, I can no longer justify paying for the necessary cards in Legacy. I would love to see an alternative, and would probably invest pretty heavily in it if it turned out to be a healthy format.
READ THIS WIZARDS: Stop making blue so awful, I'm new players are too stupid too understand counter magic, but that's why they lose to it! Really, I'm happy you made green much much better, but please, stop making bad counter magic.......and fix the drawing for blue too!
As long as "Overextended" doesn't knock out Legacy, I'm fine. It's really true that Extended sucks right now.. New Format brings new Decks and that's always good^^
I like the idea of a new format but it should be Mirrodin on. There are many reasons for this. 1) It inherits an existing meta-game from Extended 2) easy to tell if the set is legal since it will be all new borders (of course older versions would still be legal but that'll be rarer) and 3) it will remove spells that Wizard would not make today or ever reprint in standard like Counterspell. 4) Less ugly ass cards!
I really really hope that overextended will exist. It seems like an idea that should have been used ages ago, rolling the two fringe events (well everywhere I've seen), Extended and Legacy, into one, solid format. Please make this a reality Wizards.
PTQ Limited every time. I hate spending more then 30 dollars to play all day and not get a ticket getting 2nd. Top 8 qualifies for Pro Tour and 1st place gets Plane Ticket. That's what I want
I think the point with that whole "sellout" business is that you keep saying "Buy, buy, buy!" a lot. If you just leave that part out I think you will be fine.
As a legacy player, i can honestly say that: Legacy is for players who couldn't afford power 9, so therefore if overextended is ever going to be a format, it will be for the players that can't afford dual lands or mutavault/wasteland. Basically - Type 1 = power 9, Legacy = duals/fetches/wasteland/city of traitors - like lands, overextended = tarmogoyf and gush / MM free counters (just a guess)
honestly i would play "overextended" if they release like a FTV set with promos ect, hen i would be really down i would prolly buy 4 of them and start from there, because standard is fun, but having a standard and OXTD deck would be fun, but a tad expensive if they dont release one :,(
I've loved this show a lot, for a very long time, but maybe you could save your ruthless advertising for SCG's tournaments and events for the end of the video, because as much as I, and I'm sure more than 50% of your audience, would love to attend, we can't, so at least stick it at the end so I can skip it.
I'll play "overextended" - sounds more fun than extended. still, I think WOTC needs to get their collective head out of their ass over the Reserved List. Reprints are needed.
+1 for overstended from me, i do however wish that there was a format that would allow me to use my skullclamps...that isnt vintage. i think with all the chalice of the voids, EE, and such, you dont need to ban skullclamp, but perhaps i'm just being biased, lol.
just something out of the blue but do u think they will ever reprint any of the cards from portal 3K. i just found out about these cards only a couple of weeks ago and it seems wrong not to do something with them. like either make a new type out of another area or something like that
It sounds like a great idea to me. It gives newer players a chance to learn and experience some of the older cards/decks and older players a chance to play them. Replacing legacy with a cheaper but equally open format would certainly make the game more enjoyable.
this is one of the best ideas ive ever heard of i love magic and have only been playing for around 2 years and didnt want to touch extended with a 10ft pole but legacy always looked awsome but this has me drooling i mite even be able to get some of my friends to play with a redic format like this
My feedback? Sack the reserve list. Yes, alot of us anti-reserve listers sound like a broken record but that is the right thing to do.
Realistically speaking though, about Overextended, they should include the Urza and Rath cycles while banning the reserve list cards. A better idea? A Neo-Legacy with all reserve list cards banned.
I think over extended is ok but the only problem is that for any new players or players that haven't been playing from the older sets it's going to cost you to get cards for tournments though I would love to see what they could do with it if they made it a real format
Over Extended sounds like an awesome idea, especially since I started playing in the Torment days, fell out of Magic for a few years ( I blame Mirrodin!) and Zendikar brought me back. So I'm most interested by Standard right now, but if they could kill Extended and turn Legacy into OverExtended, I think that would be great.
A slightly more affordable non-rotating format would be great. wizards should do this. if extended turnouts are declining why not? I know many players who's story is similar to mine in that we played back around 5th or 6h edition, stopped for many years and are now or recently getting back into it. I think a format like this would encourage players like me to explore sets that we weren't around for.
I feel overextended enough after running 2 Eldrazi Prereleases! I am all for an affordable format, but I never got into Extended even when it began. Perhaps a restricted list instead of a banned list, so you could still have one skullclamp? This way no dead cards are in the format.
The problem with Legacy is the prices in the future. Dual lands are fine now, and having random cards like Moat or Tabernacle don't hurt the format. the issue is the reserve list will push prices up and up, with dual lands settling at AT LEAST 150 bucks a pop, with Trop and Sea prob 200, and i can see it getting more ridic. To go with this, new players will just be too intimidated to play the format, and if it gets sanctioned for high level events could just turn away players which is BAD
As per your request I would like to say that "overexentended" seems like an awesome idea. Having played magic for a while now, I really like decks that can include such a huge variety of cards as is possible in legacy. But as long as legacy is what it is now, I'm afraid you won't see me at any legacy tournaments. Ever. So yeah, a (mostly) limitless format that I can afford to play in without spending 1k a deck sound great!
they are never going to print snow covered dual lands btw, that would just be silly, basically better than the original dual which are totally busted. (never means that they never will at this level of sanity and respect for the game, if of course teh company degenerated into something totally unlike its current state they might print just about anything)
Overextended is great and all but getting rid of the burden that is the reserved list would be the only option in my opinion. Why make a format that will be there looking like a stupid excuse that keep that damn list up when you can just get rid of it? We don't need another legacy.
Why is the list "sealed"? Because they said "the reserved list will stay forever" and they have strapped themselves to that sentence? If they act that way then I believe that WOTC should just give the game to somebody else. In the long term, legacy and vintage will just be inaccessible because continuously higher price of the needed cards to play those format.
It would be an excellent idea. :) It would be great to play with some old cards again and it would bring more variety to Magic. I personally would like to play with something old, since I've been playing in tournaments for a year and my boyfriend has been at it for years. :)
I love the idea of overextended. Extended was my favorite format until invasion block was cut out of it and then every year I had to reedit my decks since a few more cards were banned.
Screw Overextended, Legacy is a seriously balanced format at the moment with every slice of the pie getting played and tons of viable deck options. Why kill it?
Overextended is idiotic. Wizards is complaining about attendance or legacy events? You are going to kill legacy. This is just another format to inflate Tarmogoyf.
I was just talking today on how freakin expensive it is to keep up with the Standard and Extended formats and how I would walk away from the game with a rather good 1900 rating in constructed formats just because of the cost of $300-400 a set just to keep up with the current meta game to play in 3 major tournaments before another set comes out! 1 HUGE vote for OVEREXTENDED to be real and to keep me playing magic!
Sign me up on the overextended format. I'm trying to get into Legacy but is hinder by some of these cards that cost I mean, rapes my wallet. A college student has to survive some how and yet still needs to play mtg.
While I can't say any format will effect me personally (I'm lucky to be able to play limited once a month) That being said it seems to me that the problem with Overextended is it's not what players REALLY want. What they REALLY want is the Reserve list killed, and for whatever reason (my bets legal) it can't be done. Like the rules change in M10 eventually the sense of this will be seen, but I suspect that it's going to have to get over the simple fact that it's the Legacy Special Olympics
Yeah, Extended is annoying. Stuff rotates and is only playable in legacy, which the hardest actually-used format to get into. This new format is a good idea.
I REALY DONT LIKE THIS OVEREXTENDED, i think legacy is great and i realy like extended so trying to mix them together seems bad. Just from my view i realy dont want extended to die!
Unfortunately, if the new format is popular, Shocklands' prices will more than likely increase dramatically. Many people will look to the new format(I'm going to call it "Unrestricted") to be a cheaper alternative to Legacy. Since the Shocklands are the next best things to duals, they would be the best duals in the format.
i love the idea of a new format. i currently play extended and i always have the idea of my cards rotating out looming over my head. thats why i refuse to buy ravnica shock lands, because i will only have 2 years to be able to use them. I always hated legacy because there are so many turn 1 turn 2 win decks, and thats just annoying. anyway, if anyone from wizards reads this, keep considering the new format
love the new format .... cant wat to see the new deck that it will produse . and as fore thos snow land not so much .... but arefacts maby we r retuing to marden and we have more tool to hand artfact than we did then .
Well variety is a spice of life and this sounds good. Better decks and more cards means more fun, more ideas and more challenges in my opinion would be great if they go with it. Probably everyone else is thinking about this and yes more ways to get pissed off but in a fun way
The new format sounds like a great idea. Right after the Onslaught rotation, the interest in extended at our local store dropped to almost zero and we haven't played a single match 1.x there in months. The players either started to focus more on Standard play or Legacy, but if there would be a format in between, where you still have a very deep card pool combined with the lower cost of T2 this would be very attractive for us.
i honestly don't care what format wotc makes, the simple fact is i will play with the cards i wanna play with, and tell people who build annoying decks to not play them or i will play mono-blue control and killz them
as for the feedback thing, i know maro reads every tweet, email, and etc that is sent to him... i have been meaning to write him a letter and snail male it for Ss and Gs
People that have nothing to criticize have nothing good to say about anything either, relativity demands a negative. If you're wrong about things sometimes so be it, own up to your own sense of evaluation, if you're wrong more often than you'd like to be be humbled by that and realize you're not LSV.
Overextended sounds great, it's the perfect place to start a large format since it's teh waterline where wizards became sane on card design.
i am a new player (14 months) and i dislike extended, although i assumed it was because i dont have a collection of viable cards from those sets. i think overextended may be a better option since cards cycle in and out a lot! When i first started i had no idea standard was such a fast moving format in which every few months things change so much. i think an overextended would keep more people from dropping out from the game, and instead drop from standard for a while
hey overextended became modern :)

Overextended sounds like what all those EDH players have been looking for. Play the cards you have, competitively.

I love this idea for the new format.
Icing on the cake is that it starts with Masques, which will always be my favorite set because it was the first set I ever played with.

As a legacy player, i can honestly say that: Legacy is for players who couldn't afford power 9, so therefore if overextended is ever going to be a format, it will be for the players that can't afford dual lands or mutavault/wasteland. Basically - Type 1 = power 9, Legacy = duals/fetches/wasteland/city of traitors - like lands, overextended = tarmogoyf and gush / MM free counters (just a guess)
meddlingmage23 1 year ago
I won't ever play extended or legacy but I would play overextended.

honestly i would play "overextended" if they release like a FTV set with promos ect, hen i would be really down i would prolly buy 4 of them and start from there, because standard is fun, but having a standard and OXTD deck would be fun, but a tad expensive if they dont release one :,(

I've loved this show a lot, for a very long time, but maybe you could save your ruthless advertising for SCG's tournaments and events for the end of the video, because as much as I, and I'm sure more than 50% of your audience, would love to attend, we can't, so at least stick it at the end so I can skip it.
Powerslave1123 1 year ago
I'll play "overextended" - sounds more fun than extended. still, I think WOTC needs to get their collective head out of their ass over the Reserved List. Reprints are needed.

+1 for overstended from me, i do however wish that there was a format that would allow me to use my skullclamps...that isnt vintage. i think with all the chalice of the voids, EE, and such, you dont need to ban skullclamp, but perhaps i'm just being biased, lol.

just something out of the blue but do u think they will ever reprint any of the cards from portal 3K. i just found out about these cards only a couple of weeks ago and it seems wrong not to do something with them. like either make a new type out of another area or something like that
rosekenny24 1 year ago
It sounds like a great idea to me. It gives newer players a chance to learn and experience some of the older cards/decks and older players a chance to play them. Replacing legacy with a cheaper but equally open format would certainly make the game more enjoyable.

this is one of the best ideas ive ever heard of i love magic and have only been playing for around 2 years and didnt want to touch extended with a 10ft pole but legacy always looked awsome but this has me drooling i mite even be able to get some of my friends to play with a redic format like this

Overextended is such a good idea. I just love the idea of using my older cards in a more inexpensive format. I am all for it.
omgfood 1 year ago
My feedback? Sack the reserve list. Yes, alot of us anti-reserve listers sound like a broken record but that is the right thing to do.
Realistically speaking though, about Overextended, they should include the Urza and Rath cycles while banning the reserve list cards. A better idea? A Neo-Legacy with all reserve list cards banned.
kariido1 1 year ago
I think over extended is ok but the only problem is that for any new players or players that haven't been playing from the older sets it's going to cost you to get cards for tournments though I would love to see what they could do with it if they made it a real format
mageius 1 year ago
Over Extended sounds like an awesome idea, especially since I started playing in the Torment days, fell out of Magic for a few years ( I blame Mirrodin!) and Zendikar brought me back. So I'm most interested by Standard right now, but if they could kill Extended and turn Legacy into OverExtended, I think that would be great.
DarkJedi202 1 year ago

ShadowcasterZero 1 year ago
this is a very good format hope it get to become a real format and kill extended for good
KatsumotoUchija 1 year ago
The problem with Legacy is the prices in the future. Dual lands are fine now, and having random cards like Moat or Tabernacle don't hurt the format. the issue is the reserve list will push prices up and up, with dual lands settling at AT LEAST 150 bucks a pop, with Trop and Sea prob 200, and i can see it getting more ridic. To go with this, new players will just be too intimidated to play the format, and if it gets sanctioned for high level events could just turn away players which is BAD
Beast4Peace 1 year ago
All for 'Overextended'. No cards should be banned until they prove to be a problem in the new format.

As per your request I would like to say that "overexentended" seems like an awesome idea. Having played magic for a while now, I really like decks that can include such a huge variety of cards as is possible in legacy. But as long as legacy is what it is now, I'm afraid you won't see me at any legacy tournaments. Ever. So yeah, a (mostly) limitless format that I can afford to play in without spending 1k a deck sound great!
ufter1 1 year ago
they are never going to print snow covered dual lands btw, that would just be silly, basically better than the original dual which are totally busted.

Morgueson 1 year ago
Why is the list "sealed"? Because they said "the reserved list will stay forever" and they have strapped themselves to that sentence? If they act that way then I believe that WOTC should just give the game to somebody else. In the long term, legacy and vintage will just be inaccessible because continuously higher price of the needed cards to play those format.
Morgueson 1 year ago
Reprint older cards? hell ya! Why should only rich people get to play that format? Cards cost too much as it is.
maudin8 1 year ago
It would be an excellent idea. :) It would be great to play with some old cards again and it would bring more variety to Magic. I personally would like to play with something old, since I've been playing in tournaments for a year and my boyfriend has been at it for years. :)

CAl3vara 1 year ago
Yeah, Extended is annoying. Stuff rotates and is only playable in legacy, which the hardest actually-used format to get into. This new format is a good idea.

Spencerkun123 1 year ago
@Spencerkun123 Err, I meant "Unreserved".

i love the idea of a new format. i currently play extended and i always have the idea of my cards rotating out looming over my head. thats why i refuse to buy ravnica shock lands, because i will only have 2 years to be able to use them. I always hated legacy because there are so many turn 1 turn 2 win decks, and thats just annoying. anyway, if anyone from wizards reads this, keep considering the new format

Well variety is a spice of life and this sounds good. Better decks and more cards means more fun, more ideas and more challenges in my opinion would be great if they go with it. Probably everyone else is thinking about this and yes more ways to get pissed off but in a fun way
themaster4576 1 year ago
The new format sounds like a great idea. Right after the Onslaught rotation, the interest in extended at our local store dropped to almost zero and we haven't played a single match 1.x there in months. The players either started to focus more on Standard play or Legacy, but if there would be a format in between, where you still have a very deep card pool combined with the lower cost of T2 this would be very attractive for us.
eidolon232 1 year ago
i honestly don't care what format wotc makes, the simple fact is i will play with the cards i wanna play with, and tell people who build annoying decks to not play them or i will play mono-blue control and killz them
as for the feedback thing, i know maro reads every tweet, email, and etc that is sent to him... i have been meaning to write him a letter and snail male it for Ss and Gs
