If you want to be a Catholic, obey Catholic teaching. Kennedy refuses to obey Catholic teaching. Therefore, he is denied Communion. It's that simple, folks.
Donohue is way off base here. If JFK and RFK were alive and in politics today, the Catholic Church would be behaving the same way toward them. It is the church that has changed. The church is trying to control the internal politics of different nations to conform to it's dogma. If I were living in MA, this would make me want to donate to Patrick Kennedy's election campaign.
@missyouhoo On issues regarding Fatih and Morals, the Catholic Church is never wrong. It sometimes make errors in management, but it is permanently protected from teaching theological error by express order of Jesus Christ. This fact was understood by Christians from when the Church was instituted in 33AD: "I will give YOU (Peter) the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever YOU bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever YOU loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." - Matthew 16:19
@88Keyz101 That is merely your opinion, and as such it has no value. But what does have intrinsic value is Sacred Scripture/Tradition. Well you might think that makes sense, but the truth be told, your way doesn't work. Let's take Africa. In virtually all countries where they pass out condoms only, they have higher rates of aids. But in Uganda, where they practice abstinence and sex within marriage and/or one partner, they have dramatically decreased their hiv/aids rates. Let's take a closer look at condoms. The tiny holes in condoms (that is the ones that past testing), are 500 times the size of the aids virus.

There's no assuming. It has been working there (Uganda) already. It is the model to what could be in the rest of Africa. Also the rhythm method has not been used for a lond time. Now natural family planning (NFP) is just like the pill (99.9%) effective when used properly. As far as people who don't have sex telling the people who do have sex what to do is not accurate. You are moronic, ignorant, closed minded person who has done nothing but read propaganda against the Catholic Church and taken it as truth. Do your own research, your own reading and come up with your own conclusion, dont just reiterate what anti catholic media outlets tell you. If you had ever read any of the encyclicals, any of the theses, any of the manifests of catholic popes, cardinals and priests, you would see how dead wrong you are.
You are the moron. In California your motherfucking religion gave a ton of money to take away my marraige rights. I don't give a shit what you haters believe, but keep your filthy religion OUT of our constitution.
So its not catholics you hate...its people who support the traditional definition of marriage. Well, you can support the traditional definition of marriage while not being anti gay at all. Obama supports the traditional definition of marriage by the way. You must hate a lot of people. I pity you.
I pity you for being so un-American that you would target your fellow citizen with his or her own constitution. If your church only wants to support "traditional" marriage, I don't have a problem with that. I'm talking about civil marriage under the law as I, like you, am a tax paying citizen. And if we are only going to have traditional marriage, why not ban heterosexual divorce? It's a new testament sin right out of the new testament. So again, go buttfuck your pope.
your knowledge of catholicism is quite limited it appears. While divorce is unencouraged, there are several grounds on which one can divorce his partner: abuse, infidelity, etc etc.
I am not targeting anybody. I support gay rights on nearly every level. I just feel that marriage is a sacred institution that should keep its traditional definition. Is that so hateful?
I support civil unions with equal monetary benefits. Im no hater. Do not confuse me for one.
If I were against the civil rights of blacks, that'd make me a rascist. Your churches don't have to marry anyone they don't want to, but we are talking about CIVIL marriage. I'm disgusted with haters like you. And yes, if you would walk into a voting booth and slam my civil rights you are a hater. If I ever get the change I'll hopefully one day be able to vote away some of your rights so you can see how degrading it feels. Here's to your fucked up religion.
First of all, your knowledge of Catholicism is quite limited at best. While divorce is discouraged, there are several grounds upon which one can obtain one: abuse, infidelity etc.
So right off the bat your logic is flawed. Second of all your the one who is unamerican. Gay marriage was attempted to be put into practise through the COURTS: OUTSIDE THE REACH OF THE PEOPLE! That is undemocratic and unamerican. Every state that has had a referendum on it has voted it down.
To support the traditional definition of marriage doesnt not make you a hater. We support equal rights for all and are against any discrimination against homosexuals. But marriage is not a RIGHT. The concept of rights has opened up by the left to include a vast majority of things that are not rights. We have the right to our lives, and our liberty. We can expand this to education, perhaps health care etc etc. But marriage is not a right.
It is unamerican for you to try and ostracise me for simply having christian values concerning the definition of marriage. Your incenuations that im a hater, that im a bigot, that im unamerican, are false defamations and very unamerican. If you want to fight for your "rights" be my guest: that is American. What is unamerican is to defame those simply for holding a contrary one!
You defame gays!. When in American history have we ever voted on civil rights? NEVER. Civil rights are almost always legislative and supreme court decisions. We didn't VOTE on women's rights or integration or to end slavery. According to your reasoning my being against the civil rights of Catholics doesn't make me anti-Catholic. Thanks for that lesson. I'll remember that if there is ever a constitutional amendment that targets your freedoms. And it won't make me a bigot either!!!
Again you are wrong. Marriage is a right. It is a CIVIL institution. That alone makes it a right. Did YOU not have the RIGHT to marry the person of your choice??? Marraige is a CONTRACT with the state. If a heterosexual couple if atheist they are FREE TO MARRY as it is a CIVIL institution.
why do people take catholics so serious. its just religion. wake up and live by your heart & soul, not some sky wizards doctrines like sheeps. wake up

here's the deal, plain and simple. People who are in positions such as Donahue's, that don't seem to have any pull or that have minimal results get no attention. But those that do get results, get attacked. So every time people go after Donahue, especially those in the media, they show that he is the man who gets results and that people are affraid of. Otherwise, you'd never hear of them. Contemplate on that for a little while.
1) He's fought to get our religious symbols restored in some places where other religions are able to display their symbols but not Christian. 2) He led the boycott against the movie "the golden compass" and related books (which indoctinate kids with atheism) which resulted in the sequels not being made. The writer and one of the actors "Sam Elliott" admits it was Donahue's handi-work. 3) Has led boycotts of disgusting displays disguised as art, which resulted in the removal of such items.
hello practicing: ok fine give me these places, these symbols that he has replaced. give me actual video or press release on "the golden compass" . i will check out if this book does indoctrinates kids to anything. whiles theres over 25,000 sunday school classes where kids are told about a fairy tale supernatural person.
Alot of priests actually do that and alot of priests here in Texas protest the many executions that occur here... yet the media for some reason never shows it.
I've seen discussions but I've never heard of anyone--certainly not a politician--being denied communion because they supported the death penalty. If you can come up with an actual incident I'll believe you but I did a quick google search and only came up with discussions in relation to people being denied communion for being pro-choice. I don't think it's ever happened, and it shows a sort of double standard.
Oh politician.. well no I never heard it for a politician.. only for pro choice groups or peoples within pro choice movements.. sorry to waste your time on that.
I think we have been talking in circles here--my point is that the Catholic church is also against the death penalty and yet they don't deny communion to people or politicians who support it and yet they want to withhold communion to politicians who are pro-choice.
No one should be denied communion for support of the death penalty for hypocritical reasons you stated in your previous post to me. So, things you support are not intrinsically evil.
No, because it's not intrinsically evil. It is spoke out against for the most part, but Catholic teaaching believes in the right of the state to put someone to death, but believe it should be in extreme cases.
So Catholic teaching reserves the right to be hyprocritical. It's okay for the state to take a life in extreme cases but it's not okay for an individual to have control over her body in any case whatsoever.
The 10 commandment says not to kill--it doesn't say not to kill except when you're killing murderes/rapists. The church is just hypocritical here and you're supporting their kid raping ways.
1) The word used in the fifth commandment means murder not kill. If is was as you say, then you would not be able to kill someone in self defense if neccessary. So The Chuch is not hypocritical.
2) Their kid raping ways? The Church has not raped anyone. There were some in the Church that did so. And that is terrible. But The Church has the lowest rate. Sexual abuse is far more likely to be done by family members, babysitters, friends, relatives or neighbours.
I gave you 3 examples of what you wanted. But on this you really messed up. You said i proved your point. I said the 5th commandment says not to murder. It does not mean any kind of killing. Read my whole statement again.
2) continued. And of clergy, Catholic has the least percentage @ 1.5-5%. And of those less than 1/2 of 1 % were pedophilia (sex with a prepubescent child). Most cases were homosexual priests with teen boys. You can find this in the New England Journal of medicine I believe and the Christian Science Monitor newspaper. And as you can tell by their title, they are not Catholic.
and the catholics wonder why they have drooped to only 18% cant get folks to church now go to television & politics I do not agree in church getting involved in state what a mess it will be..oh by the way please remember to give to the march of dimes this holiday season sad what lack of healthcare does. 12% infant mortality rate I just gave please give thanks folks.
Who gives a shit about primitive religious practices, anyway?

I Think so.. They had a big discussion here about it like around 3 or 4 years ago..
RockyBalboa211 2 years ago
I've seen discussions but I've never heard of anyone--certainly not a politician--being denied communion because they supported the death penalty. If you can come up with an actual incident I'll believe you but I did a quick google search and only came up with discussions in relation to people being denied communion for being pro-choice. I don't think it's ever happened, and it shows a sort of double standard.

Oh politician.. well no I never heard it for a politician.. only for pro choice groups or peoples within pro choice movements.. sorry to waste your time on that.
RockyBalboa211 2 years ago
I think we have been talking in circles here--my point is that the Catholic church is also against the death penalty and yet they don't deny communion to people or politicians who support it and yet they want to withhold communion to politicians who are pro-choice.

No one should be denied communion for support of the death penalty for reasons I stated in my previous post to you.

No one should be denied communion for support of the death penalty for hypocritical reasons you stated in your previous post to me. So, things you support are not intrinsically evil.
MaryJesusJoseph 2 years ago
No MaryJesusJoseph,
No, because it's not intrinsically evil. It is spoke out against for the most part, but Catholic teaaching believes in the right of the state to put someone to death, but believe it should be in extreme cases.
practicingcatholic 2 years ago
So Catholic teaching reserves the right to be hyprocritical. It's okay for the state to take a life in extreme cases but it's not okay for an individual to have control over her body in any case whatsoever.

Let's try to understand your reasoning..
Killing a murderer/rapist OR
Killing innocent children.
Wow, hard distinction, huh?
You see! When you don't have the Spirit in you, you cannot understand moral truths.
practicingcatholic 2 years ago
The 10 commandment says not to kill--it doesn't say not to kill except when you're killing murderes/rapists. The church is just hypocritical here and you're supporting their kid raping ways.
MaryJesusJoseph 2 years ago
1) The word used in the fifth commandment means murder not kill. If is was as you say, then you would not be able to kill someone in self defense if neccessary. So The Chuch is not hypocritical.
2) Their kid raping ways? The Church has not raped anyone. There were some in the Church that did so. And that is terrible. But The Church has the lowest rate. Sexual abuse is far more likely to be done by family members, babysitters, friends, relatives or neighbours.

hello practicing: you got me lost here. you proved my point.
the commandment says thou shalt not kill ! i will await your 3 examples before we go on
nonthiestnc 2 years ago
Okay non,
I gave you 3 examples of what you wanted.

Curious also as to why you chose your screen name to be MaryJesusJoseph.
practicingcatholic 2 years ago
Do Catholics have a copyright on those names?
MaryJesusJoseph 2 years ago
No, but Catholics and other Chrisitans use those names reverently. You on the other hand are using it disrespectfully.
practicingcatholic 2 years ago
And I take it so seriously when kid rapers are reverent.
