Rebif is better! ive taken Avonex. without a self injector and omg.. hurt like hell for 2 years. now I take rebif and its auto injection thingy. its not as bad as avonex I'm sure. goes in the fat not the muscle.

I've been on avonex for almost 2 years now, and I'm satisfied with the treatment. the autoinjector thing is nice... I use Avonex PEN now, which is a 'real' autoinjector -- unlike the one in the video, where you have to push the plunger yourself. search for 'avonex pen' to see it!
It looks like you are pushing the need really hard once it's in your skin. I am going to be starting Avonex in the next few weeks and I am terrified of giving myself injections. What does it feel like going in? During the injecting? After? Does it leave a mark? Does it make you feel like you have the flu for a few days? I am terrified of this treatment.
@gomthong Your anxiety about the injections will pass with time... just stick with it. The needle itself doesn't hurt much at all. When you push the medicine in, it will sting, but its not too bad. You may have side effects for up to 12 hours after the injection, but it will reduce after a couple weeks and may go away eventually. Soemtimes I get a bruise from the needle but normally there is no mark. Good luck! you can do it!
OMG I hated that thing so bad used for few years i remember the side effects and the feeling of the cold avonex going into the muscle .... until Jesus healed me
Hey balconyblog, I see you live in Canada, where Avonex now comes in a "PEN" format. With the PEN the needle is just 5/8 inch and you don't have to do any "pushing". It's pretty new, so you should ask your doctor about it.

It's the same DIN as the manual injection, and has the same provincial coverage where I live (Ontario). You should not be paying any more. I'd call the MS Alliance support line and ask about that if I were you.
I always wanted to see how it works. i don't have it, cause I'm a little bit scared about it. does it hurt when the needle is going so fast in? I'm afraid of doing it so fast...that's why i hit a nerve more often. -.-'
@Shadowcat139 the needle doesn't hurt much at all when it goes in... the medicine stings when you push the plunger though. Thats the worst part, but its not too bad!
@jf1gd2 good question! i wish it would push the plunger too, but it doesn't. It just does the jab part, which actually isn't the part that hurts. Pushing the plunger seems to hurt a little more (but not too much)
@monicahaver I got my autoinjector directly from the Avonex Alliance program. They mailed it to me. They also provide me with the 1" needles so I don't have to use the larger 1.25" needles. I needed a doctors note to be eligible for the smaller needles. The injector is called "AutoInjector".
@1980paul2 The wipe is just an alcohol pad. I believe the purpose is to disinfect the skin prior to injecting. I don't use any ice or numbing agents. The needle doesn't bother me too much, and I found the icepack more uncomfortable than just doing the needle without it. Give it a try one time :)

Before I inject it, I take an ibuprophen 600 (for the sidekicks, I don´t wanna have some;-) )
